Fuel and Electricity Price Increases

The local news is reporting an increase in electricity prices in the neighborhood of 28%. I guess it is time to start doing something to help myself since it is obvious that we are going to continue to see prices rise.
Researching Solar Power can be a little depressing. The savings can be fantastic, but the startup costs can be pretty high which in tun makes the return on investment a long road. I have located a couple used panels and I am going to do some research and testing to see how hard it will be to do something that [...]

Why Are Gas Prices So High?

For the most part I think I am a pretty intelligent guy, and for the life of me I can not answer this question.
It is getting crazy. Friday our local gas prices went up about 5 cents. I filled up somewhere near the top of that price range, around $3.49 a gallon. And that price was still there on Saturday.
On the way to work today, just 2 days later, that same gas station had the price at $3.61 a gallon.
Now c’mon people, what is up with that. Really, what is causing the gas prices to go up 15 cents almost [...]

Gasoline Prices

I know I am in trouble now. I got excited about paying $2.43 for a gallon of gas yesterday. That is down from around $2.80 just a couple of weeks ago.
Did someone convince the oil companies that they had enough profits or are they just teasing us?
$2.43 is still ridiculous, but, I am glad to see a little relief. Now if gasoline prices would drop some more I could afford to go to the grocery store.

Propane and LPG Conversions

Seems the price (and maybe even the global warming factor) of gasoline and diesel fuel has folks thinking about converting their petrol and dino burners into something cleaner and less...

Photo Gallery: 2008 Lexus GS 450h Hybrid

Outrageous handling and power, plus a pretty lean gasoline appetite and squeaky clean emissions earned the Lexus GS 450h Hybrid our high praise. But beyond all that, it's gotta be...

Elasticity, Albuquerque Style

From my colleague Lloyd Jojola, further evidence that rising gasoline prices are changing behavior: ABQ Ride reported today that there were 1,000,126 passenger boardings in August 2008, the first time ridership has exceeded 1 million for a single month.

UofL ID is ticket to public transportation

Kevin Rayburn, an editor in the University of Louisville Office of Communications and Marketing, estimates that he has saved more than $5,000 in gasoline expenses since April 2006. His method is one that any UofL employee can use free of charge.

For Bicyclists, a Widening Patchwork World

From the Washington Post: For Bicyclists, a Widening Patchwork World - washingtonpost.com Antony Lo is one happy biker. He is 60 but looks younger, with a body buffed by commuting 130 miles a week on his bike. He is also president of Taiwan-based Giant, the world’s largest bicycle company, where sales are soaring, helped along by global anxiety over oil prices. With undisguised glee, Lo says: “High-priced gasoline is here to stay. I tell my people we are just at the beginning of a very big cyc

Alameda Family Kicks the Fossil Fuel Habit

Congratulations to my neighbor Eve Pearlman who is challenging herself to life without an automobile. Eve sends her kids to the same school as ours and I’ve ridden with her husband a few times on the morning commute (I ride a bike to the local BART station now). I have a pretty good sense of what they are going through living in Alameda, our leafy suburban island off the San Francisco bay, without a car and it’s not easy. The high cost of gasoline (around $4/gallon here) has changed many peopl
