Assimilation ?

We are losing ground fast, we have so little respect for this great nation that we now have people who support anyone rewriting the National Anthem. And some of our leaders, conservative and liberal alike have lost perspective on the issues. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is a great example of someone who should pay closer attention to the details of the country she is SERVING ! Instead she just spits out the same tripe responses we have come to expect out of politicians.
“From my point of view, people expressing themselves as wanting to be Americans is a good thing,” [...]

British monarch' s republican rep in Australia

According to a BBC report, Quentin Bryce, the new Governor General of Australia, is a republican just like PM Kevin Rudd. Like the United States, India and Nepal, Australia was a colony of the British Empire. Advance Australia Fair, a very inclusive song with no more references to any monarch and deity, was officially declared the national anthem of Australia on 19 April 1984, replacing God Save the Queen for good.Old Nepal' s royal palace re-opens as museum

Seasons in the Sun..

by Terry Jacks. My wife has plans to play this monstrosity at my funeral on the grounds that given a choice death and that song, death seems the attractive option. More realistic is that like for many sad football fans they will be the anthem (in my case you'll never walk alone).

Word is that Alaska governor, Republican vice presidential nominee and airborne wolf hunting supporter Sarah Palin gave one of her children the middle name "Van" so that his name would rhyme with Van Halen. After all, one of its best-selling albums, 1984, did come out the same year she competed in the Miss Alaska pageant. John McCain (who may or may not have been aware of her predilection for the guitar legend) played the band's pop anthem "Right Now" after announcing Palin as his running ma

WE MAY HAVE ALREADY...

Loved everything and everyone worth hatingAnd hated everyone and everything worth lovingRecognized everybody we’re ever going to knowWith a sideways glance in a dime store trench coatMemorized all the arrogant words to our country’s anthemForgetting how to say “thank you” and “you’re welcome”Neglected to learn the golden lessonsShared by the old whore’s toothless humFound new enemies easier to makeThan keeping old friends along the wayBecome invisible under our own skins(Within a cubicle is no p

Same Ol' Song

The Boston Globe profiles the bloggers who helped to inflict Gov. Patrick upon us. Four years ago, two eminent local singers, tenor Charles Blandy and baritone David Kravitz, organized "National Anthem," a concert to benefit John Kerry's presidential campaign. "I've always shown up on Election Day, but I've never been terribly involved in politics," Kravitz said at the time. "This time I've been just frantic to do something." Kerry lost, of course, but the concert became the catalyst for a ne
