Christmas Tree Sales

Over the last few years it has been reported that live Christmas Trees Sales continue to decline, while artificial Christmas Tree sales are growing.
There are probably a lot of reasons for this including the time it takes to shop for a tree and the ability to haul it. Plus as with almost everything else, online Christmas tree sales are sure to make it easier. Why run around town fighting the Christmas tree sales when you can have a Christmas Tree delivered to your door.
And just think, it may be the last Christmas Tree you ever have to buy.
If you’re new [...]

Five-year U.S. crude oil futures at record $30 premium LONDON (Reuters) - U.S. crude oil futures for delivery in January 2014 are trading at a record $30 premium to current contracts, as investors bet that the long-term trend toward higher prices will remain intact despite oil's slump to $50 a barrel. U.S. crude oil futures -- the global benchmark for oil prices -- have collapsed by almost $100 a barrel since hitting an all time high above $147 a barrel in July. On Friday, U.S. crude for del

Late Autumn

November 20, 2008 in Mama Musings The sound of my own whining is getting to me. As I look out the window over my desk, the trees are bare, save a few last straggling hangers-on, the wind is whipping the fallen leaves in eddies and whorls, and a forlorn tricycle has been left stranded, forgotten, in the middle of the yard. It’s a adequate snap-shot of my inner-life. Yesterday, I noticed people out putting up their Christmas decorations, and for a few minutes, I was puzzled- why would anyone de

Compare to...

When I walked in the door last night, I saw some of the sale and advertising brochures that are delivered to everyone's home each week on our dining room table.  I idly flipped through one of them, from a discount store, while I ate my dinner...because I didn't have anything better to read like the side of a cereal box or anything. The first thing that caught my eye was a refurbished Dyson vacuum. Hmmm, been watching out for one of those.  But then I was distracted by a row of Christmas trees w

Holly Jolly Wastefulness

Photo by vladdythephotogeek Here are some statistics from Plenty magazine that demonstrate the wastefulness that comes with the consumerism centered around the holiday season.  Maybe seeing some of it typed out will motivate you to take one more step toward improving your family’s “greenness” this year.  I know it did for me! The volume of US household waste increases by 25% between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day The US produces 4 million tons of gift wrap and shopping bag waste every year 20.8

How Soon Is Too Soon For Christmas?

I love Christmas. I do. I love everything it stands for, Rankin & Bass movies, ABC Family’ 25 Days of Christmas, the Charlie Brown Tree, the Tacky Lights Tour, and having an excuse to jingle gold balls all along the way. But I ask you, is Santa coming too early this year? As I type this it’s not even Thanksgiving and I already have a radio station programmed in my car purely because it’s playing Christmas music 24/7. The new Gap Ads have been released, and while it was 60 degrees in Harriso

Losing my religion

It's almost Thanksgiving which means it's time for that other turkey in the straw, Frere Jim-Bob Dobson to climb out of his borrow. If he sees his shadow, it means a few more millennia before the second coming. Yes, I'm sure with the incoming godless (actually I got to see Hal Lindsey explain how the Obama Presidency will usher in the World Government, aka reign of the Anti-Christ, great comedy) Obama Presidency will mean fewer merchants will say the politically correct "Merry Christmas" and ins

Top 5 Eco-Friendly Holiday Trends

This holiday season, eco-friendly is the way to go! Everywhere you look these days, there’s something “green” - from clean-running hybrid cars to hardwood bedroom furniture made from sustainably harvested forests. I guess it’s fitting that the color “green” is one of the colors that’s synonymous with the holiday season (along with red)! In keeping with the holiday tradition of “giving back,” here are the top 5 eco-friendly holiday trends this year. This is a preview of the “Green Christmas” se

Christmas Open House Inspiration

We are still in Florida having some fun, but here is some Christmas inspiration that I thought you might enjoy. I'll share some Florida pics when I return! Recently, my friend Debbie and I stopped by the Christmas Open House at one of my favorite Homewood shops, Harmony Landing. They always decorate so nicely for the holidays and we were not disappointed this year. So, I thought you'd all enjoy the tour as well. Come along for some Christmas ideas and holiday cheer. It's just around the corner,

