The NASCAR Week That Was: Nov. 16-22

The first week after the 2008 season came to a close wasn’t short on news items.  We crowned Johnny Benson, Clint Bowyer, and Jimmie Johnson NASCAR champions.  Following Homestead on Sunday, many crew members didn’t survive the now infamous “Black Monday.”  Hall of Fame, Stewart-Haas, DEI, Wood Brothers, Yates, and Bill Davis were some of the teams that laid off employees.  With a sour economy, we also saw Furniture Row Racing buy out Joe Nemechek’s contract for 2009, and the team’s plans are u

Friday Tidbits - 11/21/08

John Lynch retired.  Drew Henson is back with the Lions on the practice squad.  Jim Fassel wants to coach the Raiders.  Good luck with that.  Philly and Cincy tied.  Green Bay pounded the Bears.  The Vikes lost to Tampa so all three teams are 5-5.  Denver is quietly 6-4 after beating Atlanta.  The Colts also improved to 6-4 after beating the Texans.  Peyton threw for 320 and Addai scored twice.  The Saints finally won on the road.  The Giants pounded Baltimore.  Sir Brandon Jacobs scored twic

Johnny Benson and Clint Bowyer each win first NASCAR national championship in a tight points battle despite not having a chase format.

As all three NASCAR national series seasons have come to a close at the triple header finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway last weekend, one question in particular comes to mind, does NASCAR really need to add a new unique chase format to either or both the Nationwide Series and the Truck Series? Before I get into each series and how it ended, in my opinion, the chase format in the Cup Series was started for two reasons, first as a result of Matt Kenseth in 2003 winning the championship with basi

Sprint Cup: So, Who’s on the Bubble Now?

Funny sometimes how fast things change. So fast at times it’s hardly worth calling oneself a Pundit, not that it ever is financially or otherwise, but still, making predictions can be so ego deflating. A case on point is Dustin Long’s latest. Long looks back at the year just past and makes 10 predictions for 2009. No sooner did I finish reading his prediction Matt Kenseth would be the odd man out at Roush-Fenway after 2009 as Jack cuts to the mandated 4 team limit I read this: “Roush Fenway R
