Dorothy Hamill Haircut

Is everything going retro, or am I just getting that old. I swear I have seen a couple young ladies with a Dorothy Hamill Haircut recently. Of course, I guess this should not surprise me. They don’t want to admit it, but a lot of the hairstyles today are retro hairstyles.
And the music is the same way, I hear kids all the time talking about Classic Rock bands like they were just discovered. Hey, did you hear the NEW Aerosmith song, it’s the bomb man !

I totally stole this from Dutchiestyle. I can’t believe I remember all of this 70s stuff!!!!! You had that Fisher Price Doctor’s Kit with a stethoscope that actually worked. You owned a bicycle with a banana seat and a plastic basket with flowers on it. You learned to skate with actual skates (not roller blades) that had metal wheels. Kira Craft: Do-It-Yourself Haircuts

I have the same haircut now as I did when I was three. This wasn't intentional -- I found out by accident as I was rummaging through an old box of photos recently. This amusing coincidence probably would never have happened if I hadn't started cutting my own hair. Hair at age 3....and at age 34 (Photo by Joshua Richey) Do-it-yourself hair began about a year ago for me. One morning in the bathroom I caught my reflection in the medicine cabinet mirror and realized that I looked entirely unl

Dorothy Hamill

Dorothy Hamill was the 1976 Olympic figure skating champion.   She is credited with developing a new skating move; a camel spin that turns into a sit spin, which became known as the “Hamill camel.” The bobbed hairstyle that she wore during her Olympic performance started a fad. (There are pictures of me with this haircut, how about you?) On January 4, 2008, Ms. Hamill announced that she was being treated for breast cancer at Johns Hopkins.  She has since returned to touring with Broadway on I

TV's influence

A post on Willow's blog about loving your ten year old self got me thinking... I was just starting the awkward stage in 1977. Suddenly, being the "smart girl" was no longer cool in grade school. Even at age 10, appearance was starting to matter. In 1976, Dorothy Hamill won an Olympic gold medal for figure skating and caused a sensation with her hairstyle. One year later, and half the girls in school had a Hamill cut.... the other half, had Farrah bangs. I, of course, had neither. (I also never m

Top Haircut Episode Four - Curlyphobia

On the last episode of Top Haircut, Charlie won (again), and Matt mentioned his wife once or twice before being sent home to reunite with her. This week’s Shear Genius opens in the salon, where Jaclyn welcomes the hairtestants and introduces this week’s guest judge, Roy Teeluck. Mr. Teeluck is the Editorial Director for Nexxus, has a fancy accent, and has many helpful hints on having healthy hair. I know this because he says so in commercials. For this week’s Shortcut Challenge, the stylists

Nostalgia

I got an email over the weekend which brought on a bunch of memories... I'm sure if you were a little girl in the 70's you'll remember some of these. You had that Fisher Price Doctor's Kit with a stethoscope that actually worked. You owned a bicycle with a banana seat and a plastic basket with flowers on it. (and streamers on the handles! My bike was midnight blue with metal flakes. It was sooo cool!) You learned to skate with actual skates (not roller blades) that had metal wheels. (and le
