MTV is 25 years old

Age is something that just keeps jumping up and biting me.

I remember the first day that MTV was on the air. Holy smoke. And that was 25 years ago !

It certainly isn’t the same as it was back then. MTV revolutionized music videos back then, and now they are struggling to survive. Just like everything else, the kids now have instant access to all their tunes and videos and do not have to sit around waiting for the premiere on MTV.

I guess I just add this to my repertoire.

….when I was a kid, we had to schedule our TV time to catch the new release of music videos…..

What I heard today about flying

Getting on an airplane…
Is the safest way to fly

Wow, I had never thought about it like that, lol. I know that is not what the person meant to say, but, it is a provocative thought just the same.

Ready for some Football

It’s that time again. NFL Training Camps are up and running, draft picks are holding out. Old timers are trying to find that new team to help ignite their career one more time. The Top 10 from Draft day are certainly under the microscope, that is, if they showed up to Training Camp yet.

1. Houston - Mario Williams, DE North Carolina State
2. New Orleans - Reggie Bush, RB USC
3. Tennessee - Vince Young, QB Texas
4. N.Y. Jets - D’Brickashaw Ferguson, OT Virginia
5. Green Bay - A.J. Hawk, LB Ohio State
6. San Francisco - Vernon Davis, TE Maryland
7. Oakland - Michael Huff, DB Texas
8. Buffalo - Donte Whitner, S Ohio State
9. Detroit - Ernie Sims, LB Florida State
10. Arizona - Matt Leinart, QB USC

And of course my personal favorite this year is going to see how Terrell Owens does in Dallas. Being an old Cowboys fan this really hurts. It is going to be very hard to cheer for him no matter how good he does.

Signs You Have Grown Up

I received an email from my sister, uh, older sister with a list of things that make you realize you have grown up, or at least old.

2 things on this list really stood out to me.

Now here is the real dilemma, I have heard songs I recognize playing in the background of the Weather Channel while I was watching it, or maybe a I should say listening to it. My computer desk faces away from the TV, so when I am on the computer I can not watch the TV, however, I do listen to it a lot. I know more actors and television personalities by their voices more than I do their faces.

If I ever get to switch to HDTV, I will have to rearrange my whole family room so I can see what is going on.

Clear the Chemo Taste

I am sure each patient and each Chemotherapy is different, but I had a terrible time with how it affected my taste buds. Everything had a metallic taste to it. Things that I loved I could not tolerate with this added flavor.Finding something to drink became an increasingly difficult task. I loved sodas but could not drink them during chemo. I tried Gatorade (which was ok) but I was looking for something that actually tasted good and was refreshing. My poor wife was trying desperately to find the magic drink, she would bring home all kinds of things to try. And then by chance we found it.

Minute Maid Fruit Punch !!

Even to this day when I need something different and refreshing I will pick up a carton. It was the only drink I found that helped during my chemo. And I would hope the same result for you. Give it a try.

Daddy Wants a Squeezebox !

I know, you probably remember it like this…

Mama’s got a squeeze box
She wears on her chest
And when Daddy comes home
He never gets no rest
credit : The Who - 1976

Well, this is the new version

Daddy wants a squeeze box
He can listen anywhere
While sitting on the deck
Or lounging in his chair

This has to be the coolest big boy toy I have seen lately. The Squeezebox is an Internet appliance from Slim Devices that allows you to listen to streaming Internet radio or to your personal music collection from your computer. And if you really want, you can get a Terabyte, yeap, a Terabyte of space to put all those tunes on. And they partnered with Pandora, my personal favorite Internet listening system. Now how cool is that?

Is it World War III ?

As long as I can remember I have wondered what World War III would be like. Not if, but, when.

As I watch the news and see the Media publishing private comments by world leaders that was picked up by a microphone, I can not fathom how anyone can see that as right. No wonder we can’t win a battle anymore, we tell our enemies everything. And if that was not enough we have our own people trashing our leaders and making us look like a small fragmented society instead of a world leader.

I admit my ignorance on the critical issues, I am not 100% clear on what is going on in Lebanon, Israel, Iran or anywhere else in the Middle East. But that is what our leaders are for. And whether you agree with your country’s leaders, they are your leaders and need your support.

I try to teach my children these lessons and it is getting very hard in today’s society. We tell them to respect their parents and obey the laws, and yet we have a world full of 24/7 media trashing our own country and being disrespectful.

Nascar Nap

If you ask me, I will tell you I watch Nascar every week. If you ask my wife, she will tell you I take a Nap every week when Nascar is on. Just because I watch some of the race with my eyes closed does not mean I do not know what is going on, and having a DVR doesn’t hurt either.

I will say I was wide awake to see Jeff Gordon bump Matt Kenseth right off the track at the USG Sheetrock 400 with a few laps to go. Oh well, I guess Nascar officials where watching with their eyes closed too!

3 Estrogen - 1 Testosterone = Insanity

I am married with 2 teenage daughters. We have 2 female dogs and 2 female cats.

Is it any wonder I am a geek?

Oh yeah, there is one male Gerbil left, although we have not spent much time together.

Things that I can’t grasp.

Things that help me survive.

So, it is a fact, 3 Estrogen - 1 Testosterone = Insanity
