Assimilation ?
We are losing ground fast, we have so little respect for this great nation that we now have people who support anyone rewriting the National Anthem. And some of our leaders, conservative and liberal alike have lost perspective on the issues. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is a great example of someone who should pay closer attention to the details of the country she is SERVING ! Instead she just spits out the same tripe responses we have come to expect out of politicians.

Hygiene was an important theme in the postwar era
No question, it’s a little unsettling to read this ad from 1947-48, which underscores today’s perception that the 40s and 50s exerted too much pressure to conform to society norms — in this case, around personal hygiene. In reading about the period, the issue of ‘cleanliness’ seems to go a bit deeper than mere righteousness or intolerance. Back to the day of Florence Nightingale there had been pressure to improve levels of cleanliness in order to combat disease. In the earlier days of Ameri
Combat Attachments Born of Blood
I think that the world needs to know what a combat veteran goes through on a daily basis. If PTSD goes untreated, more than likely it will become a permanent and chronically debilitating mental wound. The combat attachments born of blood do not leave us because we depart the battlefield, they become an empty feeling inside of us. The soldier develops a highly narrow functioning self-organization in conjunction with his or her other squad members. This organization, a "troop-organism," becomes a
More Yemeni Than Russians?
. “The fragmentation of Islamic civilization. With birthrates in Muslim societies more than double the European average, Islamic countries are bound to put pressure on Europe and the U.S. in the years ahead. If, as is forecast, the population of Yemen will exceed that of Russia by 2050, there must be either dramatic improvements in the Middle East’s economic performance or substantial emigration from the Arab world to senescent Europe. Yet the subtle colonization of Europe’s cities by Muslims do

Other interesting bits from the NIC 2025 study
The new National Intelligence Council's report on what the world may look like in 2025 is so dense that a lot of really interesting findings couldn't be included in the story written when the study was unveiled on Nov 20. So Nukes & Spooks thought we'd throw some out there - in no particular order - for popular consideration: One factor that could mitigate the socio-economic impact of aging workforces in many countries over the next two decades is the economic empowerment of women. The rep
Six Supplements to Help Manage Diabetes
By Terry Stanfield Many people out there struggle with diabetes mellitus when in truth it is actually a very manageable disease. Type 2 Diabetes is the most common of the three types in existence. There is also a vast amount of information available on the management of diabetes. The other problem is that most people feel that having diabetes is the end of the world and it would take a lot of money and effort to manage or control it. But to be honest the management of diabetes is for the most pa

Taglit: Assimilation is the number one enemy of the Jewish people
Taglit CEO: Assimilation bigger threat to Jewish people than anti-Semitism By Haaretz Staff The major threat facing the Jewish people is not anti-Semitism but assimilation, says CEO of Taglit-Birthright Israel, Gidi Mark. And while Taglit sponsors free trips to Israel for thousands of young Jews every year, Mark says, thousands more are slipping through the cracks. "We have been witnessing over the last 20 years a huge decline in the demographic of young Jews around the world and in Nor
Embracing diversity
This post is one day late but I had a long day yesterday with the press preview for A Christmas Carol. Still, I saw this article in The Star earlier in the morning and wanted to just record it on here. In the article headlined: Nazrin warns of dangers in rejecting diversity, the Raja Muda of Perak reportedly said: “Integration accepts and enlists; it does not coerce. It respects and values differences as legitimate. Assimilation, on the other hand, seeks to change language, customs, religions
Fate of Lakotahs Highlights America's Failed Native American Policies
Fate of Lakotahs Highlights America's Failed Native American Policies - by Stephen Lendman On November 6, South Dakota's governor Michael Rounds declared a state of emergency as heavy snow blanketed the state and threatened all parts of it - including Native American reservations. They, however, were excluded from his declaration. They'll get no badly needed help, and it's an all too familiar story for our nation's original inhabitants. They've been abused and slaughtered for over 500 years.
Tory future for UUP and new Assembly fudge recipe
The prospect of a UUP - Tory pact is interesting in a number of ways. From a UUP point of view this could get the party off the hook of sectarian politics which has dominated it since its foundation. David Cameron’s Conservative Party will not tolerate the sort of policies which the UUP promoted during their earlier relationship in the 20th century. In fairness to the new generation of UUP people, they seem very keen to find a new and relevant voice. The Tories will get a couple of extra
NW APOC Zine Callout
A media arm of NW APOC called Colored People’s Resistance (CPR) was recently created, and is producing its first publication with a theme focused on ThanksTAKING. This call goes out to anarchist/anti-authoritarian people of color who want to have your essay, news report, poetry, photography, cartoon, artwork or any other form that you may create to address the tragic impact of what the national Thanksgiving holiday signifies to many people of color included in our first issue. Some themes to c

