Last year I posted that I was going to start playing the guitar. I never thought I would play so much, have so much fun, and get paid for it.

It was an awesome year for me and I want to thank my brother Mike Withrow. We started playing as a duo under the name Withrow Cooley in June and had a blast all year long. Looking forward to a full year in 2012 of playing and having fun!

For probably the 5th time in the last 30 years I have decided to start playing the guitar again. Over the years I have played on and off without much passion. I even had the chance to play with some really good musicians when I was in Madison, Mississippi but I did not take advantage of that time.

Not sure what the change is. I now have a very large room that doubles as my office and TV room. The guitars are all located in this room and I find myself picking up one of them each day and playing at least a little.

My learning curve is strange. Seems things I tried to learn years ago now fall into focus and I feel like I am making some leaps in playing ability.

Of course it helps to have several members of my family also playing a lot and inspiring me. Thanks everyone!

I am married with 2 teenage daughters. We have 2 female dogs and 2 female cats.

Is it any wonder I am a geek?

Oh yeah, there is one male Gerbil left, although we have not spent much time together.

Things that I can’t grasp.

  • Didn’t we just buy a 24 roll pack of toilet paper.
  • Why do they have to straighten their hair?
  • How much does makeup cost?
  • That bug is smaller than your fingernail, step on it!
  • How many pair of shoes is in that closet?
  • Start getting ready for a 7pm movie at 2pm.

Things that help me survive.

  • Guitar
  • Ukulele
  • Internet
  • Soduko
  • Poker

So, it is a fact, 3 Estrogen – 1 Testosterone = Insanity

Flying V UkuleleI hope all the Fathers out there had as much fun as I did on Fathers Day.

My 2 teenagers pitched in a bought me a Mahalo White Flying V Ukulele. I had been looking at the Ukulele as a potential new instrument since seeing the Jake Shimabukuro video of him playing While My Guitar Gently Weeps. If you have not seen it, check it out.

The kids gave me the Uke on Saturday so I could have fun all weekend, and that is exactly what I did.

What really impressed me was how much stuff is on the web for the Ukulele, you can get all the chord diagrams and tabs just like for the guitar, but, there are a lot of interactive lesson sites that play the song and show the chord diagram as the song plays. I wll post some of these links later.

All of my life I have had some involvement with music. As the youngest child I was taught to play the guitar by my brother so I could “sit in” with him and my sister. My sister is one of the best piano players I know. She has a God given talent, it justs flows from her fingers as naturally as anything I have ever seen.

For several years in the mid 80′s my brother and I were both working in the music industry. Him at WEA and myself working for a national music store retail chain. We had some interaction and enjoyed any time we got together.

Now we have finally embarked on a project together. We both still love music, and we are both involved in computers and the internet. So the obvious choice was to work on a website together.
