Now here’s news. When I heard about this it made me lose sleep. Was it really true, oh the horror. Did he really use that gesture on a reporter? Could you imagine anyone getting so upset with a member of the media that they would sink so low? Oh wait, this just in, it was [...]

Malina Lobel-karimi After today's 2-1 decision regarding gay marriage, the opponents I doubt will go to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals (notoriously liberal...Newt wants to do away with it) but if they choose to pursue this, it will be straight (no pun intended) to the Supreme Court. Can us 'Godless' people collectively ask for Judges Thomas, Scalia or Roberts to have a minor...mishap? I never wish bad on anybody (cosmic justice would bite ME in the ass), but of course if G-d sees it differently, who am I to argue with her?

Kevin Chen For the law school trained audience: is there a legitimate reason to cite Heller in your dissent Prop 8. dissent, or are you just writing a letter to Justice Scalia at that point?

D SKip Godsey I'm so happy that the 9th circuit ruled for equality and justice for all. Civil rights should never be put before the people for popular vote. This case is headed to the Supreme Court where I'm certain that Thomas, Alito, Scalia, and Roberts are contemplating how they are going to vote no on equality for the LGBT community. I can predict a few of their arguments. Let's hope that Sotomayor, Ginsburg, Kennedy, Kagan, and Breyer form and hold the majority opinion. I suspect Kennedy will be the swing vote however my crystal ball has been wrong before. :)

Justin Burrows So Prop. 8 is going to the Supreme Court. I think they have the votes to uphold the lower court decision to overturn the proposition. Chief Justice Roberts: Against Justice Scalia: Against Justice Thomas: Against Justice Alito: Against Justice Kennedy: Swing vote, but wrote opinion overturning Bower v. Hardwick. Justice Breyer: Uphold Justice Sotomayor: Uphold Justice Ginsberg: Uphold Justice Kagan: Uphold Does that look right?

John Brady Prop 8 overturned, as expected. Next stop, U.S. Supreme Court. Come on Justice Scalia you prickly, grouchy bastard...freaking retire already!

Jessica Lee Delaney (Not quite in relation to the Marriage ban post, but also NYT. I'm on a 'news' binge) “The bill of rights of the former evil empire, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, was much better than ours,” he said, adding: “We guarantee freedom of speech and of the press. Big deal. They guaranteed freedom of speech, of the press, of street demonstrations and protests, and anyone who is caught trying to suppress criticism of the government will be called to account. Whoa, that is wonderful stuff!” “Of course,” Justice Scalia continued, “it’s just words on paper, what our framers would have called a ‘parchment guarantee.’ ” -Justice Antonin Scalia in October

John Sterling In a recent NYT article, various legal scholars opine that the U.S. Constitution has lost its appeal, in the U.S. and around the world. The reason: people have discovered that they have (our should have) more (in some cases many more) "rights" than articulated in our founding documents. In other words, citizens of the world have a sense of "entitlement" that our founders foresaw, and feared. Justice Scalia notes (and I agree) that the constitution is more than just words on paper. The values of the people form the basis of law and legitimate government. The world is terrible shape, corresponding with this shift in values. correlation, or causation?
