How to clear a room of teenagers
I have 2 teenagers, both girls. It seems there is always a guest in our house. It may be just one additional kid, or a whole house full, but, I am going to start taking their pictures and hanging them on the wall so I can remember who they are.

Time Sure Flies!
Parents: Just another reminder that we will be attending The Nutcracker live presentation at the Cobb Civic Center on Monday, December 8th. ALL STUDENTS SHOULD WEAR THEIR BLACK CLASS T-SHIRTS. We will leave at 11:00 a.m., after a sack lunch in our room, and will return at approximately 1:45. I regret to inform you that we will be unable to have our planned holiday performance. Our curriculum this year allows little time for extra curricular activities such as this. It was planned for D
In Defense of Korean Mother(-In-Law)s
About a month after my brother got married, I saw a side of my mother I had never seen before. It started with my brother and his new wife's second visit to our house after returning from their honeymoon. During the visit, everything seemed fine. We hung out, had dinner with the requisite fruit and coffee afterwards, and watched a little tv. Then my brother and his wife left with bags full of leftovers and other dishes my mother made especially for the newlyweds. But after they left, the grumbl
Survey For Parents - Participate in Net Day Speak Up!
Please participate in Net Day Speak Up! Cobb County School District has committed to having at least 10% of our students and teachers take the online survey. Because we will have access to our aggregated school and district data, this is a great opportunity for students, teachers, and parents to join in a local and national dialog about significant and timely issues impacting education today. The survey may be accessed until Dec. 19 at http://www.cobbk12.org/instructionaltechnology/speakup/sp
Listening to Christmas music on Pandora right now.
We're revamping Christmas this year. Normally we don't do much Christmas related stuff in December, then fly to my parents for Christmas, where the children rip through wrapping paper like Tasmanian Devils. The trouble is, come March they can't remember a single present they received. So I'm on a quest to make Christmas more memorable. I started off the season in my usual stellar fashion by completely forgetting that Advent started last Sunday. Oops. Yeah, and I can't find our wreath, and hav
You Ask, I Answer: 'Privileged,' 'One Tree Hill,' 'House' & More
Today: Privileged, One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl & House... Hey Korbi, I really appreciate your Privileged stuff. Thanks for watching the show and giving me an extra fix. I'm a big Will-Megan fan. What should we call them? Mill? Wegan? What's coming up for them? -Ali I think Mill or Wegan works. But if someone's got a better suggestion, weigh in in the comments section... What's coming up? Well, let's see. I'm hearing rumors of sister Lily's return, and word is, she and Will will be locking
Knut turns 2, and it might be his last birthday at Berlin Zoo
Knut, the Berlin Zoo's superstar polar bear (and cash cow), marks his second birthday tomorrow. It might be his last in the German capital. Now fully grown and weighing nearly 450 pounds, Knut is outgrowing his enclosure and approaching the age when certain animal urges need fulfilling. He lives in a small part of the grotto, which also houses his parents (Lars and Tosca) and two older female bears. Zookeepers say they can’t afford to build new living quarters, and it's time to find him a mat
Are we (still) a Judeo-Christian Country?
There has been a tremendous swing away from organized religion in the United States, with adults professing they are Christian dropping about a percent per year since 1990. This is following a trend set in Europe where Christianity is rapidly fading into a non-factor in both cultural and religious arenas. The fastest growing religion in the US is apparently Wicca, which is an “Earth based neopagan” view of life that is doubling every 30 months. While Wiccans comprise only approximately 134,0
Obama's birth certificate; you can't keep a good conspiracy theorist down
by Jay McDonough Did you know the Apollo 11 moon landings were faked by NASA? Did you know 9/11 attacks were orchestrated by the U.S. government? Did you know the government manages Area 51, where alien spacecraft and its occupants are being studied? Well, maybe you don't but many do. The believers are quite certain and absolutely dedicated to convincing the rest of us that moon landings and 9/11 were nothing more than big shams and that the rest of us are soooooo naive to believe otherw

If you wish to donate to the fund, please have checks sent payable to the "Petrucelli Family Fund" as follows: Petrucelli Family Fund Attn: Megan Wallace Wallace Law, LLC 11300 Rockville Pike Suite 405 Rockville, Maryland 20852 (Phone number is 301-468-0603) You can also contact me directly if you are looking for additional way
Who's the daddy?
