Dallas Cowboys clinch Playoff berth !

Thanks to Tony Romo and Marion Barber III I have a reason to watch NFL football for the rest of the year (while I wait for Nascar to start up again!). Although I will admit that I would keep watching the New Orleans Saints too !
Being a Drew Bledsoe fan the move to Romo was hard to watch at first, but, this kid looks like the real deal. And Marion Barber has certainly been playing at a top notch level.
Go Dallas Cowboys !

Fins: All-time turnarounds

The 1999 Indianapolis Colts hold the record for the greatest win increase of any team in NFL history: 10 games. The Dolphins would match that record if they go 5-1 the rest of the way. x Some of the more impressive recent turnarounds: x 1999 St. Louis Rams (from 4-12 to 13-3) Reason: The unveiling of "The Greatest Show on Turf," led by former grocery store stocker Kurt Warner and Marshall Faulk. x 1999 Indianapolis Colts (from 3-13 to 13-3) Reason: A more mature Peyton Mann

Cool Drew Brees

There we do just as we please.  It ain’t nothin’ but a breeze.  -Jimmy Buffet Public Service Announcement:  Ok, here we go!  The New Orleans Saints did what they needed to do.  They played to win the game.  They succeeded.  They beat a struggling Kansas City Chiefs squad who have won only one game all season.  Poor Herm Edwards:  “I don’t care if you don’t have any wins.  You go play to win.  When you start tellin’ me it doesn’t matter, then retire.  Get out!  ’Cause it matters!” It matters

It's not even a preview of a good game. Both of these teams enter the game at 2-7 and just thinking about the results has me thinking this was actually an XFL game. The playoff successes, the Super Bowls, the excitement of the very next game... all of that is long gone for both of these NFC West Bottom Dwellers. Sure, the Rams-4

Finished Going Through A Collection

Yesturday a friend of mine asked if I would go through a small collection they have had for a few years to see if they had anything good.  When I received the package there was a shoebox just full of cards from the 80’s and 90’s.  The corners were beat and some of the cards were even bent.  I went through the box and separated it by sports.  Getting closer to the bottom of the box, I discovered a handful of cards in top loaders.  As I started shifting though them I received a huge blast from the

Game Notes: Patriots 31 - Jets 34

The New England Patriots turned in an impressive outing against the New York Jets last night at Gillette Stadium. Had the Pats not put themselves in a hole early, New England — not New York — would sit alone atop the AFC East standings. One very clear lesson was learned by New England last night. Never giving up means that the Patriots - even without Tom Brady — can come back late in a game against a good opponent to compete to the very end. Plenty will be written about this contest, but

Jets-Patriots: The Rant

Before I get to my main post, go check out this AFC East Roundtable, focusing on the Jets-Pats game. I offer some thoughts in that article, as well as several other writers. But it is just over one day until kickoff, and I for one am amped up. So let’s get to the game. But first, I’d like to get one thing out of the way. I hate the New England Patriots. I hate Bill Bellichick. I hated Tom Brady. I hate the way they are still winning games (including over the Jets) with a guy who hasn’t star

FSD History Flashback: November 12, 1995

Make photo slide shows at www.OneTrueMedia.com Hello, I'm David Funk, and welcome to another edition of FSD History Flashback for November 12. Today's FSD History Flashback is about one man passing his way into the history books in the NFL. On November 12, 1995, the Miami Dolphins hosted the New England Patriots. The Dolphins were coming off a win against the San Diego Chargers while the Patriots just beat the Jets. Going into the game, Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino needed only 38 passing

Adam Bender (Photo) - An Inspiration To Many

Adam Bender is an 8-year-old boy from Lexington, Ky. Adam loves soccer, baseball and football and plays all of these sports. But Adam Bender only has one leg after having his leg removed at the age of 1 due to cancer. Read more on Adam Bender below. ESPN’s Schaap and the producers met with Bender’s family this summer and have watched Adam play catcher on his Little League team, as well as quarterback on the flag-football team. “Adam Bender is totally fearless,” Schaap said. Adam is ab

Silver Lining: Edwards Remains a Good Guy

Marshawn Lynch Amid the anguished finger-pointing, plaintive wailing and resigned head-shaking sweeping the region following the Buffalo Bills’ third straight defeat, Season Ticket would like to apportion a minute sliver of credit. Quarterback Trent Edwards, by most quantitative and qualitative standards, failed miserably at New England on Sunday (not coincidentally, this was also his third consecutive regressive outing). He did not throw accurately or effectively, throwing two grotesque int

Game Notes: Patriots 20 - Bills 10

The New England Patriots used the balanced attack of two first-year NFL starters, Matt Cassel and BenJarvus Green-Ellis, to knock off the Buffalo Bills Sunday in Foxboro. New England won the AFC East battle 20-10 to improve to 6-3 on the season and retain a share of the division lead with the New York Jets who also won on Sunday. Here are some notes from the game courtesy Patriots media relations: WELKER SETS NFL RECORD WITH NINTH STRAIGHT GAME WITH 6+ CATCHES TO BEGIN SEASON On a 12-yard

Pats Success: Brady or Belichick?

