Flags of our Fathers

I tried to watch this movie last night. I fell asleep.
I am sure the meaning of everything going on was too deep for me, but the movie just moved way to slow and jumped around too much to keep my interest.
I did watch and enjoy Man of the Year. Robin Williams is still going strong after all these years and the beginning of the movie really struck a chord with me.

Review: Robin #180

Review: Robin #180 November 20th, 2008--by Stephen Schleicher Robin go boom-boom I haven’t been reading my Bat-titles as faithfully as I have in the past.  Instead of the top of the stack, the Bat-family has been relegated to the “I’ll get to you in a moment” pile.  You know who I blame for this, and it isn’t Paul Dini, Fabian Nicieza, Freddie Williams II, Peter Tomasi, or Tony Bedard.  I decided to give Robin a chance this week, moving the title to the top of the pile for a couple of reaso

Random Comics of the Week: Robin and Deadpool

Miles' Book Robin #180 Written by Fabian Nicieza Art by Freddie Williams II DC Comics, 2008 I've talked about my love of Tim Drake's Robin before. Somewhere in my mother's house resides the first 18 or so issues of Robin. Now, 160 or so issues later, it's hard to see that kid I loved so much. This isn't a horrible comic. It shows Tim in the role he should have, as a junior detective, using his smarts rather than his fists to solve problems — though he still uses his fists a lot on this issue. I

The Best of Times

Just about everyone has seen "The Birdcage" with Robin Williams and Nathan Lane. A lot of people have seen the original movie, "La Cage aux Folles". Even fewer have saw, or have heard the Jerry Herman soundtrack to the Broadway hit version of it from the mid-1980s -- I'm willing to bet a lot of people who love "The Birdcage" don't even know it was on Broadway as a musical. Hands up, anyone out there who's ever worked a live stage production of it. Anybody? No? Just me? ;) I just now ran into my

Shrimpin' Ain't Easy

So, Pepe wrote a book. He took one of his seventeen tiny little hands, held an even tinier littler pencil, and jotted down his most personal inner thoughts. Of course, this isn't true (Spoiler: He's a puppet). Jim Lewis gets the "As Told To" credit on the title page, although this is his only mention, as his name doesn't appear on the cover and he doesn't get an "About the Author" blurb. Poor Jim Lewis. But I guess it serves him right, since he keeps letting Muppets tell him things. Let me sta

New Night At The Museum pics!

NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM was a phenomenal family comedy that hit theaters in 2006. I knew a sequel would be on the way, but they have truly blown me away with the amount of recruited talent they have for the film (Jonah Hill, Amy Adams, Bill Hader, Owen Wilson, Robin Williams, Ricky Gervais, Steve Coogan, Dick Van Dyke, Eugene Levy, and of course Ben Stiller). Is it possible to pack too many funny people into one film… this film will provide an answer. Anyways, click keep reading to see a bunch of

Moose has the credentials for the HOF

The official announcement of Mike Mussina’s retirement is rekindling the argument about whether he belongs in the Hall of Fame. I think it’s a close call, but I would certainly give Moose the plaque. Although wins are a poor way to judge a pitcher due to the variances of run support and bullpen production, winning 20 in his last year may help him garner enough Hall of Fame votes when his eligibility roles around. No pitcher with 270 wins and a lifetime W/L differential of over 100 has been den

Leftovers...

-Sundance has launched a website for Elvis Costello's show, Spectacle The actual website doesn't have pock marks and black rimmed glasses, but it's good nonetheless. -Robin Williams is out and about performing comedy instead of getting getting his back waxed. -Myspace debuted the new Guns N' Roses Chinese Democracy album, and it's...meh, but that reminded me of the 1992 MTV Music awards when the Axl Rose/Kurt Cobain feud started. Check out this article that bassist Krist Novoselic (Nirvana

Marley And Me gets a rare PG (and other MPAA ratings tidbits)

Box Office Mojo posted their weekly MPAA rating updates yesterday. Not much to report. Two noteworthy items do pop out, though. The big news involves Marley & Me. The Jennifer Aniston/Owen Wilson romantic dramedy, that revolves around a troubled marriage and a dog, has acquired a PG (thematic material, some suggestive content and language). The only thing more rare than a live-action non-kid’s flick getting a G is a live-action non-kid’s flick getting a PG. Really, I can’t even remember th

Comedy Review: Robin Williams - Weapons of Self Destruction tour

Robin Williams delivers an amazing night full of belly laughs and enjoyment in his current tour. They say things get better with age and having had the pleasure to attend the Ottawa, Canada portion of Robin Williams current tour – Weapons of Self Destruction I know that statement is true.I have been a long time Robin Williams fan and have CD’s (and DVD’s) of every major tour he has done, some of them are upgrades from VHS...

New Batch of Photos from Ben Stiller's Night at the Museum 2

One of the few movies I'm not looking forward to next summer is Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian, the sequel to Ben Stiller's holiday comedy from 2006. Alas, there are plenty of fans of the first film, so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt this time (at least until we get a trailer). USA Today has our first look at a new batch of photos from the film, most of which include Stiller and/or one of the many comedic faces that appear in the sequel. They're expanding the fantastic

Awakenings

Remember the movie Awakenings with Robert DeNiro and Robin Williams?  It was about folks who had been catatonic for years, and when a doctor switched up their drugs, they all woke up, at least for a time. Welcome to the Winter Hawks version of that movie.  From 15 goals in three games last week to three goals in three games this week. *Sigh* Share and Enjoy:

More social housing? No thanks, says Labour Mayor

Interesting conference yesterday hosted by the Notting Hill Housing Association at City Hall. (No they didn't charge a fee for me to go.) The theme was "communities that work" - the problem of estates where most residents are on welfare. A range of councillors, council officers, housing association reps, property developers, academics, Quango reps and assorted other specialists were there. With a range of views. There was certainly no lazy consensus that social housing was a good thing and the

CSFF: Shade by John Olson

This week the Christian Science Fiction Fantasy tour is featuring Shade by John Olson. I honestly forgot about this tour. It was a crazy weekend, and this week hasn't let up yet. I haven't read Shade, but based on John Olson's other writing, I plan to. From the back cover: "You will not fear the terror of the night." —Psalm 91 A monstrous waking nightmare is pursuing graduate student Hailey Maniates across San Francisco to Golden Gate Park where she is rescued by a towering homeless man.