Leon Rose, father of Shannon Matthews The airwaves and cyberspace are awash with the name of Karen Matthews, the woman who almost sold her daughter for a mess of pottage or a reward of £50,000 ... The verdict is out: Karen Matthews is guilty (oh, and so is Michael Donovan). My daughter and I have just watched Shannon: The Mother of All Lies, a special edition of the BBC's flagship documentary programme, Panorama. A programme guaranteed to bring any mother-daughter tensions to the surf
Cheerleaders "Accidentally" Distribute Nude Photos
Parents of two Bothell High School cheerleaders have sued the Northshore School District, alleging school officials erred when they suspended the girls from the team this year after nude photos of them circulated throughout the student body via text message. One of the photos was taken three years ago, according to court documents. Showing the girl topless, it was sent to her then-boyfriend's phone in the summer of 2005. Later that summer, the picture accidentally was distributed to other B
Pinellas middle school principal under investigation; replacement takes over immediately
Maureen Thornton, the fourth-year principal at John Hopkins Middle School in St. Petersburg, has been removed from her position and placed on administrative leave with pay, school district officials said this afternoon. The district's Office of Professional Standards is conducting an internal investigation of Thornton (left) but would not release details. Thornton was in the news in February when her estranged husband, Charles Lee "Cookie" Thornton, was killed after he went on a shooting spre
Northwest schools parents can sound off in a district survey
The Northwest school district wants to know what parents think. Log onto the district's Web site and fill out a survey to tell administrators how the district is meeting student needs. Results will help officials make future plans. The online Parent Survey is being launched today and will be up through Dec. 19. The survey is in English and also in Spanish. Jessamy Brown
3rd Grade News - 12/4
My goodness, but this day flew by! We were able to start the day with a brainteaser which we followed up with our festive brunch. Thank you to all the parents who donated goodies. They were all a big success! The hi-light of my day was listening to the students present their 1st person creative stories. I was cracking up at the originality and personality that was reflected in the writing. I have kept them for their Target Portfolio. We ended the day with a Disney video on Huck Finn and
Christmas Traditions
I guess because I just wrote a bit about this for the Savvy Source Philadelphia blog, I've been thinking about my holiday traditions, and the ones I want to share with my daughter. This makes me think about the traditions I grew up with and what my favorite memories of Christmas are. My most intense memories are of my maternal grandparent's house. They lived far, far away from us in St. Joseph, Illinois (we were in Albuquerque when I was little). So the first memory comes from the long, long d
It's the most germy time of year
Most parents have indulged their kid in a little bit 'o Chuck E. Cheese frivolity. Who can resist that giant mouse and a room full of blinking, blipping, beeping, noisy games designed to take the edge off kids who are buzzing around on a Chuck E. Cheese-induced high? Come on, you know you're up for a little Skee Ball and those silly prizes you get with a fistful of tickets. It's always been fairly good fun for our family...granted the pizza is horrid and we always end up spending too much on t
U.S. appeals court rules Holy Land Foundation should stand trial for aiding terrorists
Another blow was dealt yesterday to the, now defunct, largest Islamic charity in the United States, the Holy Land Foundation (HLF). In another case, last month all five defendants were found guilty in the Holy Land Foundation terror funding trial in Dallas. Yesterday, a federal appeals court ruled HLF should stand trial in the case of a young Jewish man who was killed in Israel: "The Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development should stand trial in a case accusing the organization of a
Cheated by 'Religulous,' He Wonders, Why the Double Standard in U.S. Culture for Israel?
A few weeks back I ran a friend's review of "Religulous" that pointed out Bill Maher's double-standard for Christian evangelicals and Jews. A man who just saw the film--"Rand Meko"--found that review online, and sent me the following note:I felt cheated by Religulous. I thought a number of groups not only got off free, but there was a very distinct melding of specific politics and religion - something Bill Maher seemed to be vehemently against. I appreciated you opening up the discussion. It s
Christmastime is Here!
By far, this is my favorite time of year! Christmastime! We have been busy decking the halls this week and getting ready for a Christmas party that we are hosting here on Saturday night. I'm trying to get the menu finalized and get it mostly done tomorrow so that come Saturday, I won't be running around crazy! While we were in Nashville at Mike's parents' for Thanksgiving, we drove up to my sister's on Friday so we could visit with them. One of my sister's favorite shops was havi
