RIP - Elvis Presley
Today, August 16th 2006 marks the 29th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death.
As time has passed the connection to this great artist has probably been diminished among the younger musicians out there. However, there is no doubt that Elvis helped usher in a new era of music that was and is Rock and Roll.
If you never had the oppurtunity to see Elvis live or on TV, check out the videos of his 1968 comeback special, it is one of his best.
God Bless ya Elvis, and thanks for all you did.

Winter's Fall: Missing Link from Alt to Strange Country by larry
Winter's Fall (self-titled) Highly Recommended - Five Stars Winter's Fall is a blending of My Morning Jacket's frightening-Kentucky-backwoods sound with Uncle Tupelo's straight-up alt-country-rock, but with just a dash of Neil Young thrown in for good measure. These guys can rock you, zone you out, and pull you right back in. Lead singer Peter Stanley's voice is a high-pitched, nasal grit and very reminiscent of the "strange country" sound from bands like My Morning Jacket and Band of Horse
Vatican Forgives Lennon's Controversial Jesus Slam
Better late than never. The Vatican's official newspaper L'Osservatore Romano finally forgave John Lennon's infamous 1966 claim that his band was "more popular than Jesus." And, yea, it was all good. In a curious twist, the way-past-due change of heart and mind came on the 40th anniversary of The White Album's 1968 release. Look Vatican, we don't want to tell you how to do your job, but you might have wanted to forgive Lennon's statement in 2007, the 40th anniversary of The Beatles' epochal
Video: Shinichi Osawa / “Star Guitar”
Electronic music artists don’t cover each other’s tunes. Aside from Josh Wink’s “How’s Your Evening So Far?,” which brilliantly integrated Lil’ Louis’ “French Kiss” into a new dance floor classic, dance music covers are typically relegated to applauding a rock or pop record a la Bryan Adams. This brings us to Shinichi Osawa’s cover of The Chemical Brothers’ “Star Guitar.” Not only does Tokyo based Osawa (aka Mondo Grosso) do a credible job putting his own stamp on this quality tune featuring Au
The Great Pumpkin Homecoming (Night 3 - 11/21)
After enduring radio interviews and being slammed by everyone’s favorite circle of hipsters, the Smashing Pumpkins came out alive to continue rocking Chicago. Though they weren’t without consequences as Billy Corgan coughed, spit, and dragged around in a sick stupor. Whether or not the cold, the criticism, or the tour itself has weakened his immune system, we’ll never know (let’s leave that for TMZ to find out); irregardless, Corgan pummeled through a high-octane set that raised the hair on eve
Peter Rowan::Texican Badman, 1980
[IMG Peter Rowan: Texican Badman [album cover art]]After seeing Peter Rowan’s stand-out opening set Thursday night at the Paramount Theater (which was followed by performances from Jesse Winchester and Guy Clark), I was inspired to go back and re-visit some of my favorite Peter Rowan recordings from my own personal music library. While rolling through my collection of CD’s and old vinyl records I happened to stumbled across this often over-looked classic. Released in 1980, Peter Rowan’s Texic
Party People
Party People Jerremy's party turned out to be great fun! DJ GoSpeed Racer did a fantastic job of mixing some very danceable classic rock tunes! She was even able to find ABBA's most rockin' tune so that we could honor HALEY Salomon's request to hear the band! I tried to take some good pictures but it was difficult with lag and with everyone moving around so much, LOL!! There are some more pictures on Alicia Chenaux's blog and on Casandra Shilova's blog, too. This is a picture of the party

XNA Community Games Off to a Huge Start
On Wednesday this week, November 19th, XNA Community Games launched on the Xbox 360 with the new dashboard updated - The New Xbox Experience. Just three days after launch there are already 45 games available in Xbox Live’s XNA Community Games (ranging in price from $2.50 to $10), and that number continues to grow daily. Sure, there are plenty of them that you’re probably not interested in but there are also some really great games in there as well. Similar to Xbox Live Arcade titles each XN
The Fireman: “Electric Arguments”
It probably wasn’t planned, but it’s fitting just the same that Paul McCartney is releasing his third Fireman album– along with collaborator/producer Youth– just a couple of days after The White Album turned forty. The Beatles’ seminal double album arrived at a time when fans and critics were beginning to think they had Paul all figured out– he was, conventional wisdom held, the schmaltzy, sentimental softy in the group, more enamored with twee recreations of British dancehall and traditiona
Tricky Beats: Shake Your Rump
Beastie Boys - Shake Your Rump [purchase] I couldn't begin to tell you how many different time signatures are in this song, but I do know this ... it's a trip, it's got a funky beat, and I can bug out to it. The second track on the Beastie Boys' landmark frankenrecording, Paul's Boutique, "Rump" is so sonically dense, there's still a handful of samples hiding in the underbrush, waiting for archaeologists to flush them out. For a great analysis of this song, head over to Ear Fuzz and read, "An
EU Presents Ambitious Open-Source Library Digitization Project, Site Promptly Crashes
This is a guest post by Kathlyn Clore, Associate Editor at the European Journalism Centre who was kind enough to write this report for us after attending the press event. A cadre of European politicians gathered Thursday at the Museum of the 18th century in Brussels to launch Europeana, a digital museum that allows visitors to explore classic paintings, photos, recordings and texts in the same manner in which it is possible to search, say, Amazon.com. Trying to access Europeana on the day o
The Brilliant Mistakes: On The Day I Found My Hands
From their album Distant Drumming (Oct 2008) The Brilliant Mistakes are a New York City-based band who specialize in radiantly melodic roots rock brimming with classic pop songcraft, vintage sounds and lush harmonies. Fronted by two songwriters, Alan Walker and Erik Philbrook, and joined musically at the hip with drummer Paul Mauceri, the group’s new and third album, Distant Drumming (featuring such special guests as Mike Viola of the Candy Butchers and longtime Bob Dylan sideman Larry Camp
Decemberadio: A Cutting Edge Message
Here you will read a blog from a friend of DecemberRadio. At first it may seem like a simple account of what happened at a recent concert, but It really should show you that God is using their music in people lives…and also that HE chooses where to use them…not always because they have the coolest hair or the loudest guitar….it’s because HE chooses to…they will never lose sight of that fact. Here is the Blog… Friday night we had the opportunity to see the group Decemberadio in concert. No stra

Chocolate Salami
Chocolate Salami Posted on Nov 21, 2008 under Desserts, Unbaked sweets, confections | 4 Comments Everyone who bakes regularly once in a while faces a problem of utilizing cake scraps after leveling layers, or/and some chocolate ganache-glaze leftovers. The most efficient and easiest way to get rid of them all at once is to make the dolce salami. This is not a classic Italian recipe required egg yolks but it makes no less delicious salami. The formed log can be popped in the freezer and ke
The Moodists - Engine Shudder
I saw this band play once, they were support to a PIL gig here at festival hall. Fantastic and quite a good pairing with PIl. I have seen Dave Graney many times over the years, the last time early this year was support for the Don't look back, Ed Kuepper Died Pretty gig you can read about here Dave was a bonus that night, a rare solo performance from a living legend. The career of the Moodists can be roughly split into two halves. The first lasted from 1980 to ’85 featuring Turner and the disti
