Daddy Wants a Squeezebox !
I know, you probably remember it like this…
Mama’s got a squeeze box
She wears on her chest
And when Daddy comes home
He never gets no rest
credit : The Who - 1976
Well, this is the new version
Daddy wants a squeeze box
He can listen anywhere
While sitting on the deck
Or lounging in his chair
This has …
Listening to Music
Yeah I know, I have been missing for a month. Just got busy with all kinds of little projects and sleeping. I know I am getting older, I like a good nap and sometimes I can just crash out before 8pm and sleep all the way through the night. Of …
Austrialia, pioneer in lead regulations, setting for lawsuit against lead mine
As we remember from the Rhode Island lead paint trial II, it was a city in Austrialia which enacted one of the first if not the first regulation on the use of lead paint where children are. Now, Austrialia is the setting for a lawsuit by a family against a mining company et al. The allegation is the defendants are liabile for the family's lead injuries. James Cordrey reports in the December edition of MEALEY'S LEAD REPORT, that in "Sidney William Brody v. Mt. Isa Mines Ltd., et al." the Brod
Listening to Christmas music on Pandora right now.
We're revamping Christmas this year. Normally we don't do much Christmas related stuff in December, then fly to my parents for Christmas, where the children rip through wrapping paper like Tasmanian Devils. The trouble is, come March they can't remember a single present they received. So I'm on a quest to make Christmas more memorable. I started off the season in my usual stellar fashion by completely forgetting that Advent started last Sunday. Oops. Yeah, and I can't find our wreath, and hav
Seth Godin on radio's future
Mark Ramsey has posted audio (and partial transcript) of an interview with marketing maven Seth Godin, on the future of radio. This is an update to a previous interview. These three nuggets sloshed out of my pan: "So if you’re an advertiser and you have a choice between reaching a ton of people who couldn’t care less, and so you have to talk really fast, yell, and make obscene promises on the radio to get them to show up at your dealership, or reach a smaller group of people about something th
Un-Adventy
As I noted on my Facebook page a few days ago, I feel most un-Adventy this year -- even after reading an essay by an Orthodox priest suggesting that Advent is a good time for depressives to enter into their feelings of sadness and emptiness, mourn their losses, gain some perspective through charity and service, and otherwise prepare themselves for the joy of Christmas. That sounds very reasonable and therapeutic. Meanwhile, I started assembling my Advent wreath (late, because of our trip) only to

Music Sales Forecasts Might Be Silly
Forrester has new predictions about the future of music. Apparently, 41 percent of music sales will be digital by 2013. As previous studies have shown, the increase in digital sales will not make up for the ongoing decline in CD sales, and so as a result, the music market will shrink at a compound annual growth rate of 0.8, dropping to $9.8 billion in 2013. Sales in 2008, by comparison, are expected to total $10.2 billion. A book I'm reading has made me wary about such predictions. Nassim Ni
MacBooks Are the New Pandora's Box... AGAIN!
In September, I mentioned the straight-to-DVD release of Pulse 2, noting that its summary contained the laughable line, "The world has been reshaped by the invasion of ghosts via the wireless internet." That's an extremely stupid concept, but, shockingly, not stupid enough to warrant ending the series. I got this email today: Are you ready for the most terrorizing digital invasion to date? Prepare yourself for PULSE 3... Seven years after the last attack by the “soulless ghosts” who haunted the
Bipolar Bulls have plenty of work to do
Game Time: Sixers 103, Bulls 95 OT Over the course of this too long and too sloppy game, viewers had a chance to see the Bulls at their best and at their worst. THE GOOD BULLS When they moved the ball, ran cutters through the paint and around weak-side screens and attacked the hoop, their offense operated at maximum efficiency. Late in the second quarter, the Bulls recovered from a 13-point opening quarter and got back into the game by rebounding and running. Their doubling of the posted

WMExperts on the iPhone 3G: Full Round Robin Review
As I said a couple of times in my first look at the iPhone 3G that we're all pretty familiar with the basics of the iPhone: how it looks, how it works. You can check out TiPb's hardware review and software review if you're looking for a general overview. More to point, the changes since last year's Smartphone Round Robin aren't necessarily the sorts of changes that are worth pointing out in our regular Smartphone Round Robin way. Apple has kept the basic UI of the iPhone unchanged and haven't
Yahoo Cedes Music Webcasting to CBS
Yahoo's Launchcast streaming radio service, once considered one of the titans in the streaming music space, will be skuttled in favor of a back-end streaming service provided by CBS starting early next year, the company announced today. As part of the deal, CBS will provide Yahoo Launch with music to stream, sell all of the service's ads and -- crucially -- pay all royalties associated with the 150 or so Launchcast channels, according to the Associated Press. Meanwhile, Yahoo's role in its ow
3 Historical Food Fights
By Chris Connolly Any group of malcontents can dress up like American Indians and toss tea into a harbor to protest unfair taxation. But how many armies have actually mobilized over food? Real food—as in, “Leggo my Eggo … or I’ll send in the troops!” The answer? Not that many. Nevertheless, here are a few of history’s greatest culinary-based conflicts. First Course: The Bovine Brouhaha Grab a fork and a knife (and a rifle, if you’ve got one). First up on the menu is The Grattan Massacre, a

Facebook Nears 2 Million iPhone Downloads
This morning iTunes published a list of the top applications for 2008 and coming in second place was Facebook. The first place winner was Pandora who reported this morning that they hit their two millionth iPhone user yesterday afternoon. Considering that Facebook is following close behind, I can only assume that the application has attracted close to 2 million downloads. This is approximately the number of active Blackberry application users as reported by the Facebook for Blackberry applic

TiVo aren’t the only ones getting a streaming HD update: Samsung have released a firmware upgrade for their BD-P2500 and BD-P2550 Blu-ray players that enables high-definition streaming from on-demand partner Netflix. Version 2.1 also “improves playback compatibility” of some content. Samsung had promised the update back in November; currently there are around 300 titles in HD available to view. Aside from Netflix, the two Blu-ray players have HQV video processing, 7.1 analog outputs, Dolb
Pandora Hits 2 Million iPhone Users

Jax Holiday Trax
I am a big fan of holiday music. The only problem is that the vast majority of it sucks. So I have been working on a Pandora channel for holiday music that doesn’t suck. To me, that means it is at least a little jazzy and not very poppy. Stuff that makes me feel good, but doesn’t bore me to tears. I like a little dissonance. If that sounds good then check out Jax Holiday Trax. You can help me raise $200 in November to fight prostate cancer
