Hillary Clinton

This hurts, really hurts, but, I have to give credit where credit is due.
It is obvious that Hillary Clinton learned some things from Bill. Former President Bill Clinton understood how to work a crowd and give a speech, and now Hillary shows the rest of the candidates how to connect with the new Internet generation. Her Soprano’s Spoof video was excellent and has certainly led to a lot of attention via the Internet.
Not sure that her selection of a Celine Dion tune was the right choice though.

John Kerry says Military people are not educated?

Once again, looks like John Kerry is the best thing for the Republicans. Kerry insulted anyone in the United States Military by saying…
“education, if you make the most of it and you study hard, you do your homework and make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don’t you get stuck in Iraq.” Source : John Kerry
According to some reports, Kerry just messed up a punch line. And that is believable, but, what he said was probably what he was thinking. And now it seems he has upset both Democrats and Republicans and cancelled [...]

Totally unbias humor, ya gotta love it.

A new Political Network?

This sounds like an excellent idea. I thought I might be the only blogger on the planet with these feelings, Thanks Political Football !
The answer to your question is NO, you are NOT the only one who is sick of Party Politics. Political FootBall echoes your sentiments. Heck, maybe we can even start our own political network. A network that began with just two reasonable bloggers who are fed up with the status quo and willing to make a stand.
Come on people. There has to be more of us out there. Are you with us?

Sick of Party Politics

Am I the only person sick of Party politics?
Yes, I think one party is better than the other, and I probably agree with 70 - 80% of their platform. But the rhetoric and bashing is driving me crazy. It seems nothing is about what people want anymore, it’s about which party can smear, attack and destroy the other side.
I would like to see one day, just one, where no one in the United States says the words Republican or Democrat. If you think someone is making a bad decision or is doing something stupid, then say that, without using the [...]

Rick Melita Now Working For Chris Donovan

Rick Melita, one of the best-known union representatives at the state Capitol, has moved into the corridors of power by starting to work for incoming House Speaker Chris Donovan. Known for often wearing purple at the Legislative Office Building, Melita has spent the past 14 years working for the Connecticut State Employees Association, SEIU, Local 2001. When he is not working the hallways at the Capitol, he sometimes shows up on the television news as a familiar figure on picket lines for vari

Obama has big plans for big gym in the White House, maybe

Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Democratic President-elect Barack Obama seem to becoming real pals. Earlier this week, as noted on The Ticket, Obama did a video for the Gov's Beverly Hills climate change conference in one of the most comfortable places on earth to talk about such uncomfortable things. (See below.) And today, Schwarzenegger tells Fox News in an interview that the two have talked about body-building and maybe a future job. What began as a conversation about Cali

Maziarz For Byron Brown

Sen. George Maziarz crossed party lines today and urged Governor Paterson to pick Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown, a Democrat, to succeed Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton if she leaves to take a job in the Obama administration. Maziarz said it would be important for upstate New York to have a statewide representation who understands upstate’s plight. “I’m tired of every statewide elected official talking about upstate and never really stepping up to the plate and doing something for upstate,” said Mazia

Municipal League of King County makes an odd endorsement choice

[I was forbidden to blog during the 2008 campaign, so this is less timely than I would like it to have been... Oh well.] The Municipal League of King County has a really noble mission. They rate candidates for political office, giving voters more information while subjecting the political process to a modicum of quality control. They do a pretty good job of it, too. Candidates gripe about their ratings (”Good” isn’t as good as “Very Good,” while “Outstanding” is the very best), but all in al

Rationalizing the Anti-Gay Vote

Despite its seemingly liberal-esque name, The Tallahassee Democrat is anything but. So it’s perhaps not surprising that one of its columnists wrote a piece that seems on the surface to be a well-considered view of the other side of the coin on Florida’s own recent vote to enshrine anti-gay bigotry in our state constitution. Bill Coterell, who writes as the “Capitol Curmudgeon,” penned “Gay-marriage defense faces an uphill battle” for publication in the state capital’s newspaper today. He begi

Ha ha! I knew this 18 months ago!

I told many of my friends back in 2007 that I thought Subodh might be angling for this. He was virtually the first person I knew around here who was actively supporting Obama. He has been a good, faithful Democrat, hosting fundraisers for a whole array of Ohio candidates. He also took a major role in 2006 in fighting Ken Blackwell's efforts to obfuscate election rules with his unclear or nonexistent directives. I recall him holding a press conference outside the Cuyahoga County BoE on the eve of

Thursday, November 20, 2008  To: Friends & Supporters From: Gary L. Bauer Al Qaeda Thug Uses Racial Slur Against Obama  A new statement by Al Qaeda’s deputy leader, Ayman Al-Zawahiri, using a racial slur to attack President-elect Barack Obama as well as other high-level black Americans, has shocked the incoming administration. Osama bin Laden and Al-Zawahiri are well known for their hate-filled diatribes against America, regularly released on Al Qaeda-controlled websites around the worl

Fannie and Freddie Suspend Foreclosures into January 2009

"So far the Federal Government has only had to pass one Bailout Bill for the Banks to get their help (and everyone else who does not deserve it) and just one Bailout Bill to help out the most back-ass-wardly managed industry in the nation - the forever tank-bukding, electric car killing, anti-gas efficiency Auto contingency - but somehow it is taking 4 or five programs to help a fraction of the taxpayers at risk of foreclosure."