BIG WINNINGS, AND SEVEN LITTLE KNOWN FACTS WITH A TWIST

Last week, the postwoman brought some really fun packages my way. I won, this gorgeous scarf from Laura at Shore(house)chic, when she had a giveaway with a very unique theme. She visited a house that was for sale, an old and unusual house,  that used to be a school house in Lambertville, New Jersey. To enter her give away, you had to guess the asking price of the house. I am proud to say that my many years of going to open houses and snooping around payed off, as mine was the clo

Publishing News: Christmas is a Season

It's here: the new anthology of Christmas stories and essays from Excalibur Press.  Just released and available from Amazon.   I'm excited because I have a story in it.  The story is called The Tree Ritual, and it is based on a chapter from my long-sitting-in-a-desk-drawer novel called Language of Trees.   I loved going back to the story and immersing myself in it again for this anthology and I'm excited that the novel may take on a new life and yet see the light of day. But enough about me.  I

The Christmas Creep

Jump to Comments No, I’m not talking about The Grinch or any other fictional character.  The Christmas Creep is the continuous elongation of the holiday. {in my best old man voice} When I was a kid the Christmas holiday began on Black Friday.  This is the day after Thanksgiving, which is last Friday in November.  This was a big event and stores used the day to begin sales and the like.  Now Christmas holiday begins sometime after Labor Day (the first Tuesday in September) but before Halloween (O

A Thanksgiving Day Fast For Peace By Gary Corseri

November 17, 2008 — dandelionsalad By Gary Corseri featured writerDandelion Salad Nov. 17, 2008 “Our lives flow from our beliefs, and our beliefs are conditioned by our daily actions.  As we act, so we build our character and so we become.” *** “Because of the industrialization of food production, we eat artificially colored, flavored, refined, processed, irradiated, engineered, and chemical-laden products that confirm we will eat virtually anything and everything.” *** “In a herding culture,

White Wedding: Chic and Sleek Tips for a Winter Wedding

Even here in Florida, Jack Frost is in the air and my thoughts can’t help but turn to winter. If you’ve recently become engaged, then I’m sure that your thoughts are on nothing but the wedding. But if you are still stumped on color scheme, location and even your date, then maybe a traditional wedding isn’t for you. Set yourself apart from traditional crowd and opt instead for a Winter Wedding! A White Wedding can be fun and elegant if done correctly. If Christmas has always been your favorite

Reindeer Races

As we’re approaching the festive season I’ve been offered some prize Community Site real estate to impart some truly exciting news on the plans that one of Santa’s performance-focused management elves has developed as a Christmas Incentive for the CSC here at Plusnet Towers. We have it on good authority from Santa’s list of who’s been naughty and nice that there are going to be plenty of 802.11n wireless routers, dongles and shiny new MacBooks beautifully wrapped and nestling beneath Christm

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like

Christmas. There. I said it. I tried (gently) to talk about Christmas trees with my husband on Sunday. He gave me the “you’re nuts” look that I adore and said Christmas trees should go up in December. I argued that they should be up before Thanksgiving. He insists I made that up. Did I? I don’t think so. Regardless, we’ve been married over a decade and the tree has always been up before Thanksgiving. So it will be this year, too. There are many reasons why I should be dreading the holida

I Think Camping Will Wait Until Spring...

Wow...it's cold outside!!! We have been moving the last two nights (yard sale stuff) and man oh man, it's cold. Soooooo, I agree with those who posted that we might should wait. We are going to make a trip to Atlanta...not sure which day, but I see an IKEA trip, maybe a trip to the Aquarium, Coke-a-cola place...who knows what else. This is a total sidenote....but, we really like visiting Andrew Jackson's home in TN....are there any other president homes anywhere within driving distance...I thin
