I talk to crackers

No, I am not making a racist statement, I really talk to crackers. You know, crackers, the kind you eat.
My taste buds must be warped. I like to blame it on the chemotherapy I did 14 years ago. After Chemo my taste for some things was changed. Beer taste terrible, unless it is a dark beer, I hardly use mustard preferring mayonnaise on most sandwiches, and I clearly remember not liking mayonnaise most of my life.
Now comes the crackers… Cheez It brand started making different flavors of their crackers. I quickly became addicted to the BBQ flavor crackers. Perfect for [...]

A-hole Santa and the Eagles of Death Metal at Criminal Records Today, Sat., Nov. 22

Today, Sat., Nov. 22nd, the infamous A-hole Santa returns to Criminal Records for the annual holiday sob fest. Santa, along with his trusty elves, Dookie and Crappy, will be available for photos and abuse from noon to 6 p.m., or until the crankiness becomes too unbearable -- whichever comes first. Bachelor Diaries: Am I 100 Years Old?

November 22, 1:55 P.M.: It wasn’t so long ago that “going out” meant having a couple of drinks at the dorm, getting a cab at around 10:30 or 11:00, heading out the bars with a group until 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning, and then coming back to the dorm and watching Can’t Hardly Wait (not my choice) until 6:00 a.m. Shotgunning a beer was no problem. Shots were no problem. Money was no object. And you’d be up the next morning no later than 10:00, ready to do it again the next night. WHAT THE HELL HA

“We’re Having a Party, Please Come”

“We’re Having a Party, Please Come” Bonus points for anyone who catches the song reference… in any case, we’re giving you far too much advanced warning, but we’re having a party in April. MNBeer turned 3 this year and we were all to busy to celebrate (or perhaps we were celebrating other things). So in light of that fact, we’ve decided to throw a 3.5 year birthday party for MNBeer.com. I don’t have the date or the venue nailed down quite yet, but I can promise you a good time, local beer, grea

Blue Nile Updates

Blue Nile Updates Good things down at the Blue Nile. First and foremost, they’ve added a new Delerium Tremens tap tower with two faucets which allows Al to have two more beers on tap. To top it off, they’ve been updating their website a bit and now have a Google slideshow that includes their draft list. Good stuff. November 22, 2008, 01:32pm :: Posted by ryan in general beer

Ain't it the truth!

Outliers are people, too The University of California called me up and we had a nice chat the other day. Perhaps “chat” isn't the right word. The UC asked me lots and lots of questions and I gave lots and lots of one-word answers. I am, you see, a research subject. Or was, anyway. I think we're done now. I'm not completely certain how I came to the UC's attention. The letter announcing their interest in me said I was randomly selected for their research pool, but it wasn't clear to me whether

Coping with those bailed out UK banks when you need Business Finance

So now the banks have been bailed out with tax payer money, credit is free flowing again – right? Wrong. Now more than ever they are looking at every application with suspicion because the downturn they have brought about will make it more difficult for small companies to pay them back. And then they’d need bailing out with more tax payer money. Interesting business model. But fear not – just head over to business finance experts Beer and Young to get the solution. They specialise in turnaround

Dark Mild at Barley John’s

Dark Mild at Barley John’s This sounds good. I may have to roll out to Barley John’s before you jerks drink it all The Mild is a style from England that shares the “session” status akin to the Bitter. A fair proportion of roasted barley and chocolate malts provide an almost stout/porter like quality in the flavor while the low alcohol and subsequent low body of the beer bring these flavors into focus with an easy drinkability. Thanksgiving Myths

The following is reprinted from The Best of The Best of Uncle John's Bathroom Reader. First Thanksgiving 1621 by Jean Leon Gerome Ferris, via Library of Congress It's one of American history's most familiar scenes: A small group of Pilgrims prepare a huge November feast to give thanks for a bountiful harvest and show their appreciation to the Indians who helped them survive their first winter. Together, the Pilgrims and the Indians solemnly sit down to a meal of turkey, pumpkin pie, and

How To Maintain Your Sense Of Humor During A Recession

Note: This post was written in exchange for a crappy spider drawing. Send me a crappy spider drawing along with a subject for a post and I’ll write it, no questions asked. Now that the stock market is hitting new lows and layoffs are on the rise, it’s understandable people are getting a bit bummed out. I’m not exactly a pillar of happy happy joy joy but I’ve managed to maintain an aura of stability, partly because I went through a similarly crappy time at the tail end of the .com crash and h

The Ladies of Edenton meet the next lady of Foggy Bottom

With news reports everywhere confirming that Hillary Clinton will accept Barack Obama’s offer to serve as his Secretary of State, it seems like the perfect time to reflect on one of the most condescending smears deployed by the Democratic presidential candidates and their supporters during the primary race:  that Hillary Clinton’s service as First Lady didn’t give her any meaningful experience with foreign affairs of diplomacy, and that it could be reduced to simply drinking tea with diplomats

#18 - Where in the beer world?

Do you know where in the beer world this photo was taken? Go ahead, take a guess by leaving a comment. This isn’t really a contest, but there will be prizes. Details when we return from Europe in December. The weekly hint: You could argue the “V” has a double meaning.

A Hungry Thanksgiving for Many Americans

A new USDA report on hunger just came out - but unfortunately, they don't even show the full extent of the problem. The numbers are from 2007, pre-economic-shit-hitting-fan. Overall, 11.1% of Americans lived in "food insecure" households during 2007. That is 36.2 million people, or a little less than the entire population of California. Can you imagine? An entire California of hungry people? The government calls that number "essentially unchanged" from 2006 but in reality even if the percentage
