Do It Yourself
I am a big fan of Do It Yourself projects. In a typical week I can work on so many different things it can get confusing. Going from home repairs to car repairs to all kinds of miscellaneous projects. But I love it. I guess part of it is my …
Fuel Efficient Cars Used
That is the goal!
Currently I own 2 vehicles, a large family car and a pickup truck. I have always considered a pickup truck a necessity. Even if it is not driven daily, every man needs a pickup truck. However, with the price of fuel it is time to go back …
Department of Environmental Irony
by David Safier I was playing tennis this morning at Fort Lowell this morning, well away from the street. I noticed a heavy smell of car exhaust wafting over the court and looked over at the parking lot. A large government vehicle -- enclosed, about twice the size of a pickup -- was sitting there, idling. Five minutes later, the vehicle was still there, still idling, still sending exhaust fumes onto the court. One of the players went over and asked the driver, who was sitting in the cab, if
Died on a ride, #18 2008
We lost another cyclist today, struck by a pickup truck in Woolwich Township here in Waterloo Region. Melvin Martin, 34, of Woolwich, was struck about 6:40 a.m. and pronounced dead at the scene. He had a light and reflectors on his bike, say police, but wasn't wearing a helmet, not that a helmet would have done him much good based on the way the bike frame was twisted. Martin was hit pretty hard. Police say that Martin was riding on the travelled portion of the road when he was hit. As is
Subprime Motorcycle Crisis?
I was talking to a friend last night and he told me a very funny, yet scary story. He was up in Buffalo a little while ago to see a Bills game. He was tailgating prior to the game and he noticed that at one of the parties next to his a guy had a really nice Harley Davidson motorcycle. My friend walked over and said, "Hey, that's some bike you've got there. I don't know much about motorcycles but that looks pretty expensive." The guy says, "Yeah, this model runs about $25,000. Harley gives
Man taps 9-year old son as designated driver
Joshua James Fagan ran out of adult beverages last week and asked a designated driver to take him on a beer run, according to the Fort Myers News-Press. Which normally would have been a prudent thing to do -- except the 27-year old Cape Coral man's designated driver of choice was his 9-year old son, police said. Police stopped Fagan's white Dodge Ram pickup truck after seeing it leave the road and drive up onto the median. Fagan told them he was teaching his son to drive. "Fagan’s speech was
Dashcam video shows officers rescuing man from burning pickup
A Fort Worth man was in jail Wednesday night after leading police on a chase through a north Fort Worth neighborhood Sunday that ended in him being rescued from his burning truck by the officers who were chasing him. Video released by police today shows officers dragging Greenwood from his burning pickup. Police said the man, 41-year-old Russell Greenwood (right), was involved in a domestic disturbance at a home a few miles from the where the chase ended. They were called to the home, an
Ford to push up F-150 production at Claycomo
While the rest of the news out of the auto industry is all doom and gloom, it looks like Ford has found an unexpected bright spot. The Associated Press is reporting that the automaker plans to ramp up production of its F-150 pickup trucks at its Claycomo assembly plant. Angie Kozleski, a Ford spokeswoman, told the AP that Ford will add a second shift to the production of F-150s during the week of Jan. 12. This is surprising considering Ford on Tuesday said light truck sales for its namesake

Driver sought in deadly truck-pedestrian crash on Portland Avenue
Pierce County sheriff's investigators are looking for the driver of a pickup truck after a deadly accident Monday night on Portland Avenue. William Baumann, 70, was struck by the truck as he crossed the street in the 7400 block of Portland Avenue about 7 p.m. Monday, sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said today. Paramedics took Baumann to the hospital for treatment. He died early Tuesday, Troyer said. The driver of the green pickup truck stopped briefly and initially was directing traffic, accor
Man drives pickup truck onto hood of ex-wife's car
The woman and two teenagers were inside the vehicle at the time; the guy seems pretty pleased by it all, judging by his mugshot. (KTVL.com)
From the Drafts File
I have over 200 incomplete posts in my drafts folder. Yikes. And that’s just here, at the Wordpress site, where I’ve been for less than a year. Lord knows how many drafts are sitting over at Typepad. I dare not look. In an effort to clear this cache out a bit, here’s a look at some things I was going to write about but didn’t get around to finishing. *** Swell Stocking-Stuffer for Your Music-Loving Hubby Or for any lover of contemporary music, really. Doesn’t have to be your husband. Your s

by Troy Headrick (A Mule alumni, Mr. Headrick shines with this essay.) Of all the teachers I’ve had in my life (and I’ve had my fair share) I count my grandfather, Jacob Franklin Hausenfluck, as one of the most influential. Half the things I know today can be traced back to one or another of “Pawpaw’s” lessons. It was he who first taught me—very early in life I might add—what it feels like to be behind the steering wheel. In fact, he had me puttering around in his ‘65 Chevy pickup before a
Review: 2009 Ford F-250 Super Duty 4×4
Thanks to soaring gas prices (remember them?), cliff face depreciation, chronic over-production and a withering economy, the majority of the “my-truck’s-an-extension-of-my-huge-ass-belt-buckle” crowd have flown fly the (turkey) coop. We can safely assume that both remaining pickup truck buyers have bona fide big-truck needs: towing, hauling and posing getting dirty. Yes, Virginia, some people really do "need" nearly five tons of truck. If that's you, it’s hard not to wish for an F-250 Super Duty

THE WORST CHRISTMAS TREE IN ENGLAND
This is definitely a bad tree. But it's not as bad as the one Mrs. Blog and I bought some years ago when we waited until Christmas Eve to go looking for one. All the tree places were sold out. We ended up buying ours from a man selling trees from the back of his pickup truck in the parking lot of (this is true) a strip bar. It was so scrawny that we weren't certain it had ever actually been a living organism (I'm talking about the tree) (but also the man).
Chrysler sales plummet in November; Dodge still strong brand
Chrysler sales plummet in November; Dodge still strong brand December 3rd, 2008 by Bill Cawthon Chrysler sales plunged 47.1 percent in November as tight credit and consumer concerns about the economy took a toll on the entire industry. Compounding the matter was buyer uncertainty about the future of Chrysler and the other American automakers. In its loan request to Congress, General Motors cited a study by CNW Marketing Research that showed more than 30 percent of consumers who considered a
Car Sales, Behind The Dismal Numbers
Like every other automaker, Kia sales for November 2008 plunged. However, with incentives of $5000 on its mid-size sport/utility vehicle, Kia managed to see sales increase on that model for the month. Another Miserable Month For U.S. Car Sales Yesterday, I kept finding myself going to the various sites where I check car sales information, in a bid to find out just how bad sales were for November 2008. Not much surprised me although Chrysler’s 47% drop for the month is a bit hard to fathom. W
Quantum of Annoyance–When Product Placement Goes Horribly Wrong
My wife and I watched the new James Bond film Quantum of Solace a week or so ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. As you might guess from my frequent references to Bond, I am a fan of the franchise–and while I occasionally miss the humor and campiness of the Roger Moore movies, I overwhelmingly approve of the franchise reboot. The series badly needed more realistic villains and a darker, more dangerous Bond, and the last two movies have delivered. As good as Quantum of Solace was, though, all of i
