Dallas Cowboys vs Green Bay Packers

I was a little ticked off tonight when I realized the my beloved Dallas Cowboys game against the Green Bay Packers, which is probably one of the best games this year, is only being telecast on the NFL Network. Holy Moly. What a bunch of crap. Now with this said, I was not so upset when I found out I could call Comcast and have the NFL Network and NFL HD Network added for only $5 a month.

But I know this is not available to a lot of viewers out there. It seems that we are now at the mercy of the cable companies and leagues like the NFL to watch their games. If this is the way it is going to be, I would much prefer that they just go ahead and break it all the way down where I pay for the just the channels I want.

Of course it makes all the sense in the world for cable to break their systems down into ala carte…but they never will. They know they’ll lose too much money when they drop the channels people don’t want.

And of course, forcing the viewer to only watch “Their” channel, like the NFL channel is doing, is only going to make all but the most loyal viewers pony up the money.

Me, I’m not going to spend money every month just to maybe watch one game all season. I’d rather see the highlights on line when I want to…oh wait, the NFL won’t let other websites use their video. Scratch that idea.

I wrote about this too. I ended up watching last Thursday’s game on my laptop through nfl.com. Somehow watching this way is not as exciting or fun though. NFL.com has a link to send emails to your government officials to complain about cable blocking the NFL network. If I understand correctly, NFL network wants their channel to be viewed without charge, which tells me they aren’t getting a cut from the cable companies. lol
