Wade Phillips Tag Page

Football questions this week.

1.) Can the Colts offense get past the Bears defense?
2.) Can the Bears offense get past themselves?
3.) Is Norv Turner the next Dallas Cowboys Head Coach?
4.) Did Jerry Jones really consider Wade Phillips as a possible candidate?

Baucham and the SBC: More Patriocentric Spin

It just came to my attention that Voddie Baucham, Vision Forum favorite, has associated me with a chain of causality in the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) that does not cast him in such a favorable light. From Baucham's The SBC and Calvinism: This, coupled with the release of Family Driven Faith, and planting Grace Family Baptist Church, set off a chain of SBC events that would culminate in the SBTC Youth Ministry Forum, and (some would argue) the recent “Patriarchy” rant at xxxxxxxxx Semin

Jerry Jones accepts blame for Jivin' at Joule Gone Wrong, praises Pacman Jones' compliance in NFL program

Adam "Pacman" Jones' problems were solved during his trip to Boston, but they apparently weren't alcohol related. Jerry Jones took care of the issue by canning Pacman's security patrol. "Yes, i do take responsibility for the fact that is was my own security that the issue was a part of," Jerry said, though he stressed that he was not throwing bodyguard/babysitter/bathroom brawler Tommy Jones "under the bus." Jerry, who once labeled the possibility of suspending Pacman as ridiculous before rev

Felix Jones should be fine in six months

As much as it hurt, it wasn't a tough decision for the Cowboys to schedule season-ending surgery for RB Felix Jones. Even if Jones toughed it out with a torn ligament under his left big toe, he wouldn't have had the explosiveness that makes him a big-play threat. The potential for long-term problems with the toe made it an easy decision to send the rookie to the operating room. Jones is expected to make a full recovery after getting the surgery done, which will happen Saturday in Charlotte, ac

Four things I wonder about the Adam Jones' situation:

**Do you think the NFL liked that Jerry Jones was the person who said Adam Jones was reinstated? The league's comments so far have been "no comment," and later, "when there is a final determination, we will announce it." So I wonder if a "final determination" has been made by the league. **I'm not one who usually gets caught up in team chemistry. I think that's an overrated thing brought up by the media and fans. Good teams can have bad chemistry and still win because they're good. Bad teams

Felix Jones bothered by toe injury

During the bye week, Felix Jones suffered a toe injury while rehabbing from his torn hamstring that could keep the rookie running back out even longer, according to multiple sources. Jones practiced in a limited fashion Wednesday for the first time in a month it doesn't mean he is close to playing. Coach Wade Phillips did not sound optimistic the rookie running back would play Sunday against San Francisco but he and owner and general manager Jerry Jones would not disclose the nature the newes

Week 12 NFL Injury Report “From a Chick”

Should Cowboys rely on Adam 'Pacman' Jones?

Nobody questions whether Adam "Pacman" Jones has the talent to help the Cowboys win. Statistically speaking, he's been their most effective cornerback this season. That doesn't necessarily mean it's wise to rely on Pacman now that he's reinstated. Based on his track record, odds are he'll find trouble again. Should the Cowboys coaches cross their fingers and hope that Pacman can make it through this season? Terence Newman's return to Pro Bowl form eased concerns about depth at cornerback. Fif

Doesn't sound like Felix is coming back this week

Fans better hold off on their excitement of seeing Felix Jones back in action Sunday vs. the 49ers. Despite returning to practice Wednesday for the first time since his Oct. 12 injury, Jones may be on the shelf for a little while longer. Jones suffered a partial left hamstring tear and other injury problems (not his knee) have developed that the athletic trainers are working on. He was limited in practice and head coach Wade Phillips didn't sound too confident he would be back this week. Hold

Do you shut Felix Jones down?

