Cheapest Gas Prices

It is amazing that 7 miles makes such a difference in gas prices. I drive about 8 miles to work, near my home the gas prices are almost always 15 cents or more above those near my office. The only thing I can attribute it to is that the stations with the lower prices are closer to the Interestate.
This morning the price was done to $3.36. Once again, I never thought I would be happy to pay that much for a gallon of gas. Here is a map link where the price is usually lower than most other stations in [...]

T. Boone Pickens

I will admit I have not researched everything T. Boone Pickens has planned for his energy solution, but I will say that just his initiative may be the kind of thing we need right now. When people start putting there own time and money into plans there is a lot more at stake.
We need to quit with the political rhetoric and get on with solving the real problems that face this country. And as long as we keep getting caught up in the political games, we are not going to get anywhere, fast. One thing I heard Pickens say, that [...]

Fuel Efficient Cars Used

That is the goal!
Currently I own 2 vehicles, a large family car and a pickup truck. I have always considered a pickup truck a necessity. Even if it is not driven daily, every man needs a pickup truck. However, with the price of fuel it is time to go back to a more fuel efficient car, and since I do not want any payments the only option is to find a good used fuel efficient car.
The car of choice for me is an old Volkswagen Beetle, the downside is that the Beetle was never a great car when it comes [...]

Fuel and Electricity Price Increases

The local news is reporting an increase in electricity prices in the neighborhood of 28%. I guess it is time to start doing something to help myself since it is obvious that we are going to continue to see prices rise.
Researching Solar Power can be a little depressing. The savings can be fantastic, but the startup costs can be pretty high which in tun makes the return on investment a long road. I have located a couple used panels and I am going to do some research and testing to see how hard it will be to do something that [...]

Why Are Gas Prices So High?

For the most part I think I am a pretty intelligent guy, and for the life of me I can not answer this question.
It is getting crazy. Friday our local gas prices went up about 5 cents. I filled up somewhere near the top of that price range, around $3.49 a gallon. And that price was still there on Saturday.
On the way to work today, just 2 days later, that same gas station had the price at $3.61 a gallon.
Now c’mon people, what is up with that. Really, what is causing the gas prices to go up 15 cents almost [...]

Speed Linking 10-06-2006

I am not up to date on the Mark Foley story, but, I am sick of hearing his name already. Why does the MSM continue to focus on everything that is negative in this world?
Google is on a roll. More like a massive snowball rolling downhill, they have released so many excellent systems over the last 6 months it is amazing. And they have gone back and updated a lot of the older systems. Just look at the list:

Gasoline Prices

I know I am in trouble now. I got excited about paying $2.43 for a gallon of gas yesterday. That is down from around $2.80 just a couple of weeks ago.
Did someone convince the oil companies that they had enough profits or are they just teasing us?
$2.43 is still ridiculous, but, I am glad to see a little relief. Now if gasoline prices would drop some more I could afford to go to the grocery store.

Exxon Profits ?

I will admit that I do not know much, but, I know that this gets under my skin. The people of this nation are being hit by the highest gas prices ever, and the big boys are raking in the profits. This is just wrong in so many ways. Even the sub headline spells it out.
“The oil company gains from soaring oil and gas prices, but falls short of estimates.”

CAN GEORGE BUSH DO BARACK OBAMA ONE FINAL FAVOUR ?

US President-elect Barack Obama (pictured above) was bracing himself for the first international crisis of his presidency last night after it was revealed that Iran has reportedly now produced enough nuclear material to make an atomic bomb. A new United Nations report shows Iran is rapidly increasing its stockpile of enriched uranium and is on pace to build a nuclear weapon by next year. Alarm over Iran’s nuclear ambitions grew with Britain accusing Tehran of evading questions over its suspec

LA Auto Show: 5 to Watch

Detroit’s top executives have other obligations this week, but in Los Angeles, the auto show must go on. In addition to electric-vehicle infrastructure initiatives, hybrid and all-electric vehicles figure large among more than 30 North American and world premieres at this year’s event, which opens to the public tomorrow. These five models stand out from the herd in terms of affordability, design — and likely time to market. Mini E: Early next year, BMW plan to lease 500 prototypes of these all

Capping Greenhouse Gases: Here's Why Not

Husband David has an op-ed in today's Washington Times as well as other papers on what a cap on greenhouse gas emissions would due to our economy. An excerpt: When our economic bus is teetering at the edge of a cliff, it's a bad time to throw on some extra weight. Yet government-mandated restrictions on carbon emissions would do precisely that, adding enormous additional weight to an economy already reeling. This additional weight shouldn't just be thrown from the bus -- it should be thrown un

New CCC project will focus on underserved communities

According to the CCC’s Director of Community and Programs Alison Hill Graves, the new project will start in early spring of next year and will seek to build “cu

