Television and Kids
I saw an advertisement recently for a new DVD of Looney Tunes. These were the best cartoons of my childhood and we also had some great TV shows to watch, Gilligans Island, Hogan Heroes, The Brady Bunch and Andy Griffith just to name a few.
It is so different now for my kids, there are entire channels devoted to the kids. The major channels that I am familiar with are the Cartoon Network and Disney Channel. Disney has a revolving door of shows and stars it has created over time and they just kept creating more.

British trade unions condemn attack on single parents
This video from the USA says about itself: Bob Crow, the General Secretary of the UK-Rail Maritime and Transport Union spoke at an internantional conference of transportation workers in San Francisco on November 16, 2006. He was introduced by the Transportation Workers Solidarity Committee Chair and ILWU Local 10 member Jack Heyman. The RMT has been fighting for the renationalization of the British railways and also his union the RMT has actively opposed the imperialist war in Iraq. The con
Like, zOMG!: A Look at Gaia’s New Free-to-Play Browser MMORPG
When I first got a call about playing and writing a feature about the Gaia Online-based browser MMORPG, zOMG!, I was fairly hesitant. Like many, my knowledge of what Gaia was came only from other forums which made fun of its community. (For those who don’t know what it is, it’s best summed up as online social gaming, typically in a forum-based environment.) But still … a free-to-play MMO without downloads? And with industry juggernauts like composer Jeremy Soule on board? Maybe it wouldn’t
Jar Jar Binks Goes Jedi in Clone Wars
Let the reclamation of Lucasfilm's clumsiest character commence. On Friday's episode of Clone Wars, Jar Jar Binks becomes a Jedi. In an interstellar case of mistaken identity, the half-wit Naboo native dons the cloak, teams up with the first trilogy's bumbler C-3PO, and saves Amidala from separatists who think he's a master of The Force. "I wanted to find a middle ground between the funny side of Jar Jar and heroic redemption," writer Kevin Rubio said in a press release about Friday's new
On the Death of Blogging, Bertrand Russell, Ben Franklin, Hugh McLeod & Jason Calacanis
cartoon by Hugh McLeod of Gaping Void Hugh McLeod drew the cartoon above at the Blog 08 conference in Amsterdam last month as a response to the October 20 Wired article by Paul Boutin which tells people to pull the plug on their personal blogs because they just can’t compete with professionally written sites like Huffington Post: Writing a weblog today isn’t the bright idea it was four years ago. The blogosphere, once a freshwater oasis of folksy self-expression and clever thought, has been floo
Hockey teams getting very creative
We have talked about this before, I love it when Sports teams get creative with their ticket promotions and innovations that help them sell out, even in tough economic times. This is the best defense of the Free market system I happen to believe in, and the ultimate argument against any form of bailouts for any US Industry. Yes I live in Detroit, and no I do not think the Big Three should get any Federal money. However I have a couple of stories from a couple different hockey teams, and how t

MC Chris with Totally Michael live in Philly!
OK, I've been an MC Chris fan for a number of years (well, 5 to be exact), but somehow, I was never able to catch him live. I was pretty stoked to finally get to see MC Chris, and Totally Michael was a complete added bonus.Jesse DangerouslyOK, nobody knew this guy was even playing because he was not on the bill, but that didn't stop this unassuming Nova Scotian rapper from charming the crowd with his humor, blazing fast raps, and all around friendliness. While the crowd wasn't really moving (a

Facebook Users Get Busted
Once again, we are amazed at the apparent idiocy of people who are too casual when on the Internet. Tom Stones, a Tesco store worker in the UK, called in sick, but later posted on Facebook. He now faces disciplinary action. Last month, 13 Virgin Atlantic crew members used the same means to trash their employer and were consequently fired. Australian Kyle Doyle called in sick after a night out. His managers found him updating his Facebook page. Thank goodness that those of us who work/play on th

Commercial Icons Turn Superficial in ‘Vast Food Nation’
The bizarro, uncopywritten counterparts of legendary food company mascots come out in full force in Vast Food Nation - an original animated web series on Aniboom. Written and directed by Adam Pava (whose pervious credits include the sorta similarly-themed Clone High), Vast Food Nation gives us the exploits of such celebrity animated mascots as Green Giant, Mindy, Monsieur Peanut, and iterations of the Hamburger Helper Glove Guy (with cigarette in hand), Tony the Tiger, Ronald McDonald, Too
My open letter to DirecTV
Dear DirecTV, You have one very angry parent here. Next time you decide to move channels around or add in new channels to the family section of your line up, how about an explanation of what you are doing? Unfortunately this morning we turned on the T.V. and found the new Cartoon Network West coast that you added. There was an innocent looking cartoon that resembled Davey and Goliath(I thought it was Davey and Goliath). Unfortunately this cartoon was NO Davey and Goliath. Davey and Goliath neve
Do you want to brawl, Mom?
Last year it was the coveted Ben 10 Omnitrix watch, this year it’s Bakugan Battle Brawlers. My four-year-old is obsessed with these small plastic spheres that morph into little warrior creatures when rolled onto a magnetic card. Based on a Cartoon Network show, and of course supported by an incredible amount of marketing, these little balls of fun are the rage at my sons’ school….and a bit of a distraction. Not sure how the game really works, but my son has instructed me to yell “Bakugan
