Flags of our Fathers
I tried to watch this movie last night. I fell asleep.
I am sure the meaning of everything going on was too deep for me, but the movie just moved way to slow and jumped around too much to keep my interest.
I did watch and enjoy Man of the Year. Robin Williams is still going strong after all these years and the beginning of the movie really struck a chord with me.

One of the reasons we loved the Carbon was its availability with or without speakers. Here, in response to Nate’s excellent remark, my aim was not to suggest that psychoanalysis became a pre-occupation of a Marxist praxis, but rather to account for a certain strain of French Marxist theory characterized by figu

The Pledge Project: The Moral Irrelevance of Location
A constitutional right to engage in some action does not imply that it is right to engage in that action. You have a constitutional right to write a book denouncing Jews and arguing that they should be rounded up and shipped off to Israel. However, the fact that you have this right does not imply that there is nothing wrong with making such a claim. The fact that something is not unconstitutional does not imply that it is not immoral. Slavery was once a constitutional right. One would be hard pr

there is a new blogging network called The Liberty Tree beginning in preparation for the new administration. read about it below: Do you remember The Liberty Tree and the story that surrounds it? Will you meet me under the Liberty Tree?

It was a beautiful old tree that became a real rallying point – a symbol really - for the growing resistance to the rule of England over the feisty American colonies. Changeling and Clint Eastwood’s Old-Fashionedness
Something occurred to me while watching ‘Changeling’ yesterday - Clint Eastwood’s films are very old-fashioned. He just tells stories, linear narratives with sparing flashbacks (his most recent three or four films in particular have had a penchant for returning to the scene of the crime long after it happened). This is not a criticism. It means that sometimes (‘Flags of our Fathers’ – young men being used as propaganda tools by the US Government, ‘Unforgiven’ – an old gunslinger regretting t

THEATRICAL REVIEW: QUANTUM OF SOLACE (2008)
What Is It About? The 22nd James Bond picks up immediately after CASINO ROYALE, with James Bond (Daniel Craig) after an environmentalist (Mathieu Amalric). Who Made It? Director Marc Forster is best known for MONSTER’S BALL. He also directed EVERYTHING PUT TOGETHER, FINDING NEVERLAND, the underrated STAY, STRANGER THAN FICTION and THE KITE RUNNER. It was written by Paul Haggis, writer of CASINO ROYALE. He has also written and or directed everything from episodes of DIFF’RENT STROKES and THE
Quantum Of Solace: The Decision ‘08 Review
Quantum Of Solace: The Decision ‘08 Review Well, well, well…this is a tough review to write. I am tempted to write a two-word review: don’t bother. Yet I feel compelled to add a little meat to that and say why not to. Regulars know I am a true movie buff, and as such, I can be quite forgiving…a terrible script can be forgiven, for example, if fine acting and great craftsmanship make for a fun ride, anyway. This latest Bond, though, has disappointment written all over it. It will, of cour
Eastwood and Spielberg on thriller
Clint Eastwood is in talks to direct the supernatural thriller Hereafter for Dreamworks. The company is led by Steven Spielberg and Stacey Snider, picked up the spec penned by Frost/Nixon screenwriter Peter Morgan in March when it was still a part of Paramount Pictures. Dreamworks held onto the project as part of its separation pact with the Melrose studio and has been wooing Eastwood to board the project for months. The details of the plot are being kept under wraps, but it is described a

Clint Eastwood Directing 'Sixth Sense' Style Thriller?
After tackling World War II with Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima Clint Eastwood moved farther back in time to the 1930s with Changeling and he will jump back to the future with Gran Torino with a Dirty Harry style character that no likey the neighbors. So to say I didn't expect his next flick to be a thriller described as in the same vein as M. Night Shyamalan's The Sixth Sense would be a lie, but I am definitely intrigued. Variety tells us the film is titled Hereafter and outsi
Clint Eastwood and Steven Spielberg Team Up for Hereafter
Steven Spielberg's newly independent DreamWorks is in talks with Clint Eastwood to direct a supernatural thriller titled Hereafter. Unfortunately no actual details about the story have been revealed yet, except that it has been described as "in the vein of The Sixth Sense." As we all know, Eastwood directed two complete films this year alone - Changeling and Gran Torino - but he's not retiring from directing just yet. DreamWorks adamantly held onto this project during their split with Paramoun
JFK - Rush to Judgement & Final Judgement
The 45th anniversary of the assassination of John Kennedy is almost upon us. Nov. 22, 1963 is one of the most important dates in our history. It could be argued that it was the day the last vestige of hope for America died. For those who like to burn audio book CD's, here's an interesting 1967 recording of 'witnesses' interviewed by Mark Lane. From RecordBrother, sides 1 & 2 can be downloaded in mp3 format here. After John F. Bond Week: Jay Leno Drives Bond's Aston Martin DBS
I want one! One of the many things that James Bond is known for is, of course, amazing cars. In Quantum of Solace he drives a black Aston Martin DBS, one of the sleekest and best English sports cars around. This isn't the first time Bond's driven an Aston Martin, that was back in 1964 in Goldfinger, where he drove a DB5. Anyway, let's get down to the point - this car is a beauty and I want one. But because I don't have $250k just laying around, we'll let car aficionado Jay Leno show us the rop

NCAA homestretch edition... 1. Watching Texas Tech play is like riding a roller coaster every week. 2. How come they're Connecticut in football, but UConn in basketball? 3. How on earth did Northwestern win seven games? They run one play on offense, the quarterback keeper. Once you figure that out, they're done. Tressel figured it out midway through the second quarter, and that was it. 4. Hey, college basketball season started! Who knew? Duke played Presbyterian Monday...are they goi
