Assimilation ?

We are losing ground fast, we have so little respect for this great nation that we now have people who support anyone rewriting the National Anthem. And some of our leaders, conservative and liberal alike have lost perspective on the issues. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is a great example of someone who should pay closer attention to the details of the country she is SERVING ! Instead she just spits out the same tripe responses we have come to expect out of politicians.
“From my point of view, people expressing themselves as wanting to be Americans is a good thing,” [...]

Aims and Methods of Europe’s Muslim Brotherhood

af Lorenzo Vidino Published on Wednesday, November 01, 2006 In 1990 Yusuf al-Qaradawi, an influential Sunni scholar and the unofficial theological leader of the international Muslim Brotherhood (al Ikhwan al Muslimoun), published a book called Priorities of the Islamic Movement in the Coming Phase. [1] This 186-page treatise can be considered the most recent manifesto of the Islamist revivalist movement. As Qaradawi explains in the introduction, the “Islamic Movement” is meant to be the “o

For Those Of You About to Rock Cruise, We Salute You

(This story originally appeared, in a slightly different form, in Radar Magazine) Getting naked with hundreds of people you've never met is something that sounds like a good idea in theory. But as it turns out, it's just kinda awkward and weird. Especially when it's 10am and you haven't had a lick of alcohol and you're on the deck of a cruise ship somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean. The nudity itself isn't the real problem. It's the lead up. When you know that you're about to drop your bathrobe

What About the Culture?

These three young people are the children of the Christian pastor in the village. Christianity has not made them any less Ye'kwana. To gain access into the tribal area, each mission must fulfill many requirements. The first of which is to be INVITED to live there by the tribe and the village. To think that anyone could just walk into a village and be allowed to live there by the Indians is very naive. If you are not asked by them, they will remove you. Themselves. Indians are not helpless chil

Backbiting and Slander or Fitnah

Backbiting & Slander or Fitnah An Islamic perspective A commentary on one of the most destructive of major sins Prophet Muhammad  said :  “Do you know what backbiting is?” They said, “God and His Messenger know best.” He then said, “It is to say something about your brother that he would dislike.“ Someone asked him,  “But what if what I say is true?” The Messenger of God  said,  “If what you say about him is true, you are backbiting him, but if it is not true then you have slandered him.”

Salt Lake City Tribune undertakes large investigation into refugee resettlement program

Posted by acorcoran on October 11, 2008 Wow!  This is impressive!   The Salt Lake City Tribune has apparently undertaken a major effort to explore the Refugee Resettlement Program in Utah.   If every newspaper in every city experiencing refugee overload did the same it would go a long way to keep tensions from building around a federal program that is in desperate need of reform.   The puff-piece articles normally written about refugees—you know, ‘African refugee sees first snow’ garbage—serve

What Can Sunday School Do to Help Youth and Young Adults to Stick?

What Can Sunday School Do to Help Youth and Young Adults to Stick? Saturday 11th October, 2008 I am reading the book, The Essential Church, by Thom and Sam Rainer. Now, I have only just begun the book (about 40 pages), but it has already reinforced a concern that I have had for more than ten years: the need for the church to win our children, youth, and young adults to Christ, to keep them connected to the church, and to mobilize them into the harvest. In my experience, the church as a whole is

Strategic Plan - Page Twelve

Since this blog is primarily intended for church planters, I thought it might be helpful to share the Strategic Plan I've put together for the church I'll be planting in Vegas next year. It may help someone to conceptualize what a Strategic Plan is like, or some of it may spur some ideas for you... Launch Phases Although at this point all of the dates are not set in stone, our current plan is: Initial Assimilation: From June through August of 2009, our staff and launch team families will be m

Honesty from the Left on Hispanic Immigration

Honesty from the Left on Hispanic Immigration Posted in Other News and Op-Ed, Our Neighborhoods, Research on October 11th, 2008 by Brad Heather Mac Donald City Journal John McCain and Barack Obama have largely avoided discussing immigration during the presidential campaign. But when it comes to the legal side of the issue, they both seem to support the status quo: an official policy centered around low-skilled, predominately Hispanic immigrants. A forthcoming book shows just how misguided tha