Kevin Libin: Make Ottawa pay the obesity-tolerance toll

Sure, job losses are mounting across Canada. But thanks to the Supreme Court, dozens of new jobs were created today in the transportation sector. If you hurry, you might be lucky enough to become one of the transport industry's new obesity-evaluators. Rejecting an appeal by the country’s airlines, the nation’s highest justices today finalized the requirement that bus lines, train lines, ship lines and airlines must provide “morbidly obese” passengers, and those with certain handicaps, extra

I like the hard stuff

My favorite dealer Although, if gas prices settle in at around $4 a gallon, I might be persuaded to fire up the old ethanol unit in the backyard. For the sake of energy independence and national security, of course. Then again, I may get a new model.

If at first you don’t succeed, quit

Yahoo’s finance headlines always provide a good look at the panic of the last few weeks. Virtually buried in the “Oil at 3-year lows; gas below $2 in 23 states” was this hardly startling revelation: Also Goldman Sachs, which earlier this year predicted oil would reach $200 a barrel, said Wednesday that it was discontinuing its oil trading recommendations. Goldman said Wednesday in its weekly energy report said while continued weak demand and constrained credit would keep prices under pressure,

Green Jobs Training: Asheville GO!

“My neighborhood’s crazy.” Waylon said, “there’s drugs, alcohol, violence, stolen motor vehicles, robbing, getting into porno—we’re trying to do whatever. This program,” he said, referring to Asheville Green Opportunities or Asheville GO, “makes it not that hard. “And,” he said, “we get paid.” Waylon was introduced to Asheville GO after serving time in prison. When I visited the Burton Street Community Peace Garden, the eight corps members were winding down the work day. As Waylon sucked dow

Gas prices dive even lower

Just when you thought that gas prices couldn't go any lower, the gas war in Gig Harbor yielded an even lower posting. Both the Gig Harbor Costco and the ARCO on Olympic Drive were selling unleaded regular today for $1.79 a gallon. That's an astounding $2.55 a gallon less than the top summertime average price for regular in the Tacoma area. Analysts are expecting the price to bottom out soon and begin rising again as OPEC countries cut production. But then again what do analysts know? None

Take Heart Folks, the Dow will Not Drop Below Zero!

I just checked the latest reading on our index of doom, gloom, desperation, starvation, poverty, and privation, the Dow Jones Industrial Index and found it had only gone down a paltry 444 points today and isn't even below 7000 yet.  The Dow merely and faultlessly follows the dictum that what goes up will come down.  When it has gone down enough to frighten the whatever out of all of us, it will go up.  But take heart:  the Dow cannot go below zero.  It cannot become negative.  As the scriptures

Should we take this man seriously?

(Thanks to dakinkat at the Confluence for bringing this to our attention.) The ultra-dour predictions of Gerald Celente are of some personal importance to me, especially when he advises parents not to fund students majoring in Art History. As it happens, I've spent a goodly part of the last five years helping an Art History student work her way through the system, and it's too late to change course now. Way I see it, the rich will be with us always, they will always spend money on pitchas, and

Find Your Savings With FindSavings.com

As we get busier and busier, it just makes sense.    When doing your online shopping, take the time to do a little research and always keep your eyes open.  Sometime online stores will post promotions right on their site, but most of the time you will need to know where to look to find “cou

Will Black Friday Deals Be Good This Year?

When the economy stinks, sometimes you can count on stores lowering their prices in an effort to entice customers to part with some of their hard-earned cash. Business Week reports that sales figures are down everywhere. So on Friday November 28 – the day after Thanksgiving, aka "Black Friday" – stuff should be even cheaper than usual, right? Maybe not. According to Engadget, Walmart's deals are looking pretty lame, at least the so-called "doorbuster" early morning specials. Specifically, they

Bus ridership grows, but what about $2 gas?

Thanks in part to staggering prices at the fuel pump this summer, bus ridership in Corvallis has been on an upswing. In May, when gas was over $4 a gallon, ridership was up by 12 percent. Bus riders have increased each year since 2006 (as far back as the data I have shows), but in October, Corvallis Transit gave 72,374 rides. That’s 13,170 more than in October 2007. City transportation staff can’t really say if the increase is due to high fuel prices driving commuters to the bus stop, or if c

13 reasons to say NO to worry

On this Thursday, I have lots to be bothered about, things beyond me. But rather than worry about stuff I am going to try to come up with more than 13 reasons NOT to worry. More than Thirteen reasons not to worry  1 I know Jesus  2 Jesus knows me 3 I have a great family 4  I have a safe cozy home 5  I have a grandbaby on the way 6  Gas prices are down 7  Thanksgiving is 7 days away 8  I have friends 9  I have a kitten who comes running when he hears my voice 10  I live in th
