Van Halen Tour Cancelled?
Rumors are that the Van Halen tour is being canceled due to Eddie Van Halen having issues. What a shame, I really thought this tour might help Eddie, especially with his son Wolfgang playing bass. I know when I saw them back in the late eighties it was Michael Anthony and David Lee Roth who had the issues, but back then Eddie was still spot on.
Hopefully Eddie can get the help he needs. It always makes you wonder “what if”.
What if Eddie could pull himself out of his problems and finish his career in the way Eric Clapton has?

Jarboe - Jarboe, Herself
A haunting voice, a guest spot by Mr. Anselmo, and a new album out on The End Records. We just had to have a word with Jarboe! 1. Be honest…what do you think of SMNnews.com and have you ever been to the site? Yes, I have been to the site! It is full of detail and variety and holds the interest. 2. What’s the worst band you’ve heard in the past few weeks? Hmm. The serious answer is: I‘m not the judge but I’m diplomatic. The playful answer is : If I were to name it, the other worst b
Taylor Swift at CMAs
Apart from talking about her ex Joe Jonas at the 2008 CMA Awards held at the Sommet Center last week in Nashville, Taylor Swift was also nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year. However, the award went to Carrie Underwood. Maybe next time Taylor. You are just 18 after all. She’s got lots of time. She still can’t get off the ex situation though. When she sat down with Mario Lopez for Extra, she said that it was a personal goal to write songs about her exes saying “It’s sort of a personal goa
DEAF COMEDY JAMZ: A Sh*tty Taste: Tiny Tim & Brave Combo's "Girl"
DEAF COMEDY JAMZ is a new (hopefully) weekly feature on music. First up is Rob Baniewicz of the sketch group Meg & Rob. Franklin Mills Mall had "The Wall." Actually, it had two; one on each end of the mile-long stretch. The "used" bin was where I honed my music taste as a grade/high schooler. I was exceptionally cheap, even as a kid, and it was useless for me to buy nice things. With CDs, I'd undoubtedly scratch them minutes after their purchase, rendering the discs unplayable and worthle
But There’s Only One Way…There’s Only One Way To (Live) Blog!!
But There’s Only One Way…There’s Only One Way To (Live) Blog!! November 18th, 2008 That’s right, MYFO Army. Tonight we be live bloggin’ the Minnesota Wild/Pittsburgh Penguins tilt on Versus. W00t! But do not worry, MYFOers…the above reference to the Red Rocker doesn’t mean we have gone off the deep end and outed ourselves as Sammy Hagar fans (except for maybe Van Halen’s Right Now - if that song doesn’t get your juices flowing, you’re dead inside). No, no, no. Just like our devotion to An
Another Wide-Right FG Try Sinks the Bills
Your guest Fixer is Garey G. Ris: The Buffalo Bills sure don’t look like the team that began the season by winning its first four games. A four-game losing streak has dropped Buffalo to 5-5 and muddled its playoff chances. The latest loss came Monday when Cleveland’s Phil Dawson hit a 56-yard field goal in the final two minutes to beat the Bills, 29-27. Buffalo had a chance to win it, but Rian Lindell missed wide right from 46 yards with 38 seconds left, reminding Buffalo fans of the painful m

Disclaimer: Base cards may be depicted as Gold or Black bordered parallels. I just needed the image. Pack 7 UH44 Ryan Sweeny UH128 LaTroy Hawkins UH74 Corey Patterson I actually said, “Hey it’s a Red- oh, it’s Corey Patterson” when I pulled this one. Corey worked hard in September to pull his average up over the Mendoza Line and finish with a .205 average. You have to wonder why he worked in Baltimore and nowhere else. Thankfully for Reds fans, Corey’s a free agent once more. UH166 Ryan
Who are the Redding Brothers? | The Physics of Immortality
One of the Redding Brothers recently showed up at one of the local Social Media and tech groups that meets monthly at Noshville Deli for breakfast. He (sorry I forget which brother it was) passed out his CD to several attendees to listen to (and presumably review). If you don’t know who the Redding Brothers are you may have heard them on 89 or 94 in Nashville. Heres a quick and interesting bio: With acoustic guitar, a dramatic energy, and scruffy, intelligent lyrics - the band has delved into
Fuck Winter, We Want “California Girls”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zc4FXHunHMw Last week, I had the privilege of seeing the Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson live in concert. He played some wonderful stuff (the cuts from Pet Sounds being my personal favorite), and of course, the classic surfin/sunin/funin/lovin/doo-run-runnin hits of their early years (not a personal favorite). While it was all pretty amazing, I couldn’t help but think of this David Lee Roth video the entire time Wilson and his band trudged through “California Girls” —

