Immigration - Break it down

This is big. And if we do not get it under control it could easily escalate to things we do not want. The biggest problem is that everyone wants a comprehensive solution after ignoring the problem for decades.
DON”T EAT THE ELEPHANT IN ONE BITE, Break it down.
Work on the border security issue first. If this is not priority #1 then all else will fail. Run the scenarios and think about it. If the solution from our government does not include massive deportation, more illegals will try to flood across. If we try to deport 11 million people they will just [...]

Post Election Hate Running Rampant

Last week, seven teenagers went out on a modern-day lynching because they had an urge “to beat up some Mexicans.” Marcello Lucero, an Ecuadorian immigrant, was killed in what Suffolk Police are calling a hate crime. He was murdered at the hands of a gang of seven high school students in Patchogue, New York, looking for Latinos to target, according to testimony they gave to the police after they were arrested. That was the subject of today’s conference call hosted by the Workplace Project, Long

Miami Mayor Manny Diaz says the talk about his prospects for a job in an Obama adminstration are just "rumors and speculation. "I have not received any formal communications from President-Elect Barack Obama's team regarding a position in his administration," he said in a statement to the Miami Herald. TTW Guest Post: Waukegan PL Space for Early Literacy

We just opened an amazing room for early literacy at the Waukegan Public Library. The impetuous for the room was a survey conducted by the United Way on Kindergarten Readiness in Spanish and English. Cut to the chase—the children of Waukegan are entering school unprepared, children are not doing well in school and several schools in Waukegan are on the No Child Left Behind watch list. Within 6 months we had architectural plans to put in a stimulating, engaging, room for preschoolers featurin

Slay, Coleman, Dooley all named to Missouri census committee

Gov. Matt Blunt today named a group of citizens to a committee that he established to raise awareness about the upcoming Census count in 2010. The count is significant for Missouri because early predictions show the state might lose a congressional seat and Census counts also affect some federal funding. Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder is heading the committee. Some key local members of the committee include St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay, Sen. Maida Coleman and St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley.

Association meetings in today’s economy

Well, the results of our survey on how the economy is affecting association meetings are in. Read ‘em and weep: When it comes to the fall of 2008, association meeting planners are reporting almost a 50/50 split: 46 percent who participated in a recent AM survey say their attendance held steady at meetings that took place since the financial markets began fishtailing in September, while 49 percent say their attendance was down 5 percent or more. And a lucky 5 percent actually saw some gains for

DISD trustees to decide on extended terms tonight

Dallas school trustees are scheduled to vote on whether to extend their terms from three years to four at tonight's board meeting, which begins at 5:30 p.m. at 3700 Ross Ave. The agenda item for the terms is no longer on the board's consent agenda -- and is its own separate issue -- so expect to hear from trustees on the matter. It's looking like the majority of trustees want to extend the terms -- but that doesn't mean they'll get to do so without hearing from trustee Carla Ranger who believes

Hispanics Respect The Law?

Hispanics Respect The Law? Posted by Jake Not content with weakening our national security through open borders and endless whining about the proper enforcement of our immigration laws Hispanics have now decided they have an extra special, nay, extra legal “right” to public intoxication… Booze Bust: SJ City Council Addresses High Arrest Rate Latino groups in San Jose put the police chief on the defensive Tuesday as they claimed they are being unfairly arrested for being drunk in public.

Just On The Radio…

John Sanchez, host of the radio program VHeadline News which provides news and commentary centered around Venezuelan politics and culture invited me to chat about the incoming Obama administration and what impact it will have on the Black and Hispanic communities both here and abroad. The program lasted for 1 hour. If I can locate a link to the program, I will post it here. From all the listeners from the show, welcome to the site.

Lockdown!

LA media outlets are all over this one. Basically, police were serving search and arrest warrants this morning when their targets slipped through the radar. As a result, four schools in Hacienda Heights are on lockdown, while cops from several agencies search for the pair -- identified as a man and a woman. Sounds like the cops are getting ready to go door to door in a neighborhood near Three Palms and Hacienda Blvd. I'll have a map later. Here's the top of our updated news story: HACIENDA

An Editorial Notebook: Impossible expectations of Obama

Barack and Michelle Obama on CBS' "60 Minutes" When a man or a woman shatters a racial, ethnic or gender barrier, the “pioneer” or “groundbreaker” or shatterer of “glass ceilings” inherits the weight of great expectations. The title “First Black This” or “First Woman That” or “First Hispanic Whatever” carries special demands — and surely much more so for the nation’s first African-American president. President-elect Barack Obama already faces what arguably are excessive and unreachable expect

By mistake. They thought he was an illegal immigrant, just another Hispanic. Actually Jordan is an American citizen. His parents were Native-American and Panamanian. Just a case of mistaken identity. SSM in DC

Openly gay Washington, D.C. Councilmember David Catania was recently overheard predicting a same-sex marriage bill will be introduced to the Council in January 2009, and that he is sure it will pass. If the City Council passes the measure it would likely be signed into law by DC Mayor Adrian Fenty. Mayor Fenty, a proponent of same-sex marriage, has long-supported equal access to marriage, calling such efforts "a question of fairness and equality." Still, there are concerns, from some, tha

Barack Hussein “Barry” Obama: A post-election analysis (Part 1 of 3)

Barack Hussein “Barry” Obama: A post-election analysis (Part 1 of 3) Maybe it’s time for me to take off the kid gloves again. Maybe it’s time for me to start going after the many mistakes that Barack Obama makes; mistakes which some in mainstream media (and also in alternative media) tend to be lenient about. The campaign is over now, so those of us who didn’t want to negatively impact on his chances for victory can return from that hiatus from objectivity. He won. I am quite perplexed by the

An Idea for SuperLiga

Lest you think I don’t do anything but complain about MLS, I thought I’d share with you a solution I heard yesterday for the SuperLiga/Champions League problem. I won’t take credit for the idea — it comes from a random e-mail read on World Soccer Daily — but I like it. A lot. This season, the same four teams (D.C., Houston, New England and Chivas USA) that went to SuperLiga also went to the CONCACAF Champions League. Let’s set it up so that doesn’t happen again. Columbus qualified for the Cha

Ode to a beermonger: Heileman’s Old Style beer distributor dead

"600 Words by Esther J. Cepeda" The man who made my father happy is dead. William P. Schirmang, the beer monger who popularized Heileman’s Old Style in Chicago – and in casa Cepeda – passed away November 13, according to the obituary in today’s Chicago Sun Times. Apparently, a decade before my mom and dad moved to Chicago, Old Style beer was virtually unheard of here. By the time I was old enough to be sent to the fridge to fetch a cold one, Schirmang had wheedled his beer out of his car tr
