Chemo Brain

In 2006 they call it Chemo Brain. There are pages upon pages of data on this dysfunction. In 1992 the term was not used, at least not that I heard. It fits, and I believe it to be a real side effect factor to be considered and dealt with. Almost as soon as I started my chemotherapy this was one of the first side effects I noticed. It was like living in a fog.

Cancer Resources

I started chemotherapy the first week of the new year in 1992. On some scales it seems like yesterday, and on others it seems like an eternity ago.The first thing that is probably drastically different for anyone today is the available resources. In 1992 there was no Internet. I was given all the literature from my oncologist on the subject and was left to my own despair to search out any information. The only resource that had anything was the local library, and that in itself was massively outdated.I will warn anyone facing chemo or anything major to be careful on how and what they research. It is very easy to get off track and let the data take you further down than you might be without any knowledge.

The start of my Chemotherapy Blog

Whenever I tell someone I am a Cancer survivor the conversation almost always turns to Chemo Therapy and how it affected me.I wish Blogs had been around when I was in the middle of my Chemo so I could have kept a log of the daily events.

Fathers Day Fun

Flying V UkuleleI hope all the Fathers out there had as much fun as I did on Fathers Day.

My 2 teenagers pitched in a bought me a Mahalo White Flying V Ukulele. I had been looking at the Ukulele as a potential new instrument since seeing the Jake Shimabukuro video of him playing While My Guitar Gently Weeps. If you have not seen it, check it out.

The kids gave me the Uke on Saturday so I could have fun all weekend, and that is exactly what I did.

What really impressed me was how much stuff is on the web for the Ukulele, you can get all the chord diagrams and tabs just like for the guitar, but, there are a lot of interactive lesson sites that play the song and show the chord diagram as the song plays. I wll post some of these links later.

Thanks girls !!

Traffic Lights need to change

Traffic Lights really need a change. Based on this article, Traffic Light History - Invention of the Traffic Light , traffic lights have been basically the same since the first one was installed back in 1920. Now it’s time for a change.

Take out the Yellow, really. It would take a lot of work, but it would be worth it.

Yellow has come to represent “hurry before the light changes”, or “go ahead and get in the middle of the intersection before it turns red”, and both of these are poor choices.

There is a traffic light on the way home that causes so many problems with that Yellow, it’s enough to make ya wanna just get out and scream.

Yes I know, it is probably more a result of poor traffic engineering, but, if there was no yellow, people would not have time to think about it, just do it. Go, or Stop, real simple, but please do not get out in the middle and keep the cross traffic from being able to move when their light turns green.

Sudoku

Not too long ago the wife and kids took a little road trip. Upon their return they were jabbering about Sudoku. I inquired about this topic and was shown a little book, like a crossword puzzle book, of Sudoku puzzles. I glanced at it, and it appeared simple and probably useless.

Fast Foward a few days when I had some time on my hands with nothing much to do. I picked up the Sudoku book left on the table and that was all it took. And a new addiction was born.

I always hated crossword puzzles and could never understand how my mom and dad could sit and work those darn things for hours on in. Now I know.

Just today I read about Wayne & Christi Crosby, they had the same basic situation, although Wayne being an obviously gifted programmer took it to the next level. I have added his widget to my Google home page and now have a puzzle waiting for me at all times. Thanks Wayne. You can check his website out at Count to Nine

Before I could get this post completed and posted I noticed the new Sponsor Feature on his puzzles. Now that is using good ol’ creative marketing!

Dancing Flashbacks

All I needed was more reminders of my age!

Judson Laipply does an excellent job of taking us through The Evolution of Dance, and in the process gives me flashbacks for every song and dance that is represented in his routine.

An Illegal Alien Allegory

I received this in an email, and there is no obvious credit given to the original author. It is worth posting. Excellent analogy of the Illegal Alien debate.

“Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration. Certain people are angry that the U.S. Might protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, once here, to stay indefinitely. Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these protests.

Let’s say I break into your house. Let’s say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave. But I say, “I’ve made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors; I’ve done all the things you don’t like to do. I’m hard-working and honest (except for when I broke into your house).”

According to the protesters, not only must you let me stay, you must add me to your family’s insurance plan and provide other benefits to me and to my family (my husband will do your yard work because he too is hardworking and honest, except for that breaking in part).

If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my right to be there. It’s only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I’m just trying to better myself. I’m hardworking and honest .. Um, except for the … Well, you know.

And what a deal it is for me!! I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of selfishness, prejudice and being anti-housebreaker.

Did I miss anything? Does this sound reasonable to you?”

Duck swallows Alien?

Finally, proof, 100% full proof, aliens do exist. And they are really small, not so smart and obviously very slow. How else could you explain the fact that a duck, yes, a duck swallowed an alien? Or was this a super duck ? We may never know, but, I will bet the xray sells for a lot of money on eBay!

“This undated photo provided by the International Bird Rescue Research Center, shows an X-ray taken Sunday, May 21, 2006, of an injured duck with a broken wing. The International Bird Rescue Research Center in Cordelia. Calif.,” Source : Yahoo! News Photo:
