3 Estrogen - 1 Testosterone = Insanity

I am married with 2 teenage daughters. We have 2 female dogs and 2 female cats.
Is it any wonder I am a geek?
Oh yeah, there is one male Gerbil left, although we have not spent much time together.
Things that I can’t grasp.

Didn’t we just buy a 24 roll pack of …

So unfortunate...

New doctor. SOOOO hot. crap.   I can't stop myself from saying really stupid stuff around attractive successful men.  case in point: (Tonight at work, checking out a patient carol and I got to talking... New hot doc was standing around in the lobby with us) Carol (office receptionist): Calley, you don't watch football do you? Me: Of course I do, why? Carol: Oh the Chargers are playing the Raiders tonight. Me: Ewww, I hate the Raiders... oh wait you like them don't you? Carol: Yeah, t

Picking Your Musical Tribe

Suzanne Vega gets a little tribal in the NYTimes as she delves into her own ethnic and musical roots, and discovers that music helps brand as in very tribal ways. Her post, naturally, made me think of a cluster of sullen teens I recently saw walking through Carytown in their black boots, faded and tattered jeans, fitfully chopped hair and studded, black leather jackets -- emblazoned with Subhumans and Sex Pistols and Germs logos. It was very 1984, which is when my own sullen friends did the sam

Best Crime Movie in Ages

Add me to the chorus of people who are raving about THE LAST LULLABY, a terrific, l0w-budget indie crime movie directed by Jeffrey Goodman and starring Tom Sizemore as an insomniac hitman on his last assignment. It's based the novel THE LAST QUARRY by Max Alan Collins, who co-wrote the script with Peter Biegen.  It's not another in one in a seemingly endless spew of pop-culture-referencing, amped-up, martial-arts, dizzyingly-edited action montages masquarading as movies. This is the real deal,

Beloved

So far, I must say I really enjoy this novel. It is a big step up from the Stranger and Heart of Darkness, but it is a little creepy and I feel there are parts that could be excluded from the book. For example, what is the purpose of the author including the part about how the slaves "fucked" cows? Or why did it have to include the part about when the two white men sucked the breast milk out of the mothers breasts? I just don't think these parts are necessary and they just are plain creepy. I a

'Ugly Betty' and Bad Amanda share more than ramen

Sticking with Ugly Betty's snotty characters usually pays off because they eventually expose a bit of sympathetic humanity. Tonight was Amanda's turn. Spoilers brought to you by Bad Ronald. Amanda isn't the worst roommate ever (that award would go to my friends' roommate who practiced bulimia in the shared shower), but she's no prize. Besides treating Betty like a servant, wearing her clothes, and blaming the missing food on the mythical Bad Ronald, she doesn't even bother paying rent. This

Micheal Moore on the Congress and the Auto Bailout

What a long, sad fall from grace we witnessed on November 19th when the three blind mice had their knuckles slapped and then were sent back home to write an essay called, "Why You Should Give Me Billions of Dollars of Free Cash." They were also asked if they would work for a dollar a year. Take that! What a big, brave Congress they are! Requesting indentured servitude from (still) three of the most powerful men in the world. This from a spineless body that won't dare stand up to a disgraced pre

Iran Bans "Satanic" Clothes

Via Hot Air. Poor Iran, their fragile theocratic dictatorship is threatened by Western haircuts, neckties, human rights, female athletes on TV, Barbie, and now ... SATANIC CLOTHING! It really is a miracle that they've lasted this long. Police have arrested 49 people this week in a northern Iranian city during a crackdown on "satanic" clothes, IRNA news agency reported on Thursday. The measures are the latest in a country-wide campaign against Western cultural influence in the Islamic Repub

Is JJ Indecisive, Tardy, Scared, or Crazy?

