Yes, I am a geek
Ok, ok, I admit it. I am a geek. Since we did not have computers when I was a kid (yes I am that old), my interest did not start until I was working in retail and got my first glimpse of, believe it or not, BARCODES.
Yep, that’s what did it. I was working in a Books/Music/Video store when we installed the first computer system with barcodes. I was fascinated with the database system and it is what caused me to jump out and start learning about computers.
I have not been outside since, lol, so this cartoon fits me like [...]

Solid States Drives
This is great! But what will happen to spinning hard disk drives? The solid state is smaller, uses less power and cooling, and is also said to be 250% faster. But what’s even more is the realization that it is also more durable, and less likely to crash…. I have always qualms because I like to move the notebook computers around, or use it in the car, in the plane, where there may be vibrations…. At least there won’t be an issue that the hard disk will crash when you are accessing your data,
Video: Can Psystar take a bite out of Apple?
Video: Can Psystar take a bite out of Apple? ZDNet correspondent Sumi Das talks with Senior Editor Sam Diaz about the brewing suit-countersuit situation between Apple and Psystar. In an effort to quash the sale of Psystar’s cheap Mac OS-running computers and preserve its carefully crafted image and reputation, Apple sued the Miami-based company. Now Psystar has lobbed back a countersuit, claiming that tying […] Author
State Capitol Week in Review From Senator Jimmy Jeffress
Arkansas legislators got a glimpse of the classroom of the future and it was wired with computers and information technology. Students will be plugged into keyboards and monitors while teachers patrol the room trouble shooting and directing the flow of bytes and megabytes. Textbooks and blackboards will be much less important than now. Teachers and students will access lesson plans online. The legislature directed the state’s top technology agency to develop the future classroom when it passe
HuffPo Watch: VPILF.com wank
Y’all know the HuffPo is off my reading list for their UNDERAGE gag (’gag’ being the operative word), but I followed a link, and what did I find? Twonkwaffle David Weiner enthusing about VPILF.com. I’m constantly amazed by people’s foresight. Henry Ford bet against all odds that the car would become a ubiquitous part of American life. Steve Jobs correctly predicted the movement of computers from the laboratory to the home. And now comes a comparable act of sheer genius: www.VPILF.com. […] Bu

AT&T iPhone 3G data tethering plan could be in the works
Apple may just be working on an official solution that would allow iPhone 3G users to use their 3G connection on their laptop or desktop. Apple recently pulled the NetShare application from the AppStore. The iPhone app allowed users to tether their iPhone to their computers, but once AT&T realized they were losing out on potential revenue, the application disappeared from the AppStore. The app-killing move angered one iPhone 3G customer so much that he wrote Apple-head Steve Jobs an email
Walmart Computer Clearance Sales
Walmart has some really good prices on their computers. It always seems like that Walmart is running a computer clearance sale. I just check Walmart.com and visited their computer section on the site and quickly found that they indeed have some really good deals. One thing that I didn’t realize was that Walmart sells Dell computers. This is absolutely awesome news. I really enjoy Dell and I think that their computers are made very well. Walmart has the Dell Inspiron Laptop computer for sale at
Dreaming of HP
HP what are you doing to me? Did you put something in the computers you sent me? Like is there invisible, addicting gases oozing out of them? If there is, please tell me, because weird things are happening. Well, it’s not that weird, but why are you making special appearances in my dreams? Huh?? They’re MY dreams; I’m supposed to be the star – at all times (hence my pillow case) and they’re supposed to be nice.
An Update on Standards
While a lot of attention goes into the CPUs that form the heart of our PCs, some of the biggest changes to the computers we use have much more to do with other standards.

Need Google Apps on Your Desktop? Try GMDesk.
Microsoft has a way of dominating one’s desktop, given its operating system that resides on a number of computers around the world. Tie that in with its desktop applications for email, creating word documents, spreadsheets and presentations, and you see where I’m going here. Google, on the other hand, contends with Microsoft on a different level, veering away from the desktop domination in most regards, arguably focusing on its own core competencies (in a given quarter). So what if you wante
