91st Indianapolis 500

This weekend is the running of the 91st Indianapolis 500.

For the first time in the history of the race there are 3 female drivers, Danica Patrick, Sarah Fisher, and Milka Duno. Maybe this will help breath some life back into this race and raise some more interest for the IndyCar Series.

This is also the first year that the cars will be running on 100% ethanol!

Respect, it’s a thing of the past

Respect is something that has been lost on people and it is getting to the point where respect will soon be extinct, at least in Amercia.

There is a new cartoon television show about our current President. Like him or not, this is not good. It is one thing to have free speech, it is entirely different to be disrespectful of your leaders and country in a manner that makes the world look at us as a democracy run amuck.

And we wonder why the rest of the world no longer respects us, we do not respect ourselves.

Dale Jr. Moving On

It was good to see Dale Earnhardt, Jr. make a decision about his future. I was not the biggest Dale Earnhardt fan, at least not at first. But, I would love to see Junior join Richard Childress and drive the black # 3 Chevrolet that his dad made so famous.

Junior is different than most. He has incredible skill, a clear head, great vision and an outstanding attitude. If you watch and listen to him race, it is hard not to at least respect him as one of the best in Nascar today.

My picks for the team Dale Jr. will join, in order…

  1. Childress Racing
  2. Joe Gibbs Racing
  3. Ginn Racing
  4. Hendrick Motorsports

Thanks WJTV

WJTV in Jackson, held a Central Mississippi Blogger Meet-Up on Saturday May 5th. The turn out was very, very disappointing. I was shocked that only 2 bloggers showed up.

Jackson is definitely an apathetic area, but I really thought the bloggers would cross that boundary. How in the world can a blogger be apathetic?

The staff of WJTV was very open and gracious to host this event and did not let the low attendance affect them, and we really appreciate that.

Terry Heaton was a catalyst for this event and his knowledge of both the mainstream media and the blogosphere is incredible. He is one of the few people I have met that truly understands both sides and the changes that are taking place in the media world. His blog is worth a subscription and a trip through his archives can be very educational.

Thanks WJTV !

eBooks

You would think that by being in computers for 20 years I would be up to date on all the technology and stuff that is available today on the Internet. Every time I turn around I feel like I missed something else. Just recently I have been delving into eBooks.

The topic of eBooks means a lot of different things to different people. Most searches for eBooks brings you to Internet Marketing and how to make a buck online. But, there is an endless stream of good eBooks out there on any topic you can imagine.

Not sure exactly where this research is taking me, but I am enjoying the ride so far.

Central Mississippi Blogger Meet Up

On Saturday May 5th, WJTV-TV in Jackson, Mississippi will host the first Central Mississippi Blogger Meet Up.

WJTV-TV in Jackson has graciously agreed to serve as host for a blogger meet-up at 11 o’clock a.m. on Saturday, May 5th. Refreshments will be served and everyone who attends will get the hottest in channel 12 swag, including a T-shirt and a cool mousepad (if the printer can get them there in time).

This is a social event, so come prepared to meet and make new friends. If you know of a local blogger who’s not on the list here, please let me know or feel free to invite them, too. We’d like to meet everybody.

My name is Terry Heaton, and I’ve been blogging since 2002. I’ve participated in blogger meet-ups both globally and at the local level in several communities, including San Francisco, Nashville, Raleigh and Dallas. I helped WKRN-TV in Nashville build “Nashville is Talking,” a beloved aggregator site of the local blogosphere there. That station also runs an aggregator of political blogs in the state of Tennessee called “Volunteer Voters.”

WJTV-TV is interested in getting to know bloggers in the area, and we thought this would be a good way to get started. Again, this is a social event; there’s no agenda for the station other than helping facilitate this meet-up. We recognize the significance of the personal media revolution, and we want to listen to what you’re saying. We think this is a good way to start.

News Channel 12 anchors Byron Brown and Linda Allen will be there, along with Chief Meteorologist Tony Mastro. So come by, say hello, and get your picture taken at the anchor desk.

Please use the RSVP function of this Evite to let us know if you’re coming. We want to make sure we have enough food for everybody.

New TV Show - Political Idol

Now here we go, let’s just do the next election with a new TV Show called Political Idol. All 100 candidates that have announced plans to run can try out. We keep Simon Cowell for fun and add 4 more judges, a conservative, a liberal, and 2 more random judges.

Each week candidates can perform anything they want, a poem, a dance, a song, or anything else they want.

Then we call in our votes and narrow it down. With a little over 500 days left before the next election, it’s the perfect time.
