March Madness
So much for my March Madness bracket, thanks to Duke losing to West Virginia in the second round.
Growing up in Texas and now living in Mississippi I know there are a lot of quality southern teams I should be rooting for, but, I have been a Duke fan for 20 years now and it is hard to not pick them each year.

Howzit Foreign currency mid-rates updated... -o00o- As I read the articles on the internet as the day drew to a close yesterday, I saw that the MDC are considering pulling out of the power-sharing deal. Whilst I fully understand the indignation that they must feel as Mugabe goes it alone, I do believe that if the MDC were to withdraw, all it will do is give Mugabe more reason to carry on without Tsvangirai. Hence, I advise some serious caution be engaged before any decision is made... -o00
CTA's Response to Chinese Government Allegations
tibet.net 13 October 2008 Ever since peaceful protests erupted in Tibet, starting from 10 March, the Chinese government used the full force of its state media to fling a series of allegations against the "Dalai Clique". These allegations range from His Holiness the Dalai Lama masterminding the recent Tibet protest to His Holiness the Dalai Lama making attempts to restore feudalism in Tibet. This is the fifth and last in a series of response by the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) to these a
Don’t Panic!
Understanding how your investment transactions affect the market. I really didn’t think a post like this was necessary, but after speaking with two different people about portfolio management in these troubled economic times, I realized that the average investor doesn’t have a clue about what a mutual fund is and how it works. A Transfer is not Just a Transfer Conversation One went like this: Him: I’m thinking about transferring my Fidelity balances to bonds or t-bills. Me: Don’t sell when
Tsvangirai to quit following deal breakdown?
From The Guardian [UK]: Zimbabwe’s opposition leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, today threatened to pull out of a power-sharing deal after the country’s president, Robert Mugabe, unilaterally announced he had taken control of all major cabinet posts, including those responsible for the military and police. South Africa’s former president, Thabo Mbeki, is expected in Harare tomorrow to try and rescue the agreement he brokered, under which Tsvangirai is appointed prime minister and Mugabe remains pres

Lock (Henrik Bering, Policy Review) [B]urke was spot on with his predictions in his Reflections on the Revolution in France, published in November 1790, despite the fact that he had only visited the country briefly in 1773 to secure French lessons for his son. But he read everything available and had a steady stream of informants visiting him in his home at Beaconsfield. Most notably, he knew how to tune out the surface n
Hiding the Aspirin in the Applesauce. . .
Ask anyone who has ever worked in schools and they'll tell you that middle schoolers are an interesting breed. Trapped in developmental limbo and stumbling through three years of near misery, they drive everyone that they know crazy along the way. I love 'em to death, though! At no point in life outside of birth do kids go through as many changes---physically, socially or emotionally---as they do when they're in middle school. Being able to watch the hearts and minds of humans change in fr
Summer of Love: The Final Stretch
October 12, 2008 Well, folks, here we are. It’s been a long run, many games. Predictable victories hand in hand with upsets. A whole bunch of people won door prizes along the way, and truth be told there’s more to go yet, but I’m saving those to be handed out with the grand prize announcement. And now, we’re down to just two decks, competing to win the title and take home the crown. From the Orchid Division of the Corsage Conference, Kamiza’s Family of One stomped on Green Weakness, sank the

Obama in 2007: ACORN will shape my presidential agenda
Deepak Bhargava is a director of the Center for Community Change. Prior to joining the center, "Bhargava was the legislative director at the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), where he gained broad experience in community reinvestment and housing finance issues." Howzit Following Mugabe's actions yesterday, there is now no hope of any resolution in Zimbabwe. Mugabe has more than stolen the election, he has imposed his own cabinet on the people, following his sham one man election as President, after beating the Zimbabwean people into submission. What angers me, apart from Mugabe pulling this audacious coup (in my mind, it can be nothing more than a coup), is that the free world will watch what is going on in Zimbabwe, wring their hands and moan, an
Mugabe hands key ministries to ZANU-PF
HARARE (AFP) - Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe handed key ministries to his own party on Saturday, prompting an outraged opposition to warn that he may have jeopardised a four-week old power-sharing agreement. A government notice carried by the state-run Herald newspaper said the veteran leader had given his ZANU-PF party 14 ministries, including the defence, home, foreign affairs, justice, local government and media portfolios. Furthermore Mugabe — in power since Zimbabwe’s 1980 independenc
MDC rejects Mugabe’s list, releases own
By Our Correspondent HARARE - President Robert Mugabe has gazetted ministries that he arbitrarily allocated to the political parties that are signatories to the September 15 power-sharing agreement. The list of ministries allocated to Zanu-PF (14), the MDC (13) and the breakaway faction of the MDC led by Arthur Mutambara appeared in the government owned newspaper The Herald Saturday after it was gazetted on Friday. Mugabe provisionally allocated to Zanu-PF the Ministry of Finance, which is

The best rapper ever? Vibe readers think so. LOCALS ONLY Metropolitan State College of Denver’s radio station, MetRadio, has been around over a decade, and according to Colorado emcee D.O. it has barely featured any hip-hop. He’s looking to change that, by launching a hip-hop show called “Black Hollywood.” (The station is on frequency 91.7 FM, which can only be heard on the Auraria Campus and the station’s website.) “We’ve been on the air for about four weeks now,” says D.O., a student at
Sleeper Cell: ACORN, Obama, and the Housing Crisis
Cross-posted at No Quarter. (Image from Audacity of Hypocrisy) Before ACORN became a household name, Larry Johnson and Eastan McNeal reported that the Obama campaign has been funneling hundreds of thousands of dollars to a shady ACORN shell corporation called Citizens Services, Inc. New information, including the photo above, proves that Obama’s past denials of his relationship with ACORN are not the truth. According to the Leftist Dissent Magazine, the nebulous term, “community organiz
