Fun Stocking Stuffers

One of the fun things to do in the Christmas Shopping frenzy is to find Fun Stocking Stuffers.
It can be a little bit of a challenge depending on the person, but it is always fun to try and find small, inexpensive stocking stuffers. Of course, online shopping has made this …

Well, the holiday season...

in full swing. I went to the first holiday party of the season for me, what a wild bunch of women that was! Beta girls know how to put on a white elephant exchange! The country club manager and a few curious staff peeked into the room at one point just to see what all the screeching and cackling was about. "I'm charging $50 to let people come in her!" he said. Whoops, were we disturbing the other members? Too Bad, no admittance without an ugly gift, and Kelly, your gift needs to be back at the

Dec. 4th

Today's 12 days Christmas Swap gifts are so YUMMILICOUS!!!  wish you could smell the wonderful soap and candle from Cris Cunningham http://www.enchantedheartsstudio.blogspot.com/  Thanks again Cris.  Cris also has a wonderful Christmas blog.... http://www.anenchantedchristmas.blogspot.com/     I spent some time cleaning, shopping and doing a little knitting and didn't really finish anything to share.  I did get an order in the mail from Linda Koch.  She was having a WONDERFUL 20% sale so I s

A lot of Linky Love Today

In the last couple of days, I've been out & about online trying to play a quick game of catch up, in between everything else I'm doing here.  It's been fun so I want to share some of what I found.  First, did you know that Bernie Berlin of A Place to Bark Animal Rescue is running a charity auction on Ebay, with all the proceeds going to help build a new kennel for her animal rescue effort.  The auction consists of artwork that a lot of us donated to Bernie to help her raise funds for the re

Last Day

Today was my last class of the semester. It took two trips to my car to load all of the papers and portfolios I have to grade, but I didn't even mind. When I taught high school, I was so happy when the end of the year came. Knowing I had an entire summer to be free of certain students was a wonderful feeling. Today I felt kind of sad. I'm going to miss these kids. Teaching at a University where you are given complete academic freedom is entirely different than teaching high school.  The cla

User Error?

I haven't been able to login to my typepad account here to blog for the past 4 days. I figured it must be something that I was doing wrong, since my friend Karen was able to put up not just one but two posts yesterday. I knew it couldn't be typepad. It must be me. This evening I tried to log on, and oddly enough there was a new log in page... So maybe it wasn't me. Who knows. Regardless, I apologize for being so behind on my posting. For a quick update, we had a lovely Thanksgiving. I hosted he

Holidays on a modern budget

Let's be honest, nearly all of us are finding ourselves on a tight budget these days. Jobs are being cut. Pennies are pinched. Billfolds are thin. Merry Christmas! But before we spiral into a outright depression over our holiday shopping lists, lets all take a collective breath. You can still do it up right. Need a nice hostess gift, or something sweet for a sister or coworker? Grab a modern serving platter, drizzle chocolate, place a festive cake on top, and presto -- an affordable, thoughtf

My last listing for now.

I listed a new grouping of angels on etsy today.  This may be the last of them I am offering for awhile.  I am going out of town next week and won't be making anymore right away.  So this is your last chance....you still have plenty of time to get one of these little angelic cuties before Christmas.  They are just the right size for a stocking stuffer, too. I also listed some vintage optical lenses in my supply shop.  You can really do so much with these.  I have already drilled a hole in th

Will You Sign My Book?

Happy Thursday from Jeanette. I hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Last time I shared about finding creative ways to give books as Christmas gifts that double as support for your author friends. This week I rediscovered a great source to help you do that. Check out Signed by the Author (www.signedbytheauthor.com), the site where every book that you order is autographed. Many CAN authors are represented including Virginia Smith, Judy Gann, Tracy Higley, Sharon Hinck, and Karen

OK, so at least we'll install the car seat this weekend.