When the season commenced, we were expecting big things from the Pats. Would they make a return trip to the Super Bowl? Would the Tom Brady-Randy Moss Express become even more prolific? Could they have another undefeated regular season? All valid questions. Until Tom Brady injured his knee week one against the Chiefs. Then, panic struck. They can’t make the playoffs. Who’s Matt Cassel? Why is this the first time he’s started since high school? Season is over. Fast Forward 10 weeks, and we ha

Vittatoe and some defense

Here's a good combination, if you can do it, and UTEP did Saturday: Score all the time and have some defensive stops. That will beat everybody. Plus, UTEP sophomore quarterback Trevor Vittatoe played like a pro-to-be, and the defense came close to what it was pencilied in to do at the start of the season. UTEP won at Louisiana Lafayette 37-24, to go 4-5. UTEP scored six straight times, five of them touchdowns, on possessions between early in the first quarter and late in the fourth quarter.

He is so money - part four of five

Everyone has them. Well, every male 18-79 has them. Those athletes that have won them a sexy stash of cash, and thus become the object of same male 18-79’s affection. Forever, in some cases. They can change sporting franchise, they can change country, they can change their name, doesn’t matter, the besotted male is going to always have a place for them in their heart. You know the guys we’re talking about here. You know the situation too. You had a stack of cash on a team, but the opposition is

Set Spotlight::::Upper Deck football....and some comments on the hobby

A busy spring and summer has curtailed my card trading, although for some reason I keep buying cards. I guess the main hassle involved is that they're mostly low-end products. I'd noticed it before, but as I've tried to get back into the trading groove online the last couple weeks, it's hard because 99 percent of traders post on trade sites looking for autos and patches and Lettermen cards, or cards of that level and seemingly ONLY that level. Don't get me wrong, I love that stuff too. Check my

No Brad Johnson Bashing

CBS 11 sports reporter and Mr. Do It All Steve Dennis co-hosts a radio show with Terrell Owens on Tuesday nights from the House of Blues in downtown Dallas. On his set up during the show he said they were going to try not to let the show become a Brad Johnson bashing session. "Not on my show," Owens told Dennis. What a shame. Owens has made a living killing quarterbacks  - Jeff Garcia, Donovan McNabb, Drew Bledsoe, etc. - but he's not taking the bait on Johnson. Maybe a few more two-catch games

if i weren't so damn old

I hate live music. It's always too loud, too crowded, too late, too something. I'd really rather stick pins in my eyes than go see a band. I guess it's because I am 100 years old. There's a place here in Philly that has live music all the time; here's a lineup of bands coming in the next several weeks: 10/31: The Sisters of Mercy. That song that goes 'hey now, hey now now, something this corrosion, hey now' is awesome. 11/6: Matthew Sweet. I saw him in 1992 (!) at the Paradise in Bosto

Terrible Fantasy Offenses For 2008

Terrible Fantasy Offenses For 2008 By Daniel Freer Flashback: August 2008… You were sitting with your fantasy buds, discussing the upcoming season. You, or one of your buds, said something like: “Yeah, that Washington State QB is gonna be a fantasy sleeper!” It’s wake up time. Your Washington State QB (or any of the Washington State QBs) just did not pan out. While the Texas Tech’s, Tulsa’s, Oklahoma’s, and the Mizzou’s of the world delivered their abundance of fantasy talent…some school

Projo PatsTalk with Shalise -- If Brady's return is delayed, what do the Pats do next year?

Click the play button below to hear Shalise Manza Young's comments, recorded this morning. She discusses the challenges facing Brandon Meriweather and other defensive backs as they try to fill the void left by the injury to Rodney Harrison, how the Patriots backfield will play this weekend without Sammy Morris, possible options for the Patriots at quarterback this offseason, and what to expect from the Rams, another one of those confounding NFL teams. Here's an excerpt from what Sha
