Tornadocane

I guess you could say I am a little bit of a weather buff. Until Hurricane Katrina took a path that put us in the dark for several days and scared the daylights out of us, we (my wife and I) would look forward to a little stormy weather. Now, we are a little more leary of a big storm, yet we still like the rain with thunder and lightning.
Anyway, I found this posting at the Weather Channel to be very interesting and worth a look.

Mollie the Collie loves bad weather

Just playing around with Picasa software today and browsing through my pictures when I came across this one.
Every time there is any bad weather, and it does not have to be anything more than a little wind and rain, the dogs freak out, especially our Border Collie.
Mollie is obviously the worst. If you look closely you can see our other dog Belle under the desk. I have to admit, a dog hiding under the desk makes a little sense to me, but, climbing up on top of the desk?
Not sure what Mollie thinks is going to happen now?

Gustav’s footprint

Here’s an interesting look at where Hurricane Gustav passed through Louisiana. You can click on this to get the whole 570kb picture, much larger. It’s a map of parishes (counties, to you outside Louisiana) colored by the percentages of power outage.  Pink is 76-100%, yellow is 51-75%.  Since bad weather is the most likely cause of power outage, you get some idea where the really bad weather interacted with the state. Let me point out a couple of things.  First is that some of those parishe

Silent night, no rain in sight

We live in a city where it can be storming wildly one day, and the next day the weather is clear and quiet, just as though nature had never lost her temper. After the past weekend's rain and heavy winds it must be hard to imagine that we've just had two days of perfectly clear weather. As quickly as bad weather arrives, it vanishes without a trace, leaving in its stead a crisp, clear and smogless skyline. Ah, the beauty of Cape Town... I was hoping to get a photo of the pink city skyline thi