HOOOOOO BOY, did the comments on that last post give me a chuckle. Trust me when I say that above all else, they were helpful. I had not thought about something as simple as just making a list and placing it somewhere near the bag, for instance. I have said before that I am not much of an outside-the-box thinker, so to someone like me, “packing a bag” means… well, PACKING A BAG. As in, I believed I should have prepared a fully packed suitcase with everything I could possibly need and want ready

For a show after shopping or to impress your guests, read on

The next three weeks are peak theater-going time in Chicago. And it’s possible that you’ll have guests in town. So although we bring you a list of recommended shows every Friday, we thought we’d suspend our usual deep thoughts this week and try and offer some guidance for the festive season. As I always prefer to do, I’m sticking to shows I’ve seen this year: What is the best musical in town—and can I get a ticket? I like both “Jersey Boys” (ideal for adults of a certain age) and “Wicked” (

New Port Richey motorcyclist dies in crash

NEW PORT RICHEY -- A woman turning out of a shopping center onto State Road 54 Thursday afternoon struck and killed a motorcyclist, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The 66-year-old man has been identified as Allen Robert Hall of New Port Richey. An FHP report said Marsha Goslin Itro, 66, of New Port Richey was driving a 1995 Honda sedan, leaving the Bealls shopping center just west of Rowan Road about 3:40 p.m. She pulled into the path of the westbound motorcycle, which struck the left side o

From Bangkok to Honkers, Spencil 612's world tour continues

Spencil 612 writes: I managed to get out of Bangkok. Hong Kong harbour is spectacular. Star Ferries were fun and enjoyed shopping along Nathan Rd. Bye for now, Spencil 612. Previous installment here.

How do you shop?

It's intrigueing how different people shop and plan out the day-to-day (or maybe that is just me??) :) I was thinking about this yesterday as I realised how different the way I shop now is from how people would have done it even 10 years ago. We order about 90% of our food online; with a weekly delivery of organic vegetables and a delivery of the other groceries (flour, tins, frozen things) about once every couple of months. We just did one of our grocery shops. How I do it is to gather all t

OUCH! & Events

So, yeah, after the excitement of Sonoran Living the next day I get this.... My poor car! Got hit in the booty! I got a dented booty! hee hee! Thank goodness the guy that hit me has insurance or I wouldn't be so casual about this. Spent a few hours in the ER just making sure that my back and neck were ok because boy, I was in some pain! Everything checked out ok, thank goodness. I saw the guy coming too fast behind and just knew I was gonna get it! Traffic stopped suddenly in front of me and

Thursday’s Freebies

Hi gals, this morning I went to IKEA with a girl-friend from work. And what was the reason we went? They sent us a coupon for a free shopping bag. So we drove 15.5 miles one way to get a shopping bag worth 79 cents and were fully aware of it too :-)  Templates:   http://ellielash.com/ctblog/ http://ditterstemplates.blogspot.com/ http://jbzwick.blogspot.com/ Quickpages: http://www.scrapartist.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=104760 http://brittishdesigns.blogspot.com/ http://scrapsang

Quick Hello

Well, I'm still not finished with my shower project yet.....BUT Almost! :-) I installed the glass blocks and found that to be not as difficult as I had thought. Hubby helped me build a small wall next to the glass blocks for support and now I can also attach a shower rod. I had to tile all sides of this new little wall, which took a bit of time. I'm just finishing up the floor, so I should be able to share pics soon. I took a little break away from my construction projects for the holiday and o

Back Tack 4 and a Christmas Meme

Here's a little teaser for my Back Tack 4 partner.... And here's a little meme I saw at Elise's blog.  I need a touch of holiday spirit, so here I go.  Consider yourself tagged and leave a comment if you play along! 1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Wrapping paper. I like to use brown kraft paper and pretty bows or baker's string. 2. Real tree or Artificial? Real trees are the most festive, but after an incident in the late 1990s or so when a ginormous tree nearly sent me to the hospital (I had