Might As Well Jump. Jump!
No, this isn’t a post about the rapidly aging David Lee Roth or Eddie Van Halen although I did steal the title from their 1984 hit. Today the boys checked out a place on Kansas Expressway called JumpMania. (It’s at Kansas Expressway and Sunset next to All About Floors. A Quiznos used to be there.) We had passed it many times and the boys always wanted to visit it so we thought today would be a good day to give it a shot. It was $8 apiece for the boys and the non-jumping dad was let in for
How To Win Friends & Influence People In Greenpoint
AKA: Metallicans 1:3 KNOW YOUR METAL Oh, Greenpoint! How I do love thee? Let me count the ways… Actually there are too damned many to count so here are two: Where else in New York City can you buy groceries on a Sunday morning while listening to “Unchained” by Van Halen? The Garden Spot’s very own Garden, that’s where!* What I witnessed last night at a certain wine store on Manhattan Avenue** after meeting a good friend for dinner. I walked into the aforementioned establishment to hear t

Jets-Pats Rivalry Reaches New Heights
Your guest Fixer is David Roth: The rivalry between the New York Jets and the New England Patriots gets its heat from personality issues – the conflict between fan bases of equal and opposite devotion (and periodic loutishness) and the feud between the team’s coaches, who haven’t mustered a convincing handshake in years. All that peripheral drama makes for some engagingly fervid tabloid headlines, but the Jets’ Thursday Night Football win, a comeback-filled 34-31 overtime victory, deserved att

Do you recognize these celebs as they appeared in the year 1984? Pats Jets: To The Victor Goes The Spoils
Bikinis and fast cars, guns and guitars. 500 horses and a Chrysler mill, makes me king of the hill. -David Lee Roth Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! Big game tonight. Really big game. Unchained : David Lee Roth and the Mambo Slammers
I've been catching up on the last two weeks of FiveHundy and thought that I'd belatedly fill in a few details about David Lee Roth's Non Stop Blues Bustin' Mambo Slammers that occupied a chunk of Tim & Michele's shit filled discussion (Episode 187). For those who don't know, Diamond Dave put together a 14 piece band (featuring Edgar Winter on saxophone and keyboards) that played a week of shows at Ballys from October 19-25, 1995. The variety revue featured a number of covers, padded by DLRs sign
Man, That’s A Lot of Horror Movies
Everybody else is doing it, so why not me? Around the end of October, Metro.co.uk released the results of a poll of the best horror movies. Over on Groovy Age of Horror (a very cool site, by the way), Curt Purcell took the list and highlighted the movies he hadn’t seen. Then, Johnny Bacardi did the same thing. I thought it sounded like an interesting way to kill five minutes, so here ya go. I’ve highlighted any movie on the list that I haven’t seen. 1.The Exorcist. William Friedkin (1973
Quick Quick: Feelin' Kinda Diamond Dave
Van Halen's David Lee Roth is one part Gary Busey, one part Yoda, and one part mumbling homeless man. Well, that's kind of the same thing as Gary Busey, now that I think about it. In this vintage clip from Entertainment Tonight, Roth tells us how he turned monkey hour into a career. And, just so we're all on the same page here, he's got class! See:
Paul Gilbert Interview
When Billy Sheehan left David Lee Roth’s band in 1988, he joined with Paul Gilbert, who had left his former band, Racer X. They founded Mr. Big, with Pat Torpey on drums and singer Eric ...
