'Skins Week Twelve Preview: @ Seattle
Starbucks' stock won’t be the only thing falling in Seattle this weekend. More Caffeine, Please: The Redskins, who are coming off their first consecutive losses of the season, will face the Seahawks for the first time since losing to them 35-14 in the Wild Card game last year. And with Seattle only 2-8 in 2008, it’s clear that two of the big reasons behind Seattle’s past success are now on the visitors’ sidelines. Without Jim Zorn as the Seahawks’ quarterback coach, Matt Hasselbeck has the w

Saints RB Bush hoping to face G.B. on Monday
METAIRIE - New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton said running back Reggie Bush, who has missed the last three games after having arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, was further along than a week ago after he practiced Thursday. Bush returned to practice Nov. 12 for the first time since having the knee scoped on Oct. 20, but missed the next two practices and Sunday’s game at Kansas City. Bush seemed optimistic, however, that he’ll be full go for Monday night’s key game with the Green Bay
What’s a Blue Chip Corner Worth?
Maybe a long playoff run. During the bye week, I looked at the woeful run Cowboys run defense and concluded that if any glory was left in the ‘08 Cowboys, it would be Romo-inspired: “It will not win the way the ‘92 team did and it will not win the way the ‘07 Giants did. They got their turnovers under control and rode the defense — Eli’s guys scored 20, 21, 23 and 17 points in their title run. Nobody will ever compare that offense with the ’80s 49ers or the ’90s Cowboys. I’m sure the tea
News and notes from around the NFL
The NFL's Competition Committee will be convened for a special meeting, following the fallout after Sunday's Steelers-Chargers game. The officiating crew did not represent their brethren well in blowing another call which altered the final score. I've heard there was an exchange of $66 million which could have gone the other way if the zebras had made the correct call. I didn't see the game, but have also heard there were three other Steelers touchdowns taken off the board by the officials. NFL
Washington Redskins vs. Seattle Seahawks NFL Betting Odds & Spread
This Sunday the Washington Redskins will look to bounce back from a rough going at home last week against the Cowboys, when the travel to take on the Seattle Seahawks. The Redskins let an early 10-7 lead slip, as they fell just short 14-10, as for the Seahawks they kept to their losing ways, as they lost at home against the Cardinals 20-26. Now the Seahawks don’t have much to play for at 2-8,but a loss for the Redskins would really hurt this team chances of making the playoffs, as they curren
Two Minute Warning: Air Coryell, GSOT, Superfreak and Friends, Part II
Editor’s Note: Apparently, Derek has gone mad this week, dividing his already lengthy column into two parts this week. Part I can be found here. Ten Things We Learned in Week 11 1. The Steelers/Chargers finish likely cost fantasy owners: “The illegal forward pass” at the end of the Steelers/Chargers game not only cost people a ton of money in Las Vegas, but also may short circuited a few owners of the Steeler defense, who could have used the last second touchdown. 2. Portis a Game-Time Decision, Again
Barry Svrluga reports: Redskins Coach Jim Zorn said the decision on whether star running back Clinton Portis - who is battling a sprained left knee - will play Sunday will be left to the hours leading up to the game for the second straight week. "He really is not full-speed," Zorn said. "Would love to see him go, but that'll be game-time."...Please click on the title to continue reading this entry.
On the Field (Briefly) for Practice - 11/21
A lot of things to get squared away before the buses leave to take us to the airport in just a few minutes, so today’s practice update is necessarily bare bones. The headline has to be injuries, I’d think: the only player not present at practice was Marcus Washington. Clinton Portis was doing some light work, as were Anthony Montgomery and Chris Samuels. Coach Zorn called Portis a gametime decision, noting “I thought he’d be more involved today,” but that’s ahead of where he was at this tim

The Redskins got a break, so to speak, this week, when the Seattle Seahawks placed DE Patrick Kerney on Injured Reserve with a shoulder injury. Kerney led the Seahawks with 5 sacks [which doesn't sound like a lot unless you're a Redskins fan]. The Seahawks are 9th in the NFL... read more
Joey Porter’s Bizarre Pit Bull Logic
Joey Porter and Mike Vick: First it was Clinton Portis rushing to the aid of imprisoned former QB Mike Vick, and now, it is mouthy Joey Porter. “All it was was dogs. They act like they don’t even like pit bulls anyway. I got pit bulls, I’ve gotta put them under a different breed just to travel. You can’t fly pit bulls anywhere. So it’s not like cocker spaniels, something they like. They don’t even care for pit bulls.” Not really sure who “they” is. Just a guess, but jail does wonders for Vick,

Smoke Signals: ‘We’ve got to do better’ edition By Spence | November 21, 2008 The Redskins got a break, so to speak, this week, when the Seattle Seahawks placed DE Patrick Kerney on Injured Reserve with a shoulder injury. Kerney led the Seahawks with 5 sacks [which doesn't sound like a lot unless you're a Redskins fan]. The Seahawks are 9th in the NFL in total sacks, which shows they can get after the quarterback — which is a problem for a Redskins offensive line that doesn’t like to block
