This is one crazy place to be. I have been here for almost 10 years and I still walk around wondering about it. I have lived in several states, mainly Texas and I have never felt like I understood Mississippi.
It is a beautiful place, and it has some of the nicest people in the world, but, it is really a crazy place to live.

Surgery sidelines Jackson mayor


The Clarion-Ledger, 11/20/8 Jackson Mayor Frank Melton is expected to be out of the office for the rest of the week, recovering from surgery. But officials are not saying much about why Melton was hospitalized at St. Dominic Hospital on Tuesday and underwent surgery the following morning. Melton has been in and out of the hospital with heart problems in recent years. City spokeswoman Goldia Revies wouldn't describe the surgery but said the procedure wasn't related to Melton's previou

Officer alleges Melton reprisal


The Clarion-Ledger, 11/19/8 A Jackson police officer who was transferred from his job riding a Segway scooter around downtown alleges his transfer to the night shift in west Jackson was Mayor Frank Melton's way of getting back at him for cooperating with federal investigators. Officer Robert Watts filed a notice Tuesday of intent to sue the city for alleged retaliation for talking to FBI agents about the mayor. He is seeking more than $250,000 for "mental anguish" and punitive damages.

The Clarion-Ledger, 11/16/8 The Jackson City Council will vote again on Mayor Frank Melton's proposed $2-per-hour raise for low-paid public works employees, and this time it could be approved. The proposal is back on the council's agenda for Tuesday, about a week after it died on a 3-3 vote. It needs four votes to be approved. Councilman Kenneth Stokes, who supports the plan, was not at the Nov. 10 meeting. He is sponsoring the revote on Tuesday, along with Councilman Frank Bluntson.
