Traffic Control
I think we need to work on Traffic Control on our roadways in this country.
Everyone who drives should be required to read a book like this!
If the states would tighten up a little on giving out a drivers license maybe we could all save ourselves some grief and Auto Insurance Premiums.
Maybe we should require all the traffic control products out there to be loaded with some kind of powder that sprays your vehicle when you hit them, that way we can spot a bad driver easily.
Yeah, it was that kind of drive to work this morning !
If you’re new here, [...]

Traffic Lights need to change
Traffic Lights really need a change. Based on this article, Traffic Light History - Invention of the Traffic Light , traffic lights have been basically the same since the first one was installed back in 1920. Now it’s time for a change.
Take out the Yellow, really. It would take a lot of work, but it would be worth it.
Yellow has come to represent “hurry before the light changes”, or “go ahead and get in the middle of the intersection before it turns red”, and both of these are poor choices.
There is a traffic light on the way home that [...]

Air Traffic Computer Woes and Long Travel Delays
Yesterdays major outage at one of two FAA facilities that processes flight plans is yet another example of an air traffic control system that has aged beyond its useful life. Yes, the FAA promises to replace that particular decades-old system soon. But merely replacing componentswhile necessary in the short termmisses the point. Todays ATC system is built on a 1950s paradigm or concept of operations. Because it is so imprecise, it must create huge buffer space around each plane, wasting
700 Days Without a Contract
One of the great things about the GNB community is all the ideas you all share in the comment threads and in emailing me (us). My recent focus/obsession with the plight of airlines, pilots and air traffic controllers, lead one reader to send me an amazing set of links to blogs written by Controllers and I also found some by pilots. The reader asked, "Why doesn't the progressive b'sphere ever tune into the frequency of any of the excellent air traffic controller blogs?" Why indeed? I think it
Air controller “talks” down airplane with SMS text messages
Talk about flying blind. The Irish Times is reporting that an air-traffic controller used SMS text messages to help an instrument-less pilot land safely. When a twin-engined Piper aircraft lost power to all its avionics systems (electrical power, communications and weather radar) in a “serious incident,” the pilot used his mobile phone to call a nearby airport’s air traffic control center to inform them of his complete electronics blackout. The pilot was flying without any instruments when he
To the Highest Bidder
I am sure it will surprise you to know that there is a scheme a foot to auction off the runway take off and landing spots at high traffic airports like JFK in New York. And of course it will surprise you even more to know that George Bush and Co. are behind the new plan. Apparently this new competitive runway plan has to do with busy flight schedules but even more it has to do with having not enough air traffic control staff. The Bush administration’s decision to impose caps on flights at the
Controllers Have Cure for Energy Crisis
HAMPTON, GA, August 5, 2008 -- A group of the world’s most preeminent air traffic controllers, while sitting on the picnic tables under the pavilion at the Atlanta Air Route Traffic Control Center, came up with the solution to America’s crippling energy crisis. Local president, Calvin Phillips, reading from his notes written on the back of a grievance form told the crowd, “If the oil companies hadn’t allowed the pipeline technology to become so outdated there would be no energy crisis. The Al