The entry list for the Medibank International Sydney tourney is out (unfortunately, sans video) and there is one notable name missing: JJ. The Glitter Queen had originally assured the tournament that she would be playing, but for whatever reason she hasn't committed to the tournament: Organisers issued a statement on Wednesday saying Jankovic had revealed she was still finalising her playing schedule for the start of 2009 and she would not appear on the official acceptance list to be announced

Italy's Northern League Seeks a ban on Mosques, Response to Recent Terror Arrests.....

Terror beehives.... Anti-immigration Northern League Party of Italian Interior Minister Roberto Maroni is seeking a moratorium on the building of mosques as a preventative measure to future terrorist attacks. The demand for blocking mosque building comes as a reaction to the recent arrest of two men suspected for planning attacks in Milan, Italy's northern financial hub. La Stampa, a local Italian newspaper quoted Maroni on Thursday stating that "Islamist terrorism" runs deep in Italy

Looking ahead

Coming at you Friday: • Deja vu in the rear view: The House Financial Services Committee holds a repeat hearing on how Detroit's auto leaders plan to stabilize their industry with $34 billion in taxpayer funds. • More bad economic data on the way. The Labor Department delivers the unemployment figures for November and the Federal Reserve updates consumer credit for October. • Neel Kashkari, the Treasury's man behind the TARP, delivers an update on the big bank bailout and comments on the sta

OK, so at least we'll install the car seat this weekend.

HOOOOOO BOY, did the comments on that last post give me a chuckle. Trust me when I say that above all else, they were helpful. I had not thought about something as simple as just making a list and placing it somewhere near the bag, for instance. I have said before that I am not much of an outside-the-box thinker, so to someone like me, “packing a bag” means… well, PACKING A BAG. As in, I believed I should have prepared a fully packed suitcase with everything I could possibly need and want ready

I sabotaged myself

I think Michael Jackson said it best when he said, "They’re out to get you, better leave while you can." God, I wanted that job. I fought hard for that job. I put myself through a lot emotionally and physically for that job. Ultimately, watching the show last night was really hard. I waited nervously all day for it to air because I knew it was my night to go. I knew I yelled at Dyshaun, and last night I was reminded of why. Dyshaun came up with the nickname “Chlamydia” for me in week 4. He s

Thomas Hobbes (1588-1679) on the State of Nature

OF THE NATURALL CONDITION OF MANKIND, AS CONCERNING THEIR FELICITY, AND MISERY Nature hath made men so equall, in the faculties of body, and mind; as that though there bee found one man sometimes manifestly stronger in body, or of quicker mind then another; yet when all is reckoned together, the difference between man, and man, is not so considerable, as that one man can thereupon claim to himselfe any benefit, to which another may not pretend, as well as he. For as to the strength of body, t

Gump4Heisman’s Guide to Surviving “The Great Procession”

A Handy Guide on How to Keep Your Job in a Post-Saban Era We’re all worried. You have to worry about the Dow Jones, you have to worry about the economy, and now you have to worry about 5’7” workaholics getting you fired. In September 2007, Nick Saban coached his first game at Alabama. Flash forward 15 months, and nearly half the coaches in the SEC (5) have been fired. Ah, “The Process.” As far as SEC fanbases go, loved by one, hated by many. What has happened to all these men? W

Feds to use BS rule against Blackwater

WASHINGTON – Blackwater Worldwide guards involved in the deadly 2007 Baghdad shooting of Iraqi civilians could face mandatory 30-year prison sentences under an aggressive anti-drug law being considered as the Justice Department readies indictments, people close to the case said. Charges could be announced as early as Monday for the shooting, which left 17 civilians dead and strained U.S. relations with the fledgling Iraqi government. Prosecutors have been reviewing a draft indictment and consi

Feel The American Pride, Pt. II

Conservative dogma states that private enterprise and contractors accomplish basic services more efficiently and professionally than nasty ol' big government. This happens through crackerjack tactics like holding workers like slaves in windowless warehouses.Najlaa International Catering Services, a subcontractor to KBR, an engineering, construction and services company, hired the men, who're from India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. On Tuesday, they staged a march outside their compound to p
