March Madness

So much for my March Madness bracket, thanks to Duke losing to West Virginia in the second round.
Growing up in Texas and now living in Mississippi I know there are a lot of quality southern teams I should be rooting for, but, I have been a Duke fan for 20 years now and it is hard to not pick them each year.

Immigration - Break it down

This is big. And if we do not get it under control it could easily escalate to things we do not want. The biggest problem is that everyone wants a comprehensive solution after ignoring the problem for decades.
DON”T EAT THE ELEPHANT IN ONE BITE, Break it down.
Work on the border security issue first. If this is not priority #1 then all else will fail. Run the scenarios and think about it. If the solution from our government does not include massive deportation, more illegals will try to flood across. If we try to deport 11 million people they will just [...]

Immigration Debate

I have stayed clear of this issue so far, but, it is getting increasingly harder to do. I grew up as a Military brat, this means that I learned to live and share with people from all corners of this country.
Most of my youth was spent in the San Antonio, Texas area. Both my children where born in Victoria, Texas. I now reside in Jackson, Mississippi. I have spent most of my life in areas that are made up of a large portion of the American minority population.
This article by Herbert Meyer hits the nail on the head. No American [...]

The Broad Prize for being anti-union.

I just noticed that four of the five contenders for this year’s Broad Prize for Urban Education are from either Texas or Florida. While the award goes to school districts, I think this is another indication that state context matters. And what do these two have in common, besides a “former Governor Bush”? First, a longstanding testing

It just doesn't work.

It just doesn't work. It's a palm pilot, Texas Instruments, and it has been plugged in for a while, and it's used, but it doesn't work.

Do You Work on E. Coli?

If so, you should check out EcoliWiki, which you might find a useful resource, and you might even find yourself compelled to contribute some of your knowledge to it. Since I'm already blogging about E. coli today, I thought I would also bring up an interesting project I found out about earlier this week. I'm currently wrapping up a short visit to my alma mater, Texas A&M University, and while there, I've met up with two local science bloggers that I know of: Matt Springer of Built on Facts
