Addidas and Reggie Bush know how to advertise.
Reggie Bush got some extra headlines this week for the $10,000 fine levied on him by the NFL for wearing Addidas cleats in last weeks pre season game.Just goes to show that Addidas may have figured out what The Golden Palace casino learned a long time ago. A different way to advertise.
The NFL only allows players to wear Nike or Reebok shoes during games. So how is another shoe company supposed to make good on endorsements it has with football players? Simple, have them wear your shoes and pay the fine.
Basically Addidas just paid $10,000 for a whole lot of [...]
Matt Leinart finally signed
The first-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals signed a six-year contract.Out of 255 players taken in this years NFL Draft, Leinhart was the last to agree to a contract. Financial terms were not disclosed, but you can be assured it was way too much. ESPN reported that the contract was worth a max of $50 million, yes, $50 million. When the 10th overall pick and the second quarterback taken is worth $50 million there is something out of whack. No wonder the average family can not afford to go to a football game. And how does the 10th pick get almost [...]

Cowboys sign Williams
The Dallas Cowboys signed Roy Williams to an extension, and that is good news. But, if you read between the lines you will see the bad news. America’s Team is in some real trouble on the marketing (players) front.
“He probably is the second-most visible player we’ve got on this team right now, Terrell (Owens) being the first,” Cowboys owner-general manager Jerry Jones said of Williams after the morning practice in Oxnard, Calif. “Roy through his play brings leadership and basically will be one of the main signatures on our defense.” - Jerry Jones
Oh boy, if Terrell Owens is the most [...]

Poppy or no poppy
We seem to live in a very adversial and ironic society at the minute. After the furore of our cousins’ racist ramblings, Celtic fans are now in the firing line for the use of the word ‘IRA’ at recent away games and the use of the poppy during remembrance services before last Saturdays football games. The fact that Celtic fans are being targeted should come as no surprise. Rangers fans were being hammered (and rightly so) for their horrifically untasteful ‘famine song’ so it was a matter of time
Ramblings; Or Something That Started Coherently But Didn’t End That Way
November 13, 2008 in Alabama Football, College Football, Random Thoughts, SEC Football | Tags: Big Twelve South, Georgia Football, LSU, Missouri, Oklahoma Football, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas Tech After one of the best games, and overall experiences surrounding a game, this past weekend in Baton Rouge, I’m not sure why all the negativity I’ve been reading and hearing this week has gotten to me, but it has. Finebaum, amongst others, thinks that LSU and their fans are scum. I’ve read and h

Kansas City Chiefs Agree to Terms with DE Jason Babin, add LB to PS
The Chiefs have added a former first round DE to the mix. At this point I am just hoping that he is serviceable. KC Chiefs dot com Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Wednesday that the club has agreed to terms of a one-year contract with DE Jason Babin. No other terms of the agreement were made available. Babin (6-3, 260) has seen action in 47 games (22 starts) with Houston (2004-06) and Seattle (2007-08). He has registered 147 tackles (100 solo), 13.0 sacks (-85.0 yards
Repo the Genetic Opera
Little Shop of Horrible Repo the Genetic Opera / Brian Prisco When Repo! The Genetic Opera touts itself as an original and daring premise -- a horror rock opera -- it's whistling the wrong tune. It's been done before, in every single solitary way, in every facet of the production, and it's been done better. Name the game: rock opera (Tommy), horror musical (Sweeney Todd), gory slashfest (Dead Alive), killer surgeons (Dr. Giggles), even dystopian future (Blade Runner). The film ends up a bo
A Complaint Has Been Lodged . . .
November 12, 2008 I’ve been informed by my ridiculously successful and normally complaint-free cousin, Tara, that it’s a drag to look at Ted Danson’s head every time you come to visit this blog and realize nothing has changed. I’m not surprised that this is the case and so I’m here to fix it. What happened to my desire to blog? I’ve got no flipping idea. I guess I’ve been trying to live life somewhere other than in front of the computer screen. It eventually becomes lonely here, hour afte
John Madden and the Turducken: A Marketing Enigma
John Madden and the Turducken: A Marketing Enigma Love him or hate him, John Madden, one of the goofiest and most quoted characters in football history, has evolved into one of the most powerful brand names in football ,video games and even Thanksgiving dinner. His three fascinations all start with the letter "F":Football, Favre and Food If you're not familiar with the famous former coach and commentator, here are some of his most memorable quotes from live NFL broadcasts. I like to call his
Random Ramblings
• There are moments of everyone’s life that you regret but they are generally not broadcast for millions of people to see. One such moment occurred on Monday’s The Price Is Right. The episode was taped in September and a college student made it on the stage. Just before spinning the wheel, Drew Carey gave the student, who was wearing a "Block O" Ohio State T-shirt and a buckeye necklace, the microphone. The student shared his excitement about how Ohio State would beat USC the next day. USC

Goodbye Trenni, Hello Willie.
Let’s start things off on an attainably cute note: Doesn’t it seem like every time you begin to fall in love, she leaves you for an upstart network? Wisconsin native, and all-around class act, Trenni Kusnierek has confirmed reports that she will be leaving FSN Wisconsin as of Jan. 1, 2009. Though she’s apparently not allowed to name her new network at this time, it’s believed she will be part of the forthcoming MLB Network. This season, her first as a Brewers broadcaster, Kusnierek’s skill m
Sunday Holywood Park picks
Sunday Holywood Park picks 9 11 2008 Yesterday was a pretty crazy day overall. Not only was the action hit-or-miss me over at Hollywood, but we had undefeated Penn State going down to Iowa, and my beloved Crimson Tide in a dogfight for their lives against a tenacious LSU team that you could tell was pinning it’s whole season on pulling the upset. For the record, when it comes to college football - I have a heart attack whenever my kicker takes the field. The pressure gets to me and I becom

Random Friday Ramblings
Getting a house ready to sell continues to be a pain.++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Last Friday night, Summers Field in my hometown of Barnesville, Georgia hosted its last football game. The Lamar County Trojans will begin play in a new stadium next season. Summers Field was for many years the home of the Gordon Military High School and Gordon Military College Bulldogs. When I was a boy I would attend the high school games on Friday nights and the college games on Satur
November 4th: More Than Just Election Day
There are 57 days remaining until the end of the year. That means 2009 is right around the corner. Before 2009, though, three very important dates will pass: First, my birthday. We all know how important birthdays are, right? Second, Christmas. I have always loved Christmas. It’s my favorite time of year. Between a birthday and Christmas, you really can’t go wrong. Third, I will be graduating. Finally. I have worked so hard to finish up my Smith degree, and I just can’t wait to be d
So here's the thing...
I'm rather obsessive by nature and can easily become completely consumed by items of interest. Now, for the better part of the last 3 or 4 years, knitting has been able to feed this obsession. Shopping for yarn, choosing patterns, blog reading, casting on and, of course, actual knitting has kept my pretty busy. Until lately. My rather neurotic, yet peaceful fibery world has been interrupted in the most dramatic of ways by, of all things, politics. I have become completely, intolerably captivate
Mondays are for homeowner ramblings..
The long October transition is over and at least we are in our house, in our church, and right now I am sitting in my office. Hopefully life will begin to take on some normalcy these next couple of weeks. But it is Monday and it is time for some serious ramblings. I am getting back into the blogging world full force this week. Later in the week i even hope to have a video blog to show life here in Indiana. What is more important a football game or an election? Barack Obama spent a kazillion