One year after Japan reinstitutes fingerprinting for NJ, a quick retrospective Posted by debito on November 21st, 2008 It’s already been a year since Japan reinstituted fingerprinting for most NJ on November 20, 2007. There are still concerns about its application, its efficacy, the sweetheart GOJ deal to quasi-American company Accenture to make these machines, the long lines at the border due to faulty machines, the lumping in of Permanent Residents with tourists, the official justifications
How do we evolve to a P2P society: Germ Form Theory (1)
This is a republication of large excerpts from the Oekonux germ form theory, which posits five steps of social transition from one type of society to another. As ‘post-Marxist’ movement, Oekonux theoreticians like Stefan Merten and Stefan Meretz are heavily indebted to philosophies like Hegel’s, as we will see below. By Stefan Meretz and Stefan Merten: I. Background to the theory The Five Step Model has been influenced by a number of precursors. For one, Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, one of
The South Asian Tinge in Jazz
The South Asian Tinge in Jazz Jelly Roll Morton, in an oft-quoted passage, once spoke about the “Latin tinge” that was, in his opinion, an essential ingredient of jazz. Although Morton has sometimes been derided, and is often treated with bemused disdain by later commentators, his remarks on jazz are typically quite astute. When talking about himself, Morton could be an unreliable source, but on almost every other subject, he needs to be taken seriously. His remarks on the Latin tinge are a cas
Innovation Around the Edges of HCM Software
Bill Kutik had a great article in HR Executive magazine about ongoing innovation in the E-Recruitment software market. I agree with him. We discussed a lot of the areas of innovation around the edges in recruiting in the Magic Quadrant for E-Recruitment Software (Gartner subscription required). As Bill points out, there are new vendors popping up all of the time (even since we published our research). There is always innovation occurring around the edges of established application areas. E

WhiteKnot.org
WhiteKnot.org The white knot is the new symbol for marriage equality. It takes two traditional symbols of marriage—white and tying the knot—and combines them in a simple way to show support for the right of gays and lesbians to marry. All loving couples deserve the same legal rights, benefits, and respect that civil marriage bestows. That’s cool and all. I get where they’re coming from. But who decided this? A bunch of white guys in West Hollywood? Because there are lots of marriage tradition
Book Review: The New Gold Standard
If you've never experienced at night at the Ritz-Carlton, then you're missing out on some of the greatest customer service available on the planet. That's why I'm so glad that Joseph Michell wrote "The New Gold Standard: 5 Leadership Principles for Creating a Legendary Customer Experience Courtesy of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company". The book was incredibly thorough and tells the story of the Ritz-Carlton not just for the sake of telling a good story, but to paint the picture of their commitment
Letter to the Editor / Museum of Tolerance is a beacon of light, not a wall
Last update - 12:00 20/11/2008 Letter to the Editor / Museum of Tolerance is a beacon of light, not a wall Regarding Bradley Burston's article "Dividing Jerusalem, one wall at a time" Bradley Burston criticizes the Museum of Tolerance project in Jerusalem claiming it would be "dividing Jerusalem one wall at a time" because it is being built atop an ancient Muslim cemetery. What he deliberately hides from his readers is that the land was given to the Simon Wiesenthal Center by the gov
