Fun Stocking Stuffers

One of the fun things to do in the Christmas Shopping frenzy is to find Fun Stocking Stuffers.
It can be a little bit of a challenge depending on the person, but it is always fun to try and find small, inexpensive stocking stuffers. Of course, online shopping has made this a lot easier, but the real fun is shopping the old fashion way for these items.

20 lbs by Thanksgiving Day

That’s my goal. I am gonna lose 20 lbs by Thanksgiving Day. I started this week with a plan. Slim Fast for lunch, continue walking and eat less at night.
Now that the temperature has finally dropped a little and it is not 95 degrees at 7PM I think I can increase my distance to 3 miles from 2 miles.

Labor Day - Goodbye Summertime

Back to Work

Finally back to work today. I have been off since last Wednseday, and I was ready to come back to work. Vacation and Holidays always sound great, but, after a few days I am always ready to get back to my regular schedule. I know, I must be sick or something. I really enjoy my work and look forward to each day in the office. Oh yeah, I have those days where I am tired of it, but, for the most part I really like it.
The NFL season is over and my beloved Dallas Cowboys missed the playoffs again. [...]

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas. Of course anyone who knows me, knows what a scrooge I appear to be. I would say it’s not really Christmas that gets me, it’s what we’ve turned it into. Christmas was and is a celebration of the birth of Christ. Hence the spelling of CHRISTmas.
I always think of Christmas as a time to reflect on what I have to be thankful for, not, how many presents are under a tree.

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving. This is one of my favorite Holidays, although I am known as somewhat of a scrooge for most Holidays.
Thanksgiving is always a time of personal and family reflection, along with great food and football. This years trip to the in-laws will be a little hard for us. My father in-law passed away a month ago and this will be our first holiday without him.
I always look forward to the drive. In 18 years of marriage I have become spoiled on road trips. My wife likes to drive and let me just ride along playing on my laptop. [...]

What Are You Thankful For? (Cupcakes, Of Course)

Happy Columbus Day-slash-Canadian Thanksgiving! Normally, on federal holidays, I would be sleeping in until around noon then spending the rest of the day in my pajamas, eating leftovers from the weekend and generally avoiding anything that resembled “cleaning,” that is clearly not the case today.  My company swaps holidays; we work Columbus and Veteran Days but, in exchange, get the days after Thanksgiving and Christmas off as paid holidays. As it happens, my husband has today off.  And, conv

Can We Expect Another PS3 Price Drop For The Holidays?

Washington (dbTechno) - Though there has been no official word as of yet, many consumers are wondering if we are going to see a PS3 price drop this holiday season. The question has yet to be answered by Sony, but for the most part it is not likely. The Sony PS3 costs $400 for its cheapest, base model.  This is not very cheap by any means, and is much more expensive than the competition, the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii. The Nintendo Wii comes in at $249.99, while the base Xbox 360 comes in

As dire economic headlines go by, what goes through your head?

As dire economic headlines go by, what goes through your head? by Anne Tallent | October 13, 2008 at 8:00 am At Sunday’s news meeting, we started talking about an upcoming story on the economy – what we wanted to know and what was on our minds: Employment security. Recession-proof industries. Saving. Rent increases and the prospect of landlords being foreclosed on. Home buying. 401(k)s. Our parents’ retirement. Food and gas prices. The holidays. So, we wanted to know what was on your min

Bargain holidays gain popularity in economic slowdown

An unexpected boom is being seen in the coach holiday business, in hostel accommodations and cheaper holiday destinations, as UK travellers begin to realign their holiday plans with economic realities. The coach-based winter holidays firm, Skiweekends.com, reported last week that bookings for the coming winter season have increased by 150 per cent over that of last year. The operator has increased its capacity by 40 per cent, and will be running coach trips to two new destinations, the ski re

BIG Value in Big Lots

As the economy continues to struggle and discretionary spending tightens, consumers are pinching pennies and looking for any way to save a buck. Stock price run-ups in companies such as Wal-Mart Stores Inc. [WMT: 50.95, 0.00 (0.00%)] have proven this simple economic theory valid. Although investors tend to shy away from discretionary companies in economic downturns, one sub-sector that has remained strong through the storm is general merchandising stores. As of September 5, 2008, the S&P Ge

Inspiration

It's no secret that husband has mixed feeling regarding not only etsy, but my tatting in general. That said, he sometimes jumps into my world with both feet. He expressed an affection recently for my masks and attempted to get me to wear one to the Ren Faire last week, though I ultimately chickened out because I was afraid of the attention. I know, silly given that my hair is currently blue and purple and one can't help but notice me. Anyway, just this weekend as he was fawning over screen shots

Happy Columbus Day and welcome to the world of school holidays

The high points of my childhood are now the bane of my existence – School holidays. As a mom who works outside the home full-time, a day off is a fate worse than hell some days and I’m a lucky one. I work at a university in an office where I can bring the kid in and plop her down with crayons and homework. My partner’s office isn’t as fit for having a kindergartner hanging out for the day – It’s just too busy. When I do stop to grumble, like right now, I force myself to think about the moms a
