Television Writer Strike and DVD Rentals
I wonder how much the Television Writers Strike has impacted the DVD Rental market. I know we have kept the people at Netflix going double time compared to previously when there was at least a little bit of good television to watch.
I guess the same holds true for Internet video. I wonder if YouTube traffic has increased significantly over the last several weeks?

NXE Review
So put yourself in Microsoft’s shoes. How do you make an already great video game system better? How do you take what is already the hands down best on-line service for video game consoles, and improve on it? Simple. You offer to try and fix the few complaints people had about the current dashboard and main menu layout . You offer a complete overhaul of the dashboard appearance and design. You offer around 13,000 movie titles that you can stream instantly at a very low cost. You offer the
Xbox 360’s Lack Of Sony Pictures Films Streaming On Netflix “Unrelated” To Competition
You probably recall that two days ago, when the new Xbox Experience launched, sadly, about 300 Sony Pictures films were unavailable for Netflix Watch Instantly on NXE, thus quashing your hopes of streaming The Karate Kid series. At the time, it seemed possible that missing titles were due to the fact that Xbox 360 manufacturer Microsoft and Sony are direct competitors. Well, according to a Sony spokesperson, the problem isn’t specific to the Xbox, nor is their beef competition-related in any wa

Netflix Working on Closed Captioning for Streaming
I get e-mails about the lack of closed captioning for Netflix streaming, and Netflix's Chief Product Officer Neil Hunt says that they're working on it: Subtitles, Closed Captions, and Alternate Soundtracks: All these features are desired for future releases. Delivering closed-captions via the Silverlight player is probably closest, but it won't be 2008 either.
Are You Changing Plans or Leaving Netflix Because of the Economy?
Debbie from Wesabe is breaking up with Netflix because of the economy: It’s a crappy time to be a discretionary spend and I don’t mean to kick you while you’re down, but I need to start looking out for myself. And so 163 rentals and nearly a thousand dollars later, I’m calling it quits. This really is good-bye, so I hope you don’t cheapen what we had by sending me perky “one month free” emails or flyers. Are you increasing your plan, decreasing your plan, or leaving Netflix because of the econ
DRM Still Sucks
Engadget HD reports that Apple customers are now experiencing problems playing movies on some monitors and TVs that aren't HDCP-compliant. Some Netflix customers have experienced a similar HDCP problem with Netflix streaming, all because the studios are worried that pirates will be able to make a copy of the movie, and yet it's easy to rip DVD & Blu-ray movies. No matter what the studios use to protect content, it's typically only a few days before the pirates are able to break it. I'm havin
Stream Live TV Video to Your iPhone with Orb 2.0.6
Orb 2.0 went live in the App Store. Up to now, Orb was only possible on jailbroken phones, but somehow, Apple has approved the application for everyday use. Then now, Orb comes to the iTunes AppStore. This app lets TV junkies watch live TV from a tuner connected to a Windows PC, as well as stream music, videos, and photos from their libraries. Orb 2.0 is available from the iTunes Apps Store in two versions: A free limited lite edition and a $9.99 full version. Sadly, Orb 2.0 only runs on Window
Twilight: Tell us what you think of the movie
Twilight is the eagerly anticipated film based on the best-seller about a girl who falls (desperately, of course) in love with a handsome teenage vampire. Times-Union film critic Matt Soergal writes in his review that “the film works because it’s so refreshingly matter-of-fact about its fantastical story. It doesn’t hurt either that it’s romantic, smart, likable and often quite funny, without any tacked-on snarkiness or desperate hipness.” 1) Seen Twilight? Yes, I’ve already seen it. No,
Sony needs to unite to beat Xbox 360

It’s a Recession, Everybody Broke
It’s a Recession, Everybody Broke posted by UBETARUN on November 21st, 2008 We all are having to count our pennies, but gamerz are really being hit hard. With new games going for $60 a pop, how can we keep up? My advise is for gamerz to take advantage of a video game rental program. There are two of which I can vouch for: Gamefly and Blockbuster Game Pass. They both function is similar ways: pay a fee for unlimited rentals for a month, one out at a time. Gamefly operates in a similar mann
Anna Kendrick Cast in Jason Reitman’s Up in the Air
Anna Kendrick has been cast as the female lead in Jason Reitman’s adaptation of Walter Kirn’s novel Up in The Air. Kendrick scored the role after nailing a set of auditions which was said to involve nearly every young actress in Hollywood, including Ellen Page and Emily Blunt. Kendrick has a small role in Twilight, but don’t let that scare you away. I remember her from a wonderful coming of age film called Rocket Science, which I saw a couple years ago at Sundance. Anna played a fast talking
Enough!
Ok. I know I’m the “token” idiot of the Bloglin, and I may be a bit far behind on most Internet funnies/current events/whatever. When the hell did this come out? It’s a remake of one of the best gore flicks of the 1970’s called “Wizard of Gore“. Seriously? Why ruin such a great cult flick? The sad thing is, most people probably will/have seen this movie and are completely unaware of the original. If you haven’t seen Wizard of Gore, put it up on your Netflix queue and prepare to be enthral
Sony needs to unite to beat Xbox 360
Sony needs to unite to beat Xbox 360 With the launch of Microsoft’s New Xbox Experience (NXE), a brand new service provided via Netflix is available. However, it looks like Sony is adding a new wrinkle to Microsoft’s plan by preventing all Sony distributed movie titles from being accessed on the Xbox 360. Sony may have finally smartened up and learned how to use its assets like the movie and MMO business, to its advantage.
Pardon me for not being a critic but the New XBOX Experience is fucking awesome and coupled with the Netflix integration I am one exquisitely happy camper.

The Incredible Crazy Heart of “Zohan”
I usually don’t go into slapstick comedy flicks, so I’m not quite sure why “Zohan” made its way onto my Netflix queue, but it did, and it was here when I got home, so I threw it into the DVD player, and it surprised me. Although it starts out pretty ridiculously slap-sticky, it develops well enough into a parable about the American dream and putting aside cultural differences to create a better world (also: the importance of knowing how to apply the Vulcan neck pinch). Also: George Takei’s ca