Napolitano Nomination for Homeland Security--national and Arizona implications

It appears all but certain that the Obama administration will name Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano as chief of Homeland Security. Before getting to what kind of Homeland Security chief she will make or the political implications this has here in Arizona, I'd like to discuss what kind of a Governor Janet Napolitano has been. I actually went to High School at the same school she went to in Albuquerque (just missed being there at the same time) and I've watched her govern Arizona in an extraord

Waxman at Energy & Commerce

My colleague Cord asked me about proposing a tech agenda for Congress given the ascendancy today of Henry Waxman to Energy and Commerce Chairmanship; my immediate answer was “Adjourn.” Anyway, the big news is that Rep Henry Waxman challenged John Dingell for Energy and Commerce Committee chairmanship, and won. E&C has jurisdiction over, well, everything. Waxman has been a member of Congress since 1975, reminding us of the saliency of term limits. What matters, one might argue, is not th

It ain’t so, Joe

Joe Kenney, the erstwhile GOP nominee for governor, has chosen to vent his disappointment in various New Hampshire Republicans in an op-ed in the Union Leader. Let us go through his points. He says, “From the beginning, the state Republican Party backed away from challenging Gov. John Lynch. When I made my decision to run, Lynch was on the verge of a free ride. Republicans suggested he might end up the Republican nominee. I could not stand on the sidelines and watch this happen.” When Molly K

Soares vs. the city, volume MCXIIVVI

Fresh off a caustic, if not particularly taxing, re-election campaign, Albany County District Attorney David Soares unveiled today plans for a Vehicular Crimes Unit to more aggressively pursue drunk drivers. It may not surprise the dedicated news watchers among you that Soares seems intent on pursuing his plans with — or without — the help of the city and its police department. In making his announcement, Soares specifically cited concerns about drunk driving surrounding the city’s Alive at F

Waxman takes over key House chairmanship from Dingell

By Michael J.W. Stickings From The Hill: Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) will become the next chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee after House Democrats voted to replace current Chairman John Dingell (D-Mich.). Waxman won 137-122 in the secret ballot vote. Why is this important? First, because Waxman is significantly more progressive than Dingell. Second, and more specifically, because Dingell, long a major defender of the Detroit-based auto industry, has been an obstacle to aggr

Boehner: GOP Firmly Against ‘Card Check’

Posted by GOP Leader Press Office on November 20th, 2008 Featured in tomorrow’s Washington Times: House Republican Leader John A. Boehner said Democrats’ use of secret ballots to chose its leadership was ironic because the party wants to nix workers’ rights to a secret voting in deciding whether to unionize. “The secret ballot election is a cornerstone of our American democracy,” Mr. Boehner, Ohio Republican, said Thursday. “If it is good enough for House Democrats to rely on during today’s

Auto Bailout: "Going Off A Cliff?"

ABC's Zach Wolf from DC: With a whirlwind set of press conferences, supposed deals, nixed deals and frustration over whether to bail out the auto industry with $25 billion in low-interest loans or take the chance of letting it go bust, the Congress's lame duck session keeps getting longer and longer. Early this afternoon came word that lawmakers from states big into the US auto industry had crafted a bipartisan deal to take $25 billion Congress already appropriated to lend the auto industry

Did the Vermont Progressive Party win a State Senate seat?

Posted at Ballot Access News Reporting on partisan victories is sometimes a complicated affair, especially in states that allow fusion. On November 4, Tim Ashe was elected to the Vermont State Senate from the Chittenden County district, which elects six Senators. Ashe was on the ballot as “Democrat, Progressive.” Vermont, California, and Massachusetts allow fusion and use office-group ballots. That means a candidate with two party nominations is only listed once on the ballot. The party the

Recount spin, Day 2

Attorneys and staffers for Republican Sen. Norm Coleman and Democratic challenger Al Franken today spoke to the media and said they're happy with the outcome of Recount Day 1. Andy Barr, spokesman for the Franken campaign, said the campaign has reason to be confident with the results that came in after Wednesday count. Cullen Sheehan, campaign manager for the Coleman campaign, said they too have reasons to feel pretty good -- they expected to come out worse in the day one count. The Franken c
