Mens Straw Hat
Every year about this time, I tell my wife I need a Mens Straw Hat. And every year, usually about the time I pull my Fedora out for winter wearing, I realize I never got my hat. I probably have close to 100 Baseball Caps that I wear year round, but I want something a little different.
So this year will be different. I am officially in the market for a good Straw Hat.
Last time I was in Bass Pro Shop they had a few decent looking hats. The problem was either they had band around the hat I did not [...]

In Their Words: Industry Experts on Why Hunting Is In Decline
In the December 2008/January 2009 issue, Bob Marshall writes an insightful and revealing look at the reasons for hunting’s decline (Why Johnny Won’t Hunt). To get more perspective, we posed two straightforward questions to various leaders in the U.S. hunting community. 1) Why does hunting recruitment continue to decline? 2) If this trend is not reversed, what will hunting in America look like in 50 years? You can read their responses by clicking the link below. Why do you think hunti

NASCAR: Johnson wins third title in a row to match Yarborough (+result)
Edwards wins race at Homestead, falls 69 points short Nothing could stop Jimmie Johnson’s drive into the NASCAR record books. Not even a final, furious push by Carl Edwards. Edwards led a race-high 157 laps, ran out of gas as he crossed the finish line, but still won Sunday’s season-ending race at Homestead-Miami Speedway (watch video). His series-high ninth win of the year wasn’t enough to wrest away the Sprint Cup title. Johnson locked up his third consecutive championship with a solid 15t

Cincinnati Mills
Seemingly doomed from its start, Forest Fair Mall was completed in stages from 1988 to 1989, and featured nearly 200 stores and four anchors. Located in northwest Cincinnati, it was one of the state's largest malls, and most impressive. That was one of its only positive highlights, however. The shopping center was completed for $50 million over budget and left the owner saddled with debt. Not surprisingly, the builder, L.J. Hooker, declared bankruptcy only months after the complex was completed

Big NASCAR Merger
Today the final nail was set into place and the team founded by NASCAR icon Dale Earnhardt Sr. will merge with Indy Car Icon and NASCAR team owner Chip Ganassi. Strictly from a business side this is a move that make a lot of sense, basically 7 teams that had 2.5 sponsors become 4 teams with 2.5 sponsors. Meaning less sponsorship will be needed to fill out the roster. From a Competition side this move makes even more sense. Chip Ganssi will now be the at the track presence DEI has lacked sinc

Away for the Weekend
This past weekend Nick and I went to visit our friends who hosted our wedding back in April. It was nice to see them and to be back in such a special place. I love that they still have the wreath on the door from the wedding. So pretty! We spent an afternoon wandering through some shops in Mariposa, a small town about 30 minutes away. I was most interested in the kitties hanging out by Chocolate Soup.On our way home we stopped at the biggest outdoor shop I've ever seen. It was amazing. At the ent
Group challenging state grants in N.Y.
Group challenging state grants in N.Y. Daily Record (Rochester, NY), Aug 8, 2008 by Eric Walter If James Ostrowski had his druthers, this year’s state budget would be clear of line items like $25 million for Delphi Harrison, a Lockport-based heating and cooling manufacturer. The problem, as he sees it, is that politicians and government officials simply do not understand basic economic concepts like opportunity costs. “When you give money to someone, you have to take it from someone else,”

In politics, there is no offseason
In politics, there is no offseason Blake's Blog November 11th, 2008 Anyone who thought the campaign season ended with last Tuesday’s elections must have been dreaming. Already this week, Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin has acknowledged in interviews that she might consider running for president in 2012. And closer to home, Shelby County Mayor A C Wharton confirmed his interest in running for Memphis mayor in 2011. (Can Carol Chumney be far behind?) So what are some o

The perfect weekend.
We had a fabulous, albeit busy, weekend. We took the kids out for pizza Friday night after scoring some clearanced costumes (yay for 75% off at Target!) for their dress-up box. We did the girl/boy split on Saturday. My mom and I took Sweet Pea to an awesome arts/crafts show while my dad and hubby took the boys to Bass Pro Shops. So manly, eh? The kids and the grown-ups had a blast. I got some of my Christmas shopping done at the show, and Pop got pictures of Snap and Split posed in a party boat
