Comcast
It is amazing to me that a company the size of Comcast can make such a mess of taking over another system.
If you had TimeWarner Roadrunner service and you live in an area where they are converting from RoadRunner high speed to Comcast high speed, are you in for a treat.
I have talked with several people who found their Internet connection just displaying a Comcast screen advising them to update the software to have their system switch over. The only problem is nothing on the screen worked.
I am already on Comcast high speed and so far there have been no [...]
Reality TV
Comcast SportsNet broadcast its Maryland basketball reality television show, "The Proving Ground," before Friday night's 89-74 overtime win against Vermont, chronicling the team's preparation for the 2008-2009 season. This is what the Terps have proven so far after three ganes: They have a lot more depth in the backcourt than they did a year ago. The improvement of sophomores Adrian Bowie and Cliff Tucker, as well as the addition of freshman Sean Mosley, gives Gary Williams some options if Gr

Ocho Cinco benched The Cincinnati BengALs deactivated receiver Chad Ocho Cinco for Thursday night’s game with the Pittsburgh Steelers for violating a team rule. The BengALs did not specify the violation. Meanwhile, Ben Roethlisberger threw for 243 yards and a touchdown to Heath Miller to lead Pittsburgh to a 27-10 victory in front of the hometown crowd. Ex-Dodger F.P. Santangelo fired by Sacramento radio station
F.P. Santangelo, the onetime Dodgers infielder-outfielder who was named in the December 2007 Mitchell report, has lost his job at Sacramento radio station KHTK/1140. The Sacramento Bee reported Santangelo was let go just short of three years working as a host on a morning drive show. Santangelo told the Bee that he would return for his fifth season with Comcast SportsNet Bay Area in the spring to do pregame and postgame San Francisco Giants work. Santangelo, who batted .197 with one homer in

Lonergan on a Tough Loss
This is Eric checking in from Comcast Center, about a half hour after I finished talking with Vermont Coach Mike Lonergan and standout forward Marqus Blakely. They were understandably downtrodden after losing to Maryland, 89-74, in overtime in heartbreaking fashion. Vermont had a three-point lead with 17 seconds remaining in regulation. Lonergan said he typically likes to foul when up three in the final seconds of a game. He said he probably would have tonight...Please click on the title to cont
Friday/Saturday Megalinks
Friday/Saturday Megalinks Posted by Ken Fang in Ken Fang, Media News | 3:55 am Nov222008 Ken from Fang’s Bites with the megalinks well into the wee hours of Saturday morning. Here’s the deal. When I’m in the home office, I don’t have internet access. When I don’t have internet access, I can’t post an update. Then when I have to drive into Boston at 2 p.m., I get home late. Then when I get a call to pick up someone at the train station, I don’t get back home to blog until late. So I’ll have

Three Up, Three Down
What a crazy night at Comcast, folks. Vermont shot the lights out and led the game with 6.4 seconds left on the clock. Then Greivis Vasquez nails a three-pointer from the corner to tie the score. And just like that, any momentum Vermont had left expired. Maryland outscored the Catamounts, 17-2, in overtime and pulled away for an 89-74 victory. Stat of the night: After shooting 51.9 percent from the field in the second half,...Please click on the title to continue reading this entry.
Innovation on the Net Relies Heavily on ISP Cooperation
This past week has seen two major service announcements in IP voice and video communication that challenge the telcos. Internet big boy Google rolled out voice and video chat integrated with its Gmail webmail service, and FreeRinger announced PC-to-phone calls in partnership with GTalk2VoIP and Talkster. Both services are free, ad supported and share no revenue with telcos like AT&T, Verizon or Comcast. read more
you told us what you want. now we need to make it happen.
we had over 1,100 people fill the survey in less than 12hrs (thanks!!), telling us what content/services we need to add to boxee next. the results so far: which one of these TV networks would you like us to add? HBO 27% (310 votes), Discovery 21% (237 votes), ABC 21% (236 votes) HBO has been making great television for years. The Sopranos, OZ, Rome, The Wire, Six Feet Under, Entourage, etc. so i guess it shouldn’t be a surprise (especially with True Blood generating so much buzz). the BIG
Zoning out at Comcast Center
Those merry band of Maryland hoopsters got off to their first fast start of the season against Vermont. Then the Catamounts -- by the way, does anybody know what a Catamount is? -- went zone. And the Terps zoned out. Leading 16-7 after hitting six of its first seven shots and scoring on seven of its first eight possessions, Maryland has now scored on only two of its last 10 trips and has watched Vermont take a 26-23 lead. Greivis Vasquez, who hit his first three shots, hasn't attempted any
NBA Friday Night Live Thread
26 of 30 teams are in action tonight in the NBA. ESPN brings us a couple of not so great games with Houston vs Washington followed by New Orleans vs Oklahoma City. Being from Oklahoma, this home coming will be bitter sweet for a lot of fans. When Chris Paul was a rookie and the Hornets were playing in Oklahoma City, the fans got very attached to that teams. So instead of watching a great team like New Orleans for 41 games in Oklahoma City, we get the crappy Thunder with their stupid team name.
CC on TV Tonight
Check out the broadcast from Alaska-Anchorage tonight at 9 p.m. on KOAA News First Now (Comcast 9/Digital Channel 247). Saturday’s broadcast is at 9 p.m. on The CW (Comcast 7/Satellite or over-air 57). I plan to blog off the game in between period breaks and will bring you an online-only story after talking to Coach Scott Owens and some players via phone. Unfortunately, with travel expenses being the way they are and the whole late start in the Alaska time zone, this is one road trip that had
Post Cable
I'll put this under "Media" but it may belong more to technology (or personal economics). My introductory rate on cable-TV expires next week (have I really lived here six months?) and I could not find a replacement at a price point that I like. So it is goodbye to Larry Kudlow. I ordered an antenna on Amazon and I intend to live on broadcast, internet and purchased programming. I debated getting the AppleTV box when I moved but found the TiVo handles that task and plays well with cable. So I
My Internet Connection Times Out?
Yah, my internet connection times out. It was doing it a couple of years ago, found it had something to do with AVG anti-virus... uninstalled it and added McAfee no more time outs. McAfee was doing such a bad job of protecting my PC I recently reinstalled AVG 8.0. Thought maybe a new version wouldn't cause my connection to time out. Not a huge problem, but a pain in the :heh: So I got just a vanilla PC connection to the internet via cable (comcast). It hasn't timed out for two years, now that

Skins-Seahawks: 'The Jasons' and DVOA
This weekend, Comcast SportsNet has a new episode of "The Jasons" and, my, the dudes do clean up nicely. Doug Farrar of Football Outsiders fame has been doing something called Smarter Stats for us this fall on The League. Now, I won't lie: sometimes stats can make my hair hurt. But not these stats. Doug's DVOA matchup features Skins at Seahawks. The real questions for Washington are internal, not opponent-based. Can the offense find balance...Please click on the title to continue reading this en
Special
By Keith Uhlich [Special opens today at Manhattan's Sunshine Cinema. Click here for more information. It is also playing on Time/Warner & Comcast Video-on-Demand. Check local listings.] Special is good enough in various particulars that its token theatrical release—nearly three years after its Sundance Film Festival debut—is more than slightly bittersweet. Co-writers/co-directors Hal Haberman and Jeremy Passmore rest their depressive character study on the able shoulders of actor Michael R
Worth Your Time
