Brett Favre Retires

After 17 years Brett Favre retires, no really. I hate to say it, but the first thing that comes to my mind is that I am old. I clearly remember when Brett Favre came into the NFL as an Atlanta Falcon. And think about that, after one year in Atlanta they traded Brett Favre to the Green Bay Packers for a 17th round pick, can you say OOPS.

Being a Dallas Cowboy fan it is pretty obvious that I am not a Green Bay Packer fan, however, if there is one guy I really respect in Pro sports, it is Brett Favre. He does not always make the perfect play, and he never seemed to be the ultimate example of a NFL Quarterback, but he always gets the job done.

With all the comparisons being made from Tony Romo to Brett Favre I can only hope they materialize. If Romo can be half the quarterback Favre was, we have something to look forward to.

Good luck Brett with whatever you do in the future, and thanks for all the exciting football you gave the fans!

We will certainly see you in the Football Hall of Fame real soon.

Dallas Cowboys clinch Playoff berth !

Thanks to Tony Romo and Marion Barber III I have a reason to watch NFL football for the rest of the year (while I wait for Nascar to start up again!). Although I will admit that I would keep watching the New Orleans Saints too !

Being a Drew Bledsoe fan the move to Romo was hard to watch at first, but, this kid looks like the real deal. And Marion Barber has certainly been playing at a top notch level.

Go Dallas Cowboys !

Addidas and Reggie Bush know how to advertise.

Reggie Bush got some extra headlines this week for the $10,000 fine levied on him by the NFL for wearing Addidas cleats in last weeks pre season game.Just goes to show that Addidas may have figured out what The Golden Palace casino learned a long time ago. A different way to advertise.

The NFL only allows players to wear Nike or Reebok shoes during games. So how is another shoe company supposed to make good on endorsements it has with football players? Simple, have them wear your shoes and pay the fine.

Basically Addidas just paid $10,000 for a whole lot of publicity.

Matt Leinart finally signed

The first-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals signed a six-year contract.Out of 255 players taken in this years NFL Draft, Leinhart was the last to agree to a contract. Financial terms were not disclosed, but you can be assured it was way too much. ESPN reported that the contract was worth a max of $50 million, yes, $50 million. When the 10th overall pick and the second quarterback taken is worth $50 million there is something out of whack. No wonder the average family can not afford to go to a football game.And how does the 10th pick get almost what the third pick got. Vince Young signed with the Tennessee Titans and received a six-year contract worth up to $58 million.

I guess Matt showed us, staying that extra year in college did pay off.

Clinton Portis dislocates shoulder

In the first preseason game of the year for the Washington Redskins, Clinton Portis dislocated his shoulder attempting a tackle on a Mark Brunell pass that had been intercepted.An MRI has already confirmed the injury and now it will be a waiting game to see how bad the injury is and how long the rehab will take.The Cincinnati Bengals went on to win the game.

Reggie Bush signs with Saints

Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush signed a six-year contract Saturday with the New Orleans Saints.The Saints announced this morning that he may not practice today, but should be in practice tomorrow, Tuesday August 1st. The Saints are holding their Training Camp at Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi.

It’s that time again. NFL Training Camps are up and running, draft picks are holding out. Old timers are trying to find that new team to help ignite their career one more time.The Top 10 from Draft day are certainly under the microscope, that is, if they showed up to Training Camp yet.

3. Tennessee – Vince Young, QB Texas
4. N.Y. Jets – D’Brickashaw Ferguson, OT Virginia

And of course my personal favorite this year is going to see how Terrell Owens does in Dallas. Being an old Cowboys fan this really hurts. It is going to be very hard to cheer for him no matter how good he does.

NFL – Race an issue

I really do not understand this. Why do people have to be racially motivated to stir up trouble. In an article on ESPN by Michael Smith, he says…

“And so the NFL’s diversity record remains six African-American coaches out of 32. A disappointing loss and an opportunity lost, for sure. But as can be the case with blowouts, minority coaches’ going one-for-nine (and counting) isn’t as bad as it looks.” Link – Race an issue, but networking is still the key

Why is this even a statement? If he checked the population records he would find that the African Amercian population stands at about 12% overall. 6 out of 32 coaches in the NFL equates to 18.75%, so, why is this bad ?

And although I have not found the numbers yet, I would guess that the player ratio for African Americans in the NFL is much higher than 18.75%.

This just bugs me. I am not and have never been considered a racist in any way, shape or form. I could care less what color a person’s skin is. Living in Mississippi I am familiar with the race issues, but why create problems where problems do not exist?

Texas 41 – USC 38

How sweet it is !! First college game I have watched in a long time. And well worth the time too. My wife made the comment that it looked like Texas was totally dependent on the play of Vince Young and that made her nervous. Well, true as it was, he came through in the clutch and won the game. Congratulations TEXAS !

USC is no doubt a great team, and this was a great game by all accounts. Matt Leinhart played a great game as did LenDale White & Reggie Bush. This game will certainly go down in history as a classic.

Back to Work

Finally back to work today. I have been off since last Wednseday, and I was ready to come back to work. Vacation and Holidays always sound great, but, after a few days I am always ready to get back to my regular schedule. I know, I must be sick or something. I really enjoy my work and look forward to each day in the office. Oh yeah, I have those days where I am tired of it, but, for the most part I really like it.

The NFL season is over and my beloved Dallas Cowboys missed the playoffs again. I guess I will watch the Rose Bowl and root for the Texas Longhorns and then patiently (yeah right) wait for the Nascar season to get started. Depending on the games I may even take in some of the NFL playoffs and SuperBowl.
