A hole in Picasso’s Dream

In a $139 million dollar mistake, Steve Wynn put his elbow through the center of Picasso’s “Dream” painting.
Wynn had been set to sell the painting and was showing it to some people when he accidentally hit it with his elbow and put a small hole in the center. Obviously the sale was cancelled and Wynn was quoted as saying…..
“Smack in the middle … was a black hole the size of a silver dollar. ‘Oh s—,’ he said. ‘Look what I’ve done. Thank goodness it was me.’”
Wynn is best known for developing The Mirage and Bellagio resorts in Las Vegas.

It’s a New Wave of Hairball Art!

Pocket lint, dryer lint, hairballs all wonderful for making art wouldn’t you say? It’s cost effective, environmentally friendly and can look very beautiful if it’s constructed nicely. Take for instance my cat’s hairballs. All the work and effort he puts into those things? He’s a true master at his art. I bet a few more years and he’ll be making things like these and I can finally cash in on him. It’s obvious that this crafter’s cat crafter has put a lot of time and energy into this. It’

Inverted Commas: May Sarton

"The woman who needs to create works of art is born with a kind of psychic tension in her which drives her unmercifully to find a way to balance, to make herself whole. Every human being has this need: in the artist it is mandatory. Unable to fulfill it, he goes mad. But when the artist is a woman she fulfills it at the expense of herself as a woman." — May Sarton

Second quarter: Syracuse 10, Notre Dame 3

Second quarter: Syracuse 10, Notre Dame 3 6:48 SU 10, ND 3 — It certainly wasn’t easy, but Syracuse found its way into the end zone. Curtis Brinkley did the honors, scoring a one-yard touchdown by jumping over the pile. His signature move. Syracuse converted two third downs on that drive. Cam Dantley found Donte Davis for 23 yards on one and hooked up with Nick Provo for 17 yards on the other. Seems hard to believe, but the Orange actually has the lead. This huge crowd is pretty stunned, n

All that is solid melts into lair

(Never apologise for weak puns when writing about Bond.) It was very annoying to notice the Ken Adam discussion with Christopher Frayling at the V&A too late to attend, but it sounds like it was good. In Who Stole My Volcano? Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Dematerialisation of Supervillain Architecture, Matt Jones noted that Frayling (his book on Adam is very good) commented in passing that "the modern Bond villain (and he might have added, villains in pop culture in gene

KUNT AND THE GANG – Men With Beards (What Are They Hiding?) (CD, Disco Minge)

If you have ever laughed at a Derek And Clive record/routine you will have acknowledged just how funny and satisfying swearing and being crass can be.  In times of such hellacious judgement and subtle political correctness squashing almost every form of art containing an element of edgy humour or anything that challenges the status quo, you just need to blow off steam and go all out to offend with view to weeding out. When Bob Weston pointed out at ATP that the audience resembled an “indie roc

Barack Obama's First Day in the Oval Office with Friends

I mentioned earlier my computer art class assignment to take four different downloaded photos and make your "fantasy" picture by combining them. Well, I got a little carried away and added a few more pictures than I had to. So here's my fantasy - Obama's first day in office with a number of people who helped pave the way. There are many, many I've left out, but here are a few key ones. (Double click to enlarge the image.) Our current assignment is to do a 30 second video. At last we're using

Christmas Cookie Recipes Picture

Nowadays there is a great variety of sources with detailed instructions on cooking delicious Christmas cookies. Among them there are consulting cookbooks. However novice bakers may find all these books to be not so easy. As the matter of fact the majority of consulting books are written for professional cookers. During forthcoming Christmas season one can visit numerous stores offering cookbooks. There is a common knowledge that they all are extremely popular. They form the common Christmas

3 Blasts hit Punjab Institute of Language in Lahore

LAHORE: 3 persons, including a child, were injured when a series of 3 blasts occurred with intervals at the building of Punjab Institute of Language (PIL) near Gaddafi Stadium Saturday night. According to reports, all three blasts were of low intensity while other sources say the blasts could have been triggered by time device. IG Punjab Shaukat Javed has said it is too early to tell who can be involved in these blasts. The first two blasts happened inside the building which shattered the win

Live Review: Of Montreal at the Grand Ballroom, San Francisco

Live Review: Of Montreal at the Grand Ballroom, San Francisco Attention all those who saw Of Montreal last night: Next time your parents tell you how they saw David Bowie, or your sister tells you about seeing the Flaming Lips, or your friend’s dad keeps talking about Genesis or your dumb uncle won’t stop going on and on about Gwar or Mr. Bungle, you now have your response. “You know what?” you can say. “Fuck yourself, because I saw Of Montreal.” There’s no need to explain it. No need to

Suttle Launch Painting

The last few days I have done everything except what I am supposed to... again. Been making a habit of that lately. I painted this as one of two COCAP (Coast Guard Fine Art Program) submissions in January 2009. It is an Auxiliary vessel maintaining a perimeter during a shuttle launch. Recreational boaters are not permitted to sit and watch directly under the shuttle's path for safety reasons, so the Coast Guard maintains the perimeter and often this task is delegated to Auxiliary vessels. ...

Fallout 3 Review (PC) War Never Changes, Developers Do

Fallout 3 Review (PC) War Never Changes, Developers Do November 22nd, 2008 by Matt Schuler under Entertainment Maybe you’ve heard of the Fallout series.  It started more than 11 years ago.  Fallout and it’s critically acclaimed sequel, Fallout 2 were originally made by Black Isle Studios. Both games are among my favoites, so could Fallout 3 succeed in the hands of a new development studio?  The game’s made by Bethesda who most recently released a pretty successful game in Oblivion. So fa

Google Docs Spreadsheet Art: Winter

It’s time to just admit it: Google is better than you. Better at searching the web, better at advertising, better at email, better atcreating festive art by methodically changing the color of every square on a spreadsheet. Yup, someone at Google has taken the time to turn an ordinary spreadsheet into a work of wintry art. And then make a video of it (below). And then share the template with all Google Docs users to create their own snowcapped doodlings. Well, two can play that game. Present

Amazing Skyscraper in Dubai

A friend of mine went to Dubai. She told me she saw a silver Mercedes Benz made of silver… the real stuff. She saw giant chandeliers made of Swardovski crystal. The moral…that area has way too much money, our money, and they can’t figure out how to use it all. Anybody angry yet? Here’s another plan to use more money…. The Anara Tower - 2000 feet tall, 700 meters. It is designed by UK based Atkins Designs Studio. The visually stunning skyscraper will become he new global HQ for developer