Teaching Hearing Impaired Children at the Nonverbal Level

Teaching Hearing Impaired Children at the Nonverbal Level Teaching language to nonverbal, hearing-impaired children is in fact, a very controversial matter. The controversy stems from the idea that either of two goals is being targeted. One of which states that after language is learned, the child will be able to communicate orally; while the other states that the child will be able to communicate, not verbally, but manually. Issues With This ApproachAlthough you may think that the best end

Diego Update

I apologize in advance to those of you non-animal lovers out there. With a new puppy (especially one who came from such terrible beginnings) there will be lots of pictures. And with lots of pictures, there comes lots of fawning and 'awwww'ing'. And I'm sorry but, I just have to post some of these photos that my step-mom sent me as pictorial updates on Diego's assimilation into our house hold and general well-being. That sentence was probably all fudged up, but I'm jet lagged so please stop judgi

Assimilation of New Immigrants

Should a country attempt to culturally assimilate arriving immigrants? Why or why not?

The Forgotten Issue: Illegal Immigration and Crime

Two interesting articles on this issue caught my eye. The first is by J. James Estrada at American Thinker: Two new studies have been released this month on the relationship between illegal immigrants -- more aptly called border violators -- and crime in the U.S. The first released October 1, 2008, by the Center for Immigration Studies deals with gang activity, and the second, released October 3, 2008, by the Maricopa County Attorneys Office in Phoenix, Arizona, details the percentage of crimes

Secrecy fuels concern about U.S.-Canada 'partnership'

Before you go into the voting booth next week, there's something you need to think about. Though under-reported in the media, over the past few years Canada has been involved in disturbingly secretive negotiations aimed at further integrating our country with the United States. The Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America was officially launched in 2005, though there have been multiple efforts in the same vein by various governments and think-tanks for a lot longer than that.

Katharina Ludwig

What I like the most in Katharina Ludwig’s project is the attention she gives to the relation between objects, feelings and memories… We can’t interact with things without transferring them our personal touch and experience, therefore things change with us and because of us… “The bracelet works like a knitting spool. It symbolizes new roots you constantly grow and become a part of. The yarn that goes in, stands for the experiences you make, the knitting is the assimilation and what comes out,

by Tyler Carter tyler@patriotsdaily.com In his first year on the job, San Francisco offensive coordinator Mike Martz is transitioning the 49ers to an “Air Coryell” offense, having previously used it in St. Louis (with spectacular results) and Detroit.  The system is named for Don Coryell, who first developed the complex, pass-happy (hence the “Air” epithet) offense at San Diego State and later refined it at the pro level with the Dan Fouts-led San Diego Chargers.  Martz was first exposed to i

Catalyst Nuggets of Wisdom: Ed Stetzer

Ed Stetzer taught the second lab at Catalyst yesterday. He talked about the three kingdom recognitions for church planters 1. The Lordship of Jesus When you plant a church you become so busy that other things like creativity or assimilation become “lords” of your church. Church planters need to plant churches that announce the Lordship of Jesus to people that are far from him but deeply need him. Church plants announce the Kingdom and develop communities of kingdom people. When Jesus spoke

More fall madness

Now with less pictures, more sloth! I think I’ve just about seen the first episodes of everything I’m remotely interested in, and more, except I’m still waiting for subtitles for a head-exploding trip down memory lane with the new Hokuto No Ken. So here’s where I’m at. To Aru Majutsu no Index I’m not sure how I could possibly blog this show because I have to look up the name every time I write it. Looks like action and magic are going to combine in a Eureka-like setting where the use of psychi

Analysis Shows Immigrant-Friendly Legislation Fares Better at State Level

This study shows that state legislatures enact more laws aimed at expanding immigrant rights than laws trying to crackdown on them. Very interesting. DPBy Caitlin Webber, CQ Staffcqpolitics.com: State legislation aimed at expanding immigrant rights have a higher passage rate than those intended to crack down on illegal immigration, according to a new Migration Policy Institute analysis of state legislative data.MPI, a nonpartisan immigration think tank, teamed up with New York University Law