Felix Jones' hamstring is healed. Now he has another undisclosed problem. With six games remaining, do you shut Jones down for the rest of the season? It's a difficult decision because the Cowboys need Jones' speed on special teams and on offense. Looking at the big picture here you don't want to rush him back and risk getting him hurt again. If Pacman Jones comes back from suspension you have a player who can return kicks, though he was below average on punt returns when he was here. Felix

Wade Phillips puts wet blanket on Felix Jones' return

Felix Jones was limited during today's practice, and Wade Phillips said it's premature to think that the rookie RB will play Sunday. "We'll just see," Phillips said. "I don't know. I didn't get a good feel that he would or wouldn't." Phillips said Jones' hamstring isn't the only issue. There are some "other things that came up during his rehab, but we're working on those, too." Phillips acknowledged that it's possible that Jones could be held out of the next two games to make sure he's compl

Felix Jones returns to the practice field

The long-awaited return of the Cowboys' home-run hitting rookie is happening as I type. Felix Jones is practicing today for the first time since partially tearing his hamstring in the Oct. 12 loss to the Cardinals. We'll get more from Wade Phillips this afternoon, but this is obviously a great sign that Jones will play Sunday against San Francisco. That means the Dallas' primary big-play threat would have two games to chip off the rust before the Cowboys really need him during a tough four-gam

Kill Kill Kill Interlude: Wade Phillips Blowed Up Real Good

It’s another one of those trademark KSK mornings where we simply don’t have our shit together. But fear not. The drunken writing monkeybot is busy scribbling out new dick joke ideas as we speak. In the meantime, LOOK! Wade Phillips done blowed up on a Taiwan street! He blowed up good! Yeah, REAL GOOD! “More than 100 Tainan city residents, mostly men, have reportedly gone to see the corpse to ‘experience’ the size of its penis,” the newspaper reported. Those Asian men. Always with the penis

There’s A Bright Future In “Big D”.

I was talking with a friend yesterday about the recent Cowboys victory over Washington and found myself suddenly aware of the many contributions that are currently being made by Dallas’ newest and youngest players.  For example, prior to his injury, Felix Jones was nothing less than spectacular in his abilities to run and catch as well as his kick return skills.  But he isn’t the only bright new face to join the team this season. With some very successful drafting, Jerry Jones has insured his

Enter The Young — The Kids Lead the Cowboys

And now I come to praise Wade Phillips. On Saturday, I urged him to go with the rookies, especially rookie CBs Mike Jenkins and Orlando Scandrick. Phillips and his staff went much farther than that. Last night the Cowboys promoted Jenkins, Scandrick, Miles Austin, Kevin Burnett and Martellus Bennett, and all of them made a difference in the 14-10 win over Washington. Scandrick started the game playing the slot in Dallas’ dime sets and got a lot of work, as Jim Zorn used a lot of three

Instant Analysis — Cowboys Staggered Early, Redskins Stomped Late

Dallas had two fourth quarter drives tonight. The first was an 8 play, 67 yarder that put the Cowboys in the lead. The last was a sustained gut punch — thirteen plays, 46 yards that bled the final 6:40 off the clock and gave the Cowboys a hard fought 14-10 win. The game showed the value of the long-lost Cowboys. Kyle Kosier’s return gave Dallas an inside push they’ve lacked for weeks. Marion Barber began the game running a series of tosses left and right around the Redskins and then ripped

How often should Terence Newman shadow opponents' top WR?

Wade Phillips gave Terence Newman the assignment of shadowing the opponent's top receiver for the first time Sunday night. Newman responded by shutting down Redskins star/Cowboys killer Santana Moss. So Newman should follow the foe's No. 1 WR on a regular basis, right? Not necessarily. It doesn't make sense to have Newman follow around a receiver who isn't elite. Pittsburgh's Hines Ward and New York's Plaxico Burress are the only receivers in that category remaining on the Cowboys' schedule -

Breaking it down, defense (sort of)

FOURTH-DOWN STOP: Terence Newman deserves a ton of credit for breaking up the pass from Jason Campbell to Santana Moss. Even if it had been completed I don't think Moss turns up the field and gets the first down. But what really made the play was the outside pressure by DeMarcus Ware and Greg Ellis, who seemed to meet at the quarterback, and the inside pressure by Bradie James. With James closing, Campbell had to make an off-balance throw to his right with his momentum going to the left.
